Finals:
Sarda/Block/Cooper - Part 2
February 12
The last three games were some of the
most momentous in Jeopardy! history, as nine teenagers competed for
three spots in this week's grand final. Some rose to the top like
Barrett Block and Nilai Sarda. Others... they fell short, opening the
way for the rare semifinal wild card in Leonard Cooper. All three have
one thing in common. They all believe that they are 48 hours away from
winning $75,000. Only one will take that honor.
Second place gets $25,000. Third gets $15,000.
All
tournament participants will receive the all new edition of Classroom
Jeopardy! for their schools. All money will be determined, as always, by
how far the players go in the tournament.
You're 30 minutes away from a Big Money
Moment....

Daily Double: $800 How Nobel of
Them. This is hard to believe, but Nilai finds it out of the gate. So this will
be a straight-play round. He bets $1000 on this: he got his job at age 4; 49
years later, in 1989, he won a Nobel Peace Prize. "Who is the Dalai Lama?" That
would've been right, but Jimmy Carter puts the screws to him to the tune of
-$1000.

Daily Double #1: $1200 It Happened
in February. Nilai has a $2600 lead over Barrett, $8400 to his $5800. He fronts
$2000 on this: though technically in winter, the protests that toppled Egypt's
leader in February 2011 were part of this. "What is the Arab Spring?" Correct
for $10,400!
Daily Double #2: $800 American Lit.
Leonard has $18,200... and he's going to risk ALL OF IT! Well, most of it,
$18,000. Here's the clue: in Reginald Rose's play "Twelve Angry Men", the men
are all members of one of these. "What is a jury?" .... CORRECT FOR $36,200!
At the end of the round...

Let's do some math. If
Barrett were to double it, the $18,000, added to his $17,600, would NOT
be enough to win. He picked a bad day to have a bad day. If Nilai were
to double it, the $28,800, added to his $19,000, would give him $47,800.
Leonard could bet to lock out Nilai, but the smarter play, if he didn't
know what to do, would be to freeze out Barrett, who would be $3400
short if he doubled. Bottom line for Leonard, who did what he had to do
today, the magic number is $3401 and not one dollar more.
