November 1

A check for a quarter-million dollars... A trophy... Bragging rights... The right to be called the best of the best. These things and more come with the title of Jeopardy! Grand Champion, and for the next two weeks, fifteen of the best Jeopardy! players this year will return for one more go at it.

Where 15 once stood, now only three remain. Doug Hicton, a three-time champ with over $86,000. Cliff Galiher, a college student who won this year's university title. Celeste DiNucci, a five-time champ with $84,000 to her name. In thirty minutes, one of them will be named 2007's Jeopardy! grand champion.

There is a minimum guarantee of $100,000 for second place and $50,000 for third.

Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation, as well as a copy of the Jeopardy! DVD home game. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

Blank the scores. And away we go. Jeopardy! round...

NATIONAL PARKS RECENT CINEMA IF HE'S TAKEN MOM'S LAST NAME IT AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE ECONOMIES OF THE WORLD CROSSWORD CLUES "G"

Daily Double: $600 Crossword Clues "G". In a rare move, Celeste found it the first clue. As a result, no one has any cash and Celeste can bet $1000. She does. Here's the clue. Medusa's favorite blue cheese? (10). "What is gorgonzola?" Correct for $1000!

At the end of the Jeopardy! round...

$5,200 $600 $6,600
Celeste Cliff Doug

Double Jeopardy! categories:

SCIENTIFIC
AMERICAN
JAZZ HANDS ARABIC POMPIDOU & CIRCUMSTANCES UNREAL ESTATE REAL CASTLES & PALACES

Daily Double #1: $1200 Real Castles & Palaces. Cliff, with $1400 to Celeste's $4400 and Doug's $12,600, bets $2000 on this: King John's castle rises majestically above the banks of this river in the city of Limerick. "What is Cork?" Nope, it was Shannon, leaving him $600 under.

Daily Double #2: $1200 Scientific American. Celeste has $7200 to Cliff's $3000 and Doug's $23,000. Celeste bets $7000 on this: an IPY, an international this year; kicked off in 2007 to study ice shelfs & permafrost. "What is polar?" Correct for $14,200!

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! Round...

$14,200 $3,000 $22,600
Celeste Cliff Doug

Let's get one thing straight. Given yesterday's scores, there is no way Cliff can possibly win.

If both Celeste and Doug bet nothing, then Doug wins by $800. Therefore the margin of victory in this particular series for Celeste is that much. She can lose this game by no more than $7599 and still win the tournament.

Final Jeopardy! category: COLONIAL AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
