Part 5: Boot Camp
Day 2
August 14
The fifteen arrived at Boot Camp, but the
stay was ever so brief for Dustin Rocho, who sees his shot at Mt.
Midoriyama - and the $500,000 K-Swiss endorsement that comes with total
victory - go up in flames. Now 14 remain as we continue to thin out the
herd to the final 10.
PRESSURE CHALLENGE #2: Hang Move
This challenge requires balance and
strength.
In this challenge taken from the third
stage, four pipes hang from chains. The objective, get from one side to
the other in the fastest time. To make it difficult, you will be
weighted down by a 40-pound backpack. The slowest time will earn his
entire team punishment.
Playing are Alan Connealy (Red Dragons),
Jake Smith (Blue Monkeys), and Brent Steffensen (White Tigers).
First is Brent... He clocks in at ...
22.37 seconds.
Jake... schools Brent with a time of
12.56 seconds. He's safe.
Alan needs to beat 22.37 seconds in order
to avoid punishment... but he doesn't even finish. The Red Dragons are
headed to punishment. They will have to roll 40 tires from Boot Camp of
various sizes and weights to the training ground.
TEAM RELAY #2: Roulette Cylinder/Balance Tank
The two obstacles to be tested today
are...
- ROULETTE CYLINDER: The opening obstacle
of the recent Sasuke Third Stage, you use the spokes of a hanging
cylinder to propel yourself forward along a railing. Fall before
reaching the red cradle, and you will incur a three-minute penalty. This
obstacle took Brian Orosco out last year.
- BALANCE TANK: You will have two chances to ride a rolling log along a
rail. Travis Furlanic failed on this obstacle from Stage Two. Fail
before reaching the other side, and you will incur a two-minute penalty.
Each team relay will also test endurance.
In this relay, you will also be required to carry one of the tires
brought by the Red Dragons. Because they are of varying sizes, it's
important to choose your tire wisely.
The team with the slowest total team time
will send two of their own to the Heavenly Ropes, where one will be
eliminated.

HEAVENLY ROPES #1: #2 Chris Wilczewski vs.
#10 Brian Orosco
Well.... That was interesting.
Very simple. In the final stage, you race
against the clock. Today, you race against each other. Make it to the
top, you live to fight another day. Lose... you're going home.
The first up to the top... BRIAN. The
Japan vet continues his march toward a sixth trip to the Land of the
Rising Sun... Meanwhile, the sun sets on Chris Wilczewski, who sees his
dreams - and his warrior tag - engulfed.
Ten spots... 13 Ninjas... The road to
total victory continues.
