Top 13/12 Compete
June 26

Last week, we dealt in mystery Mystery Boxes, filled pasta, a visit to McKinley High on the Paramount lot, and not-Lemon Meringue Pies. After all that... we're down to 13 after Bime got targeted by Krissi... and rubbed out.

Round 4 starts... NOW.

MYSTERY BOX #4

Inside the Mystery Box today... a giant pig head! Seriously, these things are delicacies. They have all been furnished with a pantry box and a limited pantry to make their head (or whatever they make of it) shine. Like the pig's eyeballs! Oh, by the way, the heads have been broken down for you: ears, tongue, cheeks, and pork snout.

And you have 90 minutes. Don't hog your time.

The top 3...

- Lynn: Braised Tongue & Cheek with Parsnip Puree
- Jessie: Braised Cheek & Ear with Black Eyed Peas & Roasted Corn
- Jonny: Tongue & Cheek Tacos with Tomato Jam

A hard one to judge, this one...

Winner.... Lynn Chyi!

ELIMINATION TEST #4: Asian & American Comfort Food

Lynn's three choices... will be delivered by season 3 MasterChef CHRISTINE HA! Her new cookbook, "Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian & American Comfort Food", is available now, go get it.

Her choices... favorite ingredients: chicken, catfish, and a live Dungeness crab.

Lynn's first advantage: he will not have to cook any of these three. He's safe. His second... He can choose one ingredient for one cook and another for the rest. He targets Krissi with... CATFISH. The rest of the cooks are going to go with... DUNGENESS CRAB! If you remember, this ingredient was given to Christine last season, and she made it her own.

But there's one more surprise. You will be made to cook your crab... BLINDFOLDED. Sixty minutes in the dark.

... JUST KIDDING! Blindfolds off. Reset the clock and let's do it again!

Krissi: Fried Catfish with Bacon Cheddar Mashed Potatoes with Asparagus - too earthy. Needs elevated flavor. And Joe spit it out. Lynn may have signed your death warrant. Joe? "At this point, you're wasting my time, and I don't like to have my time wasted. For me, you're done. Thanks, Lynn. At least you let me know who's here to play."

Natasha: Ginger Crab Cakes with Beet Salad - nice and poppy.
Bri: Summer Crab Stack with Pea & Avocado Mash and Corn Puree - delicious.
James: Spicy Crab Creole with Rice & Seafood Broth - right kind of heat.
Beth: Mascarpone Crab Cake with Grilled Peach & Avocado Salsa - "It's completely raw."
Luca: Crab Risotto with Asparagus & Lemon - Too salty. It's a disaster.

Honorable mention goes to... someone with bold, exotic flavors... Natasha. But the WINNER of this Elimination Test... JAMES!

Now the bad news. The bottom three for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS... Beth, Luca, and Krissi.

Someone has reached their level of crabbiness and may very well get catfished.

That person... BETH KIRBY, hang up your apron.

Krissi... one more chance.

We're going to go to the field in a moment, but right now let's pause 10 seconds to give stations a chance to identify themselves over the Fox Broadcasting Company.

(10 seconds)

Time for the requisite MasterChef wedding. The guests of honor... Anya & Aaron. Aaron is a foodie scientist. Anya is his foodie fiancee. Anya has some rules to go over... No peanuts, beets, radishes, celery root, fennel, Indian food, bell peppers, dill, cilantro, or olives. The good news, we get some help in the form of Graham cooking an appetizer and Gordon cooking dessert.

The final 12... have the entree.

TEAM FIELD CHALLENGE #4: Wedding Crash

Of the 103 wedding guests, there are 15 vegetarians, so it's up to you to make sure that everyone gets something delicious.

REDS (Natasha): Eddie, Jordan, Bethy, Savannah, Krissi
BLUES (James): Lynn, Jessie, Jonny, Bri, Luca

There's one more snag. Natasha & James have to pick one person who will NOT be cooking. If you lose today, that person will not cook in the Pressure Test. Natasha picks Krissi, while James jilts Bri.

The appetizer, prepped by Graham, is Spring Pea Essence with Whipped Creme Fraiche. Gordon has for dessert Sticky Toffee Pudding with Brown Bread Ice Cream.

You have 2 hours to conceive, prep, and cook an entree that satisfies all the diners AND matches the standards of our two megachefs.

The Blues are going to prep a rack of lamb with parsnip puree and grilled mushrooms over goat cheese creme fraiche. The Reds... are going with a halibut beurre blanc and an eggplant tomato stack.

The Reds are turning ugly... Natasha needs to be more vocal and less arrogant. The Blues, on the other hand, are moving smoothly. The judges are worried that they've gone too far too soon.

Graham serves his soup, and now expectations are high... er than before.

  MAIN VEGAN
RED Seared Halibut with Baby Carrots Tomato Eggplant Stack
BLUE Lamb Medallion with Parsnip Puree Grilled Mushroom over Goat Cheese Puree

Meanwhile, Lynn's dish is wiped on with puree. The Blues are replating, while the Reds are serving their fish. Eventually, the lamb comes out as well. Natasha is stepping up. Lynn... is starting to feel the heat, sweating on the food and the plates. Can't have that. The Blues are five tables behind... And now he's wiping the plates with the same rag he's wiping his brow. Yuck! Graham had to step in and reset the team.

While Gordon works on dessert, Joe does what Joe always does... canvass the room.

The votes are in... and the winner...

... RED TEAM! Natasha's going to take the W and some champagne.

PRESSURE TEST #4: Macaroons

Deciding who competes in the Pressure Test? The judges. They get one save each. Joe picks Jessie, Graham Luca, and Gordon James. It's going to be Jonny and Lynn for the right to cook another day.

This Pressure Test... The cookies are light and thin with just the right amount of crunch. In the middle, the right amount of filling. You have to make 12 of them AND they have to be at least two flavors AND they all have to fit inside your box.

You have the exact same ingredients (flour, almond powder, eggs, sugar, and vanilla bean) and limited pantry access.

You have 30 minutes to bake your macaroon. Jonny's macaroons are too thick. And then his cookies crumble as he jams them in the box. Lynn... piped the macaroons too thick

- Lynn: Five raspberry & five salted caramel macaroons - the raspberry was whole. Other than that, they look good.
- Jonny: Chocolate Peanut Butter mousse & raspberry mascarpone macaroons... jammed inside the box. But the flavor is there.

The person leaving MasterChef tonight... is JONNY BLANCHARD. They were nowhere near the beautiful standard.

Eleven left but any one of them could be next. The next elimination... and a very special Mystery Box... next week.
