It’s semi-finals time.

And our proceedings
start off with the aerial antics of Rocket Ball. Wolf and Toa will be
representing the Glads here. A friendly bounce helped Tim win a close
match 4-3.
#1 Ally Davidson
5’6” 126 lbs.

#6 (Maj.) Vanessa Warren

Siren and Crush will be
the defenders for the women’s Rocket Ball. Ally’s 10-point prelim
performance didn’t get repeated, but we did get a 6-all tie.
It’s Round 2 and it’s
men’s ATLASPHERE!! It’s just like you remember, right down to
the grid floor. Each contender will try to score in one of the four
pods worth 2 points each. Justice and Wolf will be bringing the
banging. After a minute of classic Gladiator action, Tim gets a
buzzer-beater to tie the game at 4. He keeps the lead 8-7.
Now it’s time for the
women playing with the giant balls. Phoenix and Steel will be keeping
the hits coming. Ally’s score the only goal to give her an 8-6
advantage.
Continuing the action
with the men, Time beat Titan again for 5, and all Alexander got was a
re-dislocated finger via Hurricane. Titan gets vindication on Tilt,
keeping both contenders scoreless.
Unfortunately, that
dislocation is too much of a risk for Alex to continue, so he must bow
out, so guess who’s back.
#7 Brick Reilly
5’10” 165 lbs.

One of our most
start-to-finish dominating performers gets to debut on Skytrack—where he
won in the prelims. He draws Zen and Tim gets Militia. Our Asian Glad
gets vengeance as he helps contribute to a scoreless match. Tim still
keeps a 13-7 lead.
Women’s round 3 is
Gauntlet, and there’s been a reversion back to the classic scoring
system. 5 points for a win, 10 if it’s under 20 seconds, which is
definitely possible. Our whacking order tonight is Venom, Steel, Crush,
and Hellga…or is it. Venom and Steel swap places before Ally takes off,
which did nothing. Crush laid most of the smackdown but it didn’t stop
the newlywed from hot-dogging it into the blocks in 19.5 seconds for 10
big ones. The formation stays for Major Pain, and is just as
effective. However, Vanessa does do it a second slower. That’s only
good for 5 and so Ally’s lead becomes 18-11.
Rounding out our men’s
action is Joust, and the other moment you were probably waiting for is
here. At 7 feet and 318 pounds, it’s time to unleash the Beast. Brick
looked like he had a chance, but Beast cuts his teeth with a 9-second
victory. Tim lasts only 5 seconds, but he had no lead to lose.

After 6 events, our
once-dominating contender is now in a sub-dominant position, especially
since Tim on the Eliminator makes Rocket look like a tricycle.
While we were out,
Venom went one-for-two, only yielding 5 points to Vanessa. Skytrack was
scoreless again, thanks to Crush and Jet. So it’s only a 2-point margin
heading into Powerball.
Siren, Hellga, and
Phoenix will be on defense for this 60-second smashfest. Vanessa seemed
to get all the attention, which allowed Ally to get a center goal in
addition to three outer goals for 5. Vanessa got one in, but it was
waived off (time expired) so she only got 2.

The half-second should
not matter, but you never know in the Eliminator.
6 points of lead means
3 seconds of head start for Tim. With a prelim time 45 seconds faster
than Brick’s he certainly looked in the catbird seat, so much so that he
vowed to beat his record. Ya know what? He did it, winning in
SEVENTY-SEVEN AND A HALF SECONDS! If he gets to the finals, could
we see a sub-minute? If the other two semi-finalist winners post a
faster time, though, Tim will be SOL.
On the women’s side,
newlywed Ally has a 2.5-second lead on Major Vanessa. With another
speedy performance by Ally, it looks like she could break 2 minutes, but
she struggles at the top of the Travellator and loses the milestone.
However, 2:07 is still a personal (and women’s course) best…and all
without contacts.
With our top seeds
showing why they got the top spots, the other eight contenders have a
fight on their hands. Who will make it to the next round? The quest
continues next week on American Gladiators. |
