Preliminaries: Haines/Terrell/Unite
November

A check for a
quarter-million dollars... A trophy... Bragging rights... The right to
be called the best of the best. These things and more come with the
title of Jeopardy! Grand Champion, and for the next two weeks, fifteen
of the best Jeopardy! players this year will return for one more go at
it.
We start with 15... from
there we go to nine... then three... and finally... one. We start with
five preliminary matches to determine the nine semifinalists. Those nine
will compete for a spot in the two-day final to determine who will walk
away with the grand prize.
Another standard two-week affair awaits with an minimum guarantee of
$100,000 for second place and $50,000 for third.
Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists
are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning
accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.
Who will join Chris Mazurek, Craig Westphal, and Paul Glaser in the
semifinals? Time for game four...

Daily Double: $1000 Stock & Trade.
It was the last category in play, and everyone wanted to find the Daily Double.
But Christian finds it with $9400 against Steve's $5400 and Sara's $200. He bets
$2000 on this: this company, TM, is a hybrid, as it also runs a financial
services division. "What is Toyota?" Correct for $11,400.

Bicentennial?" Correct for $15,600!
Daily Double #2: $1200 Vocabulary.
Christian can put this game out of reach with $21,200 against Steve's $10,400.
Sara is $200 down. He fronts $2400 on this: in a fighting mood? You can enter
the fray or take part in this noisy disturbance, from the Italian for "to
smash". "What is the ruckus?" Nope, it's a fracas, leaving him with $18,800.

SEMI-FINALIST:
Christian Haines
Christian is another
formidable foe who knows that you have to play the entire game. He just
did enough to scrape by in the third Daily Double, keeping in mind that
in order to finish the race on top, you still have to be in it.
Something Sara learned the hard way today.
So we know that he's going
to the final. We also know that Celeste DiNucci and Susan Mitchell are
guaranteed slots against our four champs.
Final quarterfinal tomorrow. |
