"Earthquakes and Shakeups!: Days 11-12" - October 14

Day 11: For those taking score at home, this is mysterious stranger #2.

I call this man "Koala", because he eats shoots and leaves.

He goes on the island, starts spouting God knows what, then asks for "One chief." We all agree that Scout is the chief of the Yasur, because she's the oldest, the wisest, and the most obvious. Koala gives Scout a stick and a pendant, and then goes on his merry way.

"We're not really sure what this is all about, but we have a feeling that the tribes are going to get mixed up." No sooner than that comes out of Leann's mouth, that I look down... and the center of the earth's looking back. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to panic...

EARTHQUAAAAAAKE!!!!! OMFGWTF!!!!

R-CHALLENGE: Deep Sea Diving (for Pringles and beer; Bubba, who can't swim, takes a seat)

The tribes arrive at the cove for today's challenge, but first, Jeff has some news. First, he separates the "chiefs" from the rest of the tribes. Then as for the rest of the tribes, it's the three words that they've been dreading since coming into this game and playing the hackneyed game that they've been playing...

"Drop your buffs."

It's that time again. SWITCH! This time, Scout (as determined by a game of janken) has to pick new tribes, while Sarge will pick which tribe he'll become part of.

The tribes picked:

Lopevi - Julie, Chad, Chris, Twila, John
Yasur - Ami, Lisa (last person standing who got to choose), Eliza, Leann, Bubba, Rory

Sarge elects to stay at Lopevi, leaving Scout to join her tribesmates in Yasur. Now to the challenge. The survivors will dive down deep under a buoy and collect chips. The deepest of which is 30 feet below the surface. After ten minutes, the most chips wins reward. Pringles and beer. Also the name of Ludacris' new album.

In a dead-even race to the end, Ami tries to tie it up at seven. She'll do that if she comes up with a chip. At time called... she doesn't. So 7-6 for Lopevi, as they get to enjoy... Pringles and beer.

Back at camp: Yeah, we lost... So?

Yasur doesn't feel too bad about the loss because they are excited to have new members. So says Eliza as they have dinner of their own, with sugar cane as a dessert. "I'm sweatin' like a prostitute in church" over the prospect of the women having to vote them out, while Ami cites the men as "whatever it takes to get it done." Someone has male issues...

Rory and Bubba assume their roles as Ami's little disposable henchmen, and Lisa wants to show the guys how to properly crack open a coconut. Ami stops Lisa in her tracks, saying that we have to keep some secrets to ourselves. "I don't need to be showing them stuff to be cool." Far be it for me to say anything, but anyone who's watched an episode of Iron Chef that involves coconuts knows how to do it.

And apparently this is only the beginning. Ami is irritated that the bond amongst the "five women strong" might be disappearing already. "I'm sticking by the ladies. [Rory and Bubba] really need to prove themselves or else *raspberry* They're outta here!"

And I thought I had some insecurities with the opposite sex.

Day 12: I-CHALLENGE: Outrigger Out-Relay

As Jeff is collecting his Pike of Power (TM Chico Alexander), Bubba turns to Chris and says "Think about the merge." There's Ami with that look again.

Onto the challenge. Knotted deep within the jungle are parts of an outrigger canoe, first the boat, then the frame, the paddle, and the rigger. Then they must put them together and row out to the buoy and back. First taem to do so wins immunity. The race starts as a dead heat but Lopevi breaks into a groove and doesn't look back. Of course, it doesn't help matters ANY that Rory is having more than his fair share of difficulties with his rigger knots. That enables John to get the rigger out to the beach and Lopevi to start assembling and rowing.

By the time we get our canoe assemble ready, Lopevi is seaworthy. way out in front. And then we get out canoe ready to sail, hoping to catch up, but a) a terrible pushoff and b) the wrong direction equals c) Tribal Council tonight. As much as we try to close the gap, the Lopevi eventually find their way around the rowing and win the Immunity Idol.

Probst comments on Rory's failure at the knots and says that Ami and Bubba's paddling was the worst he has ever seen.

Later that day: Hail Mary.

Rory: "One of the two of us has to go. The women of Yasur are going to vote as a block. The only thing I can do is assume the worst, hope for the best, and pray to God that I'm here tomorrow."

Ami says that she and Bubba looked like two idiots. Bubba more so for his play call at the challenge. She has her mind made up. Bubba is not part of the team.

Bubba is worried that his play call, a smart move if you happen to have a Y chromosome, may cost him. Alone with Ami, Bubba asks her to warn him if he is being voted out. He just doesn't want to be blindsided. Ami tells Bubba to "check with the boss". "I don't do that whole 'y'all' thing." Yes she does. The other tribespeople don't know it, but yeah... she does.

Meanwhile, it's a conference with the ladies, as Eliza doesn't think that a Pagonging of the men is in order, because the next few challenges may be physical in nature.

Before heading off to Tribal Council, Rory and Travis say a prayer and share a hug.

Volcano!

Night 12: Tribal Council.

Lisa likes having the two new men around. She enjoys it a lot. Leann thinks she hasn't made the switch. Ami cites the signal. Bubba was hoping to get a sign. It was a big play... and he blew it. Rory is still worried that it will be him or Bubba tonight, as the only thing that would change that is the outcome of Immunity. Ami once again carries the dirt on her shoulder, saying that she's glad that Twila or Jules isn't going home tonight.

"paging mad feminist..."

Travis says that she busted his butt trying to win, even though he isn't a good swimmer. Rory says that if the women outsmart him, he's going to go down with his ship and take his loss like a man. Scout states she selected Rory and Travis because she really wanted to play the game with them. It ain't over until the fat lady sings.

"Paging fat lady on standby..." It's time to vote.

Rory: BUBBA - "You know you're my brother. We were just put in an awkward situation, where it was just going to be you or I."
Bubba: RORY - "We'll get the girls."
Ami: BUBBA :( - "Sorry, but you know why."

Rest of the votes:

Lisa: BUBBA :(
Eliza: BUBBA :(
Scout: BUBBA
Leann: TRAVIS

By a count of six to one, Bubba, THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN. Or should I say... Bum-bum-ba-bum, waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!
