2.8: The New Class Last time, the Are You Smarter Class of 2007 said goodbye by giving Josh Arnold $100,000 and Greg Johnson $175,000. Now it's back to the story. Over the summer, the class went all over the country looking for the next class of AYSTA5G Elementary. They searched high and low for five kids who are smart... who are funny... and who can stand the pressure of millions of Americans watching them week in, week out. To that end, five students were chosen to fill in the coolest class on television. And now, without further delay, it's time to meet your Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Class of 2008: Cody, Mackenzie, Sierra, Nathan, and Olivia! Now let's meet their first new classmate, an 18-year-old valedictorian from Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada, KATIE BARBARO! She's also the youngest contestant ever on this show. She comes wearing her blazer which is blazing with academic honors for luck. First up to help Katie... It's Cody, Brody's identical twin brother.
She thinks platypi live underwater. Not the point, but she goes with true... and she's on the board with $1000. Next question is something new, a Classroom Club Question. Lauren from St. Andrews, an actual 1st grader, sent this question in, and because she was chosen, her school is getting a computer lab courtesy of AYSTA5G. Right nice of them. She's positive it was Abraham Lincoln... and Katie's got $2000. Sierra said: "Honest Abe". How cute. Next up to help... It's Mackenzie, who loves to sing.
Mackenzie is locked in. Katie talks her way into Ohio... then talks her way out of it. She goes with Ohio. Mackenzie said... Ohio. We bring up the map... and Katie's right! Cheering Katie on are her family and friends.
Katie counts them out. Words made of two different words. One, two, three. Three... is right! It's the first milestone question for Sierra. Her nickname: Brains. She hopes to use $25,000 to pay for college.
Sierra locks in. Katie is confident that it's C. She's got $25,000 banked! Now let's play for $50,000.
Sierra's in. Katie goes with Japan. It has to be... She's got it! Next to help for $100,000 is Mini-Gordon, Nathan from Denver, who wants to be an inventor when he grows up.
Nathan is locked in. Katie thinks that it's carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. Katie decides to use the PEEK. Nathan said... HYDROGEN. She's going to go for it... and she's right, Nathan's right, $100,000 is hers, and we move on. The mass of the universe is 3/4 hydrogen. Oh yeah, and Jeff gives Nathan Katie's valedictorian medal.
Nathan is locked. Katie knows it's C. Katie knows. She knows for $175,000. Oh yeah, and Katie breaks down the hemolytic transfusion process for us. Down to one final classmate. Olivia from Chicago, let's play!
Olivia is locked. Katie is sure that it's a lion. She goes with it... Right on! Last question before the Million Dollar Question.
Olivia locks her answer in. Katie thinks that it's Spain. She "knows" it wasn't France. But then again, she was horrible at AP Euro (C-Note: welcome to the club. Have a fruit roll-up.). Katie's gonna go for it. She locks in Spain. Olivia said... Spain. Spain is not the correct answer. It WAS France, but Katie leaves with $25,000. Not bad for a first time out for the class of '08. We'll see if they can help another person to the million tomorrow. |
