NIGHT 3 - REDEMPTION ISLAND: TWO VETS GET
A ROOKIE
Rupert and Candice have zero idea what happened these last three
days...so they're a little shocked to see Gervase's niece leaning
her torch against the hut. But they immediately welcome Marissa
as she explains all the "frowny faces" on her votes (which
she doesn't believe for an instant, mind you). Rupert's just glad
his wife Laura B. didn't show up. Candice thinks Marissa was booted
because she said she didn't like Brad that first day. One thing
all three can agree on: they are all pi$$ed about being there!
DAY 4: SOMETHING'S FISHY...
Apparantly, each Tribe's been given an Hawai'ian Sling along with
the canoe. Brad is out teaching the other newcomers how to use it.
At least they have fire and can cook the rice and fish now. Rachel
thinks she and Tyson are at risk now, with her being in the front.
She's CERTAIN Alliances have been made...and is MORE than certain
all the guys are together. So...she tries to blend in with the guys
to, at the very least, prolong her stay as much as possible. When
Rachel talks to John about allying with each other, Ciera...doesn't
like it. So she tells Laura M. to be cautious about them.
And, to top it all off,...TREE-MAIL!

SO IT IS TIME
FOR THE ENTIRE TRIBE TO GO TO REDEMPTION ISLAND ARENA AND
WITNESS TODAY'S DUEL.
SEE WHO MAINTAINS
HOPE IN THIS GAME AND WHO GOES HOME FOR GOOD.

Huh...used to be just
two or three representatives go...but now all eight Tadhanas get
to see if their banished compadre can hang on to her chances. John
thinks this will be tough on everyone...as, one way or another,
one "loved one" goes home for good after the...
REDEMPTION DUEL: OPERATION
BALANCE BUILD
Uncle Jeff calls in Galang
and then Tadhana...and Gervase sees the result of his cockiness
yesterday. The girls of Galang are happy that THEIR Loved Ones are
safe and sound.
Ladies and gentlemen (and
the rest of you), this duel is scheduled for one fall! Entering
the Arena first, from Indianapolis, weighing 235 pounds (all of
it heart), America's Choice, RUPERT BONEHAM! His opponents...first,
from Washington, in her third Survivor and hopefully first
NOT in 13th place, CANDICE WOODCOCK CODY! And their opponent, From
Tar Heel Country, niece of the only original Survivor in the game,
MARISSA PETERSON!
After Marissa spouts out at her ex-Tribe,
Uncle Jeff introduces a twist: just like after the first vote on
the beach three days before, the loved one of the one last voted
off can switch off with the RI occupant and take part in the Duel,
knowing that to lose means their loved one continues and they are
sent home packing. Gervase tells Marissa, "Handle yer biz".
OK, to the Duel, which is a throwback
to an old One World Challenge. Duelists take a spool, grab
it with tongs and maneuver it through a vertical metal maze before
placing it on a small pedastal connected to the maze. The whole
maze is on a spring; a touch can make it wobble, a jolt can make
the stack of spools being built tumble. First two to build up all
ten spools on top of each other on the pedastal and have it steady
for three ticks stay in the game and keep Redemption alive. The
other...will be the first to leave Survivor: Blood vs. Water.
Oh...and one more thing: the FIRST to finish gets to decide who
gets a clue to the hidden Individual Immunity Idol (or "3I"
as I like to call it). It doesn't have to be one in your ex-Tribe.
Hell, it doesn't even have to be your loved one!
"Survivors, ready....GO!!"
All three get their first spool through
quickly...but Rubert bangs all over the place and, as such, the
spool falls off right away. As such, the girls pull ahead. Things
calm down as all three take a quick but careful route through the
maze over and over. The towers sway...but probably more due to wind
than jostling by the Duelists.
Rupert took great care in lining his
spools up at first...but now the stack of eight seems lopsided.
The wind picks up, making Rupert nervous. He's one behind Candice
and one ahead of Marissa. As Candice goes back for her last one...TIMBER!
Rupert's stack crashes down! Laura B. is sad. Meanwhile, Candice
goes slowly...and steadily...and stacks the last spool on top...and
slowly removes the tongs...and, with a "1...2...3!" by
Uncle Jeff, CANDICE STAYS ALIVE! AND she gets to decide
who gets the 3I clue!
Marissa is on her ninth...but she can
now be methodical and extra-careful because Rupert has to start
over from near-scratch. He's about up to his fifth as Marissa goes
back for her last. As she puts it through and places it, Gervase
tells her to lift her elbows to keep the last one steady. She pulls
back..."3...2...1..." MARISSA STAYS ALIVE!
Rupert spent a grand total of one hundred
days in the game during his first three attempts at the million...but
his fourth attempt crashed and burned after only FOUR days. And,
what's more, this time he did it in front of his loving wife. Laura
B. rushes down to hug and kiss her hubby, who whispers, "You'll
be fine" at her. But...no regrets for taking Laura's place
that first day. He loves the game...but he loves his wife more.
His Buff(TM) goes in the urn, his torch remains unlit, and the troubled-teen
mentor saunters back to Indy, leaving his wife to carry on for him.
OK, last bit of business: who gets
the 3I clue? Candice chooses...hubby John, of course. John is SO
relieved; he had felt guilty ever since he DIDN'T take Candice's
place three days ago...but, now that he has a clue to staying alive
a little longer in this game, the remorse is past.
AFTERNOON
4 : JOHN IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT
Everyone's glad for John that her wife
won the Duel...but they're NOT so glad that a POed Marissa has stayed.
Then again, what John REALLY wants is for Candice to win every Duel
and get Redeemed...so sending weak Duelists is the plan right now
for him.
The Four and a Half Men Alliance meet
at the watering hole and discuss the added twist of Duelist swapping
and who would be the one most likely TO swap. Vytas think it's Tyson
if Rachel gets voted...so they SHOULD vote her out next so that
he DOES switch and make Galang weaker because of it. But...that
goes against John's strategy to keep Candice around (though he keeps
that to himself). Bottom line for Brad, though, is that John finds
the 3I and keep their Alliance strong even post-Merge.
Speaking of clues, here's John's:.

BETWEEN YOUR
CAMP AND FRESH WATER
YOU ARE GOING TO SEE A TREE.
PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE YOU WALK
OR YOU MAY STUMBLE OVER IMMUNITY!
|
|
So...it's near a tree between Camp
Tadhana and the watering hole, eh? He has an idea...but he decides
to keep it a secret from the 4.5MA for now...
(Night 4 and Day 5 are all about Ol'
King Coulson up to his usual crap so...I'll let Chico deal with
it. On to...)
DAY 6 - REWARD/IMMUNITY CHALLENGE:
IN THE BARREL
"C'mon in, guys!" Monica hands Mr. Ugly (the Tribal Immunity
Idol) in and Uncle Jeff reviews the Challenge:
Three Tribe members will be tied to
each other and will roll another Tribe member in a barrel to criss-crossing
flagpoles. At said flagpoles, said barrelled member (after fighting
off the dizziness) must undo a knot to release a bag of balls before
heading back inside to be rolled again. Once all balls are released,
the remaining members of each Tribe must roll said balls into six
targets on a board. First to plug all six holes gets Mr. Ugly and
is safe from Tribal tonight. ALSO, said winners get a plethora of
fishing gear including net and live bait...in case the Hawai'ian
Sling ain't doing it for ya. Galang sits Kat out of this mess and
everyone strategizes. and prepares. Galang's pushers are Tyson,
Aras, and Monica and they will push Laura M.; Tadhana's Vytas, Brad
and John will push Katie. All others have ball-rolling duty.
"Survivors, ready....GO!!"
Laura M. is first to the first flagpole,
but Katie is not too far behind. The lead is lengthed at the second
flagpole, and even moreso at the third. How EITHER girl ain't hurling
by this point is beyond me. The lead is lost, however, at the fourth
pole as both girls grab theirs at just about the same time (Katie
a half-a-second ahead). They roll the barrels to the final cradle
and Katie gets out first...as Galang has issues lining the barrel
up properly.
Now it's up to Hayden to hold the lead
that they couldn't hold last time. After tossing all six balls,
one land in the upper-left hole. As Gervase steps up for Galang,
Hayden gets one in the upper-middle. But Gervase knocks one off
the back and into Galang's upper-middle hole. Hayden...middle-right.
Gervase...middle-right. Gervase...ricochet's off middle-right and
into the upper-righ. All tied up at 3. Hayden...JUST misses upper-right.
Gervase...upper-left to put Galang in the lead. Hayden...ties it
up by getting middle-left. Gervase, like the Philly Eagles jersey
he wears, tosses carefully and hits the middle-left. The head-pin
hole is all that's left...and he NAILS it! GALANG WINS IMMUNITY
AND REWARD!
UGH! Once again, the rookies squander
a lead. Once again the vets walk away with Mr. Ugly and the fishing
gear. And, once again, Tadhana have to see which of Galang's Loved
Ones has to go to Redemption Island.
AFTERNOON 6: WHO'S NEXT?
Unlike last time, there was
nothing but kudos all around for a Challenge well done. Brad is
angry as all hell about Gervase "rubbing the slat in the wound"
and promises that, should a more head-to-head physical Challenge
shows up, he will slam Gervase into the ground! Katie is hoping
the guys like her enough to keep her around; she's sure SOMEone
of the female persuasion's leaving the camp tonight.
The 4.5MA meet and many still think
Rachel should go because Tyson will swap with her come the Duel.
John tries to talk them out of it but the guys say that Tyson will
at LEAST be dismayed even if he DOESN'T swap so...good for the Tribe
as a whole. Vytas starts to think John has more allegiance to Rachel
than to their Alliance.
The men tell Katie and Ciera to vote
for Rachel...and that they're telling Rachel to vote for Ciera.
Ciera doesn't like that idea and tells Katie that she's concerned
that John will save Rachel with the 3I, meaning CIERA is out. So...they
decide they want the Alliance to vote for JOHN and just flush OUT
the Idol (which, by the way, John doesn't have yet). Hayden is,
likewise, a bit iffy on John for not sharing the 3I clue with them.
Vytas thinks they should blindside John tonight
TRIBAL COUNCIL:
Beachfront Circle of Doom we go...and
there's Uncle Jeff ready for our second group therapy session of
the game.
The guys HAVE been targeting the women,
says Ciera. Hayden says the male bonding is just "how it's
worked out so far". Katie's still trying to figure out the
play here.
Caleb says that having a clue to the
3I puts a target on you...and, if John has FOUND it, he has to decide
whether it's in his best interest to let people know. John understands
that the one they vote out OR their loved one will be facing Candace
at the next Duel. Hayden shrugs and says the vote could potentially
weaken Galang in the long run.
“There are probably more layers to
votes this season than we have ever had before”, says Uncle Jeff.
And it is time to vote! The gang saunters to the alcove to etch
the name of he or she who is out of the Tribe. Hayden votes for
Rachel, Ciera for John. All others are hidden. Uncle Jeff tallies,
asks for 3Is, gets no takers and reads the votes:
"John :("...
John...
Ciera...
Rachel...
"Rachel <3"...
Rachel....
...and RACHEL :("!
It's 5-2-1 (and the 4.5MA stays united
and intact) and the graphic designer from Provo gets her torch snuffed.
She will carry it to Redemption Island and join Candace and Marissa
to await the next Duel.
Uncle Jeff's last piece of advice?
It's only six days into 39...but winning the next Challenge is becoming
a MUST!
