2.12: Celebrity 5th Grader 2
November 8
Last week in the classroom,
Clay Aiken managed to take away $300,000 for his charity, while Regis
Philbin took $175,000.
Next up on the hit parade of
celebrity McDimwits is... a 39-year-old professional skateboarder who
attended Tierrasanta Elementary, please say hello to the man who took
the aerial vert and turned it into a business empire... TONY HAWK! He
says he was a pretty good student until he got to high school. He
thought that skating was on the hierarchy of coolness below nerds... My
how times have changed.
He'll be playing for the
Tony Hawk Foundation, supporting public skate parks in low-income areas.
We start it off with the one who has wheels
strapped to his sneakers... Cody. Tony Hawk can nail a 900, but is he
smarter than a 5th Grader?

TRUE OR FALSE?
There are no adjectives in the following sentence:
"Sierra boiled the spaghetti in a black pot." |
He was never
good with sentence structure, but he knows what an adjective
is. He locks in FALSE. And that's right for another $2000!
Tony's favorite teacher was
Mrs. Luisiak, who told him to do what he loved. And she's here telling
him to do it again today. Teachers really know what they are talking
about. She brought along some home movies of Tony in grade school doing
his thing. See, he was amazing even then. Also cheering on Tony is his
wife Lhotse.
Cody goes back to the class,
while Mackenzie.

Rough terrain.
Jeff explains the cheats. Tony doesn't know this one... His
instinct says no. He wants to say false, but he'll PEEK just
to make sure.
Mackenzie said FALSE. Now
that's what Tony thought. He could go with that or he could play
strategy.
He chooses to go with
Mackenzie's answer and save his save for later.... Good call. He's got
$10,000.
Next is the
milestone question. Sierra gets the call-up. She likes the
third grade questions...

In ancient Greece,
how often were the Olympic Games held?
a) Every year
b) Every four years
c) Every ten years |
Tony doesn't
think that back in Ancient Greece they had Winter Games.
Tony tries to use strategy, but he thinks that B is right,
continuing in that tradition.
He goes with his gut and
says B.
Teacher says she can support
Tony.
Sierra says... B. She cannot
save Tony. He doesn't need to be saved. He's got the money.
We're down to two
classmates... Here comes the one that likes to be picked last. Nathan:
"He's tall."

does the number 121 have? |
Tony does some
sort of mental... He does have a copy and a save. Tony wants
to say that 121 is prime. He hopes Nathan saves him.
He locks in 2. 121 and 1 are
two OF the factors. Tony is not right.
Classmates... well, one of
them gets it. Mackenzie said 3. That's a right answer. The three
factors... 1, 11, and 121.
Nathan needs to say 3.
Nathan said... 3! SAVED!
Tony says he's dedicating a
skate park to him.

QUESTION from Miles from Sierra Canyon School |
The country of
Estonia is located on which continent? |
Miles' school is
getting a computer. You're getting to Fox.com/smarter if
your kid has a question. Tony's getting this question...
Tony has never been to
Estonia. He's tempted to drop out. He wants to say Europe. He would hate
to play it safe, so he's copying the answer.
Correct answer WAS Europe.
Sierra said Africa. She and
Nathan disagree.
Nathan said Europe! He's got
$175,000!
The bad news... it's just
Tony and the fifth grade all the way to the million.

Correct answer: Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow.
Now all he has to do is...
"Hey hey, I'm Tony Hawk, and there's no WAY I'm smarter than a 5th
grader."
Oh, and Nathan gets the game
board for his hard work. Not too bad for Mini-Gordon, isn't it?
Next, another star pupil
