Sibling Rivalry: Wide Load!
July 22

Tonight on Andrew's house of fun, it's the siblings that get all the attention versus the siblings that catch all the crap. It's younger siblings versus older siblings in a contest appropriately called... SIBLING RIVALRY!

YOUNGER SIBLINGS
Patrick (13)
Kayla (14)
Benji (13)
OLDER SIBLINGS
Andrew (15, Patrick's brother)
Sarah (15, Kayla's sister)
Daniel (14, Benji's brother)

The teams are going to build flatbed haulers with which to make 30 foot scaffolding towers. The haulers are going to need wheel and an extra long bed to carry their load (and since this challenge is called "Wide Load", they're going to need an extra long wingspan as well). So what are you going to use to create from your monstrosities? PICK UP TRUCKS!

Each team will destroy the other's pickup, so there is strategy coming into play by making it harder for the other team to salvage wreckage. The first Destroy options...

- Off the cliff... Let gravity do the work.
- Destroy Build Destroy's angry house wreckers, the Destroyers.
- A giant freaking tank!

Olders won the toss, so they'll destroy first. They go with... TANK. The youngers go with the cliff. So Destroyers, sit on your hands while the tank and gravity do their thing.

First, the Olders let their tank loose... Three... two... one... DESTROY! And... how does it feel to be just run over like that? Probably.. nothing new.

As for the Youngers' use of gravity... Three... two... one... DESTROY! We have a decent frame, but a lot of pieces.

Now comes the fun bit... Remember, there are builders, wreckage, and other junk. Winners get $1000 each and the chance to send their opponents to the scrapheap for good.

That said, good luck to both teams... Three... two... one... BUILD!

Let's get a plan going. The olders want to weld poles to a chassis, then add bike wheels to the poles to keep it up.

The youngers decide to reinforce their design with some metal bars. They want to basically make the same rig as their older counterparts, but their wheels are going to be much smaller for increased maneuverability.

Meanwhile, Daniel has a plan to distract brother Benji. Enter Kayla, who regulates up in this.

SETBACK CHALLENGE: Dish Smash Relay

Each team has four walls in front of them, and each wall has a smaller hole. The object is to get your dishes through as many holes as possible. First hole is worth 10, second worth 20, third worth 30, and the final hole at the end is a whopping 50 points. Each team has 40 dishes, so there's a possible 2000 points to be had. Winners get to set back their opponents.

Lots of crazy throwing, and lots of 10 points. But Daniel and Benji match each other for 20. Two plates left for each... and the youngers win, 320-260.

Their destroy options...

- Backhoe drag...
- Cement truck dump...

The youngers go with... Cement Truck Dump. Gee, this happens often, doesn't it? Older sibling does the work, younger sibling messes it up. Three... two... one... DESTROY!

For the olders, it's a matter of just cleaning stuff up. Turns out that the flatbed wasn't finished anyway, so the cement just goes right through. Okay, back to work.

The youngers use smaller wheels to balance their rig. The olders are like... REALLY? They're just hanging there!

And Daniel and his team's build is so far along that he decides that it's time to have a little fun... by stealing his brother's paint! And here comes Kayla who has to regulate again.

And... TIME! Let's see what you have...

Younger Siblings: ORANGE THUNDER. They're basically banking on smaller everything to pull them through.

Older Siblings have this GREEN MACHINE. Full-size bike wheels allow for better stability and control.

But how will they fare in our final challenge? Here's what's going down. The teams will have to race down the clearing to a piece of truss. They'll attach that with another and race back. Repeat until your scaffolding is 32 feet wide. Then use a pulley to hoist a flag atop it and raise it to the ground. First team's flag waving in the breeze wins.

Ready... set... GO!

Out of the gate, the youngers are having a trouble steering because they had to balance out their smaller wheels. Younger siblings crash into their first barrel (of many). The olders are the first to get their second piece of 8-foot truss. ... and their third piece... THEN... a barrel. Can the youngers catch up? Errmm... no. Olders load their final piece of flag tower. They're in the home stretch. Who'll raise their flag first?

It's... the GREEN TEAM! OLDERS WIN! They get $3000 AND the honor of taking the Orange Thunder and unleashing some lightning onto it.

And you know what? Let's bring the tank back! Andrew's not going to drive it, though. He's going to use the cannon.

We started the show with a tank, why not end with one. Until next week... Olders, it is yours...

"Three... two... one.. DESTROY!"
