Semifinals: Johnson/Dantzler/Howard
November 10

Last week on Jeopardy!, 15 teenagers began the pursuit of $75,000, bragging rights, and the coveted Jeopardy! Teen Tournament trophy. Five of them won their games and tickets to this week. Joining them, four high scorers among the non-winners. Now things get serious as the players compete in three semifinal games for three slots in the two-day final. It's win... or go home.

Players this week are guaranteed $10,000, with a guarantee of $15,000 for third place and $25,000 for second.. All money will be determined, as always, by how far the players go in the tournament.

Joining up with Aidan Mehigan... one of these three.

WHATEVER "TEXT" ME

Daily Double: $800 "Text" Me. Gabriel went hunting early, and it pays off for him with $5200. Will has $1600 to Solomon's $400. Gabriel makes it true on this: this is an ostensible reason put forward to conceal a true purpose or object. "What is... " Pretext, dropping him to zero.

At the end of Jeopardy! round...

$1,200 $4,400 -$400
Gabriel Will Solomon

Double Jeopardy! categories:

SHIPS BALL GAMES MUSIC TREES! OH, WHAT
A KNIGHT
WORD
ORIGINS

Daily Double #1: $1200 Oh, What a Knight. Gabriel goes a-hunting again, within range of the lead with $7600 to Will's $10,400. Solomon has $2000. He bets $1400 on this: in the "Song of Roland", this code asked knights "to keep faith" & "to fight for the welfare of all". "What is the Code of Honor?" No, it's the chivalric code, leaving him with $6200.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Ships. Solomon has a rare opportunity to make this a horserace with $4000 to Gabriel's $6200 to Will's $10,800. He bets $2000 on this: tragically, in December 1941 this battleship sank in less than 9 minutes, with 1177 of her crew. "What is the Arizona?" Correct for $6000!

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! round...

$15,000 $17,600 $2,400
Gabriel Will Solomon

And now, here's what we have to deal with, courtesy of J-Archive.com...

In a reprise of last night, this is a 4/5 for first place with weak Shore's conjecture.

- Solomon wins if... Gabriel and Will do something wrong, and he does something right. No, this is not a repeat of last night.
- Gabriel wins if ... he bets $9800 and is right, while Will bets no more than a Shoretegic $7601. No, this is not a repeat of last night.
- Will wins if... he bets $12,401 and is right.

Final Jeopardy! category: ARCHITECTURE

DE MAUPASSANT, ZOLA & DUMAS FILS WERE AMONG THOSE SIGNING A PETITION DECRYING IT AS "A GIGANTIC...FACTORY CHIMNEY"

Correct response: what is the Eiffel Tower?

Solomon's response: what is the Eiffel Tower? CORRECT. Wager: $600. Total: $3000.
Gabriel's response: what is the Eiffel Tower? CORRECT. Wager: Everything. Total: $30,000.
Will's response: what is the Eiffel Tower? CORRECT. Wager: $16,601. Total: $39,601.

FINALIST: Will Dantzler

A lot of what is true for Aidan Mehigan can be said of Will Dantzler, because a lot of what happened last night happened today, with two strong seeds playing a weaker one under the table. If a third strong suit advances tomorrow, the result may be closer than Will would like.

Three more semifinalists next time.
