Semifinals: Oxx/Orlet/Rothenberg
November 11
Last week on Jeopardy!, 15 teenagers
began the pursuit of $75,000, bragging rights, and the coveted Jeopardy!
Teen Tournament trophy. Five of them won their games and tickets to this
week. Joining them, four high scorers among the non-winners. Now things
get serious as the players compete in three semifinal games for three
slots in the two-day final. It's win... or go home.
Players this week are guaranteed $10,000,
with a guarantee of $15,000 for third place and $25,000 for second.. All
money will be determined, as always, by how far the players go in the
tournament.
The winner of today's match gets Aidan
Mehigan and Will Dantzler. The losers get $10,000.

Daily Double: $800 Medicine. Gabe is
currently behind leader Rachel, $1800 to her $3400. Lindsay has yet to
show her claws. Gabe makes it a true Daily Double. The clue: in the
1870s germs of this disease of cattle became the first microorganism
identified as a cause of illness. "What is rabies?" That's... not it. It
was anthrax, leaving him tied with Lindsay.

Daily Double #1: $1600 Classic Lit.
This was the ninth clue in play, and the other eight, including a sweep of
Star Trek, belonged to Rachel with $15,600 to Gabe's $1400. She goes with a
bet of $3000 on this: Edmond Dantes is unjustly accused of aiding the exiled
Napoleon & imprisoned for life in this novel. "What is 'A Tale of Two Cities'?"
Stopped at eight. It was "The Count of Monte Cristo", leaving her still with a
mammoth lead of $12,600.
Daily Double #2: $1600 "T"eography. Gabe bolstered
his total to $3800, but this one belongs to Rachel
with $14,600. She bets $1500 on this: this Indian
name for Mount Rainier is also the name of a major
city nearby. "What is Tillamook?" No, it was Tacoma,
leaving her with $13,100.
At the end of the Double Jeopardy!
round, it's a more interesting game than it was at the start...

And now, here's what we have to deal
with, courtesy of J-Archive.com...
In a reprise of last night, this is a
2/3 for first place.
- Lindsay wins if... like the two
games before hers, leaders Gabe and Rachel do something incredibly stupid, and
she does something incredibly smart.
- Gabe wins if ... he bets $3600 and is right, while Rachel misses.
- Rachel wins if... she bets $7701 and is right. She does not want to give
Lindsay a chance, though, by betting more than $7899.

Lindsay's response: what is Korea? CORRECT. Wager:

Gabe's response: what is the Korean Peninsula? CORRECT. Wager: $11,798.
Total: $23,598.
Rachel's response: what is the Korean Peninsula? CORRECT. Wager: $16,601. Total: $39,601.
FINALIST:
Rachel Rothenberg
This is going to be an
interesting final. Rachel knew exactly what she had to do, and save for
a moment in the Double Jeopardy! round when her game took a skid,
allowing Gabe to catch up, she executed fully. Now she has to duplicate
her front end if she is to have any hope of catching (and possibly
surpassing) her two opponents...
We're two games away from a
champion next time.
