Preliminaries: Charnsangavej/Dedousis/Greil

Homebase is hosting the creme de la creme
of collegians as once again, 15 of the nation's best and brightest come
together to face the ultimate trivial challenge, facing off against each
other and the big board for up to $100,000.
Only nine of them will be invited to
return next week, however, the five winners this week and four wild card
top-scorers.
Another standard two-week affair awaits with an minimum guarantee of
$50,000 for second place and $25,000 for third.
Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists
are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning
accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.
So far, Laura Myers of Mizzou, Scott Menke of John Hopkins,
and Greg Lichtenstein of Vassar are on their way to the semis. By the
end of the night, we will know who definitely will NOT join them. But
let's talk about these three...

Correct response: who is Plato?
Erica's response: who was Plato? CORRECT. Wager:
$10,047. Total: $21,647.
Larissa's response: who is Plato? CORRECT. Wager: $1000. Total:
$14,400.
Anthony's response: who is Socrates? WRONG.
Wager: $5401. Total: $8199.
SEMIFINALIST:
Erica Greil
One player needed to bet
just enough to clinch a wild-card spot. Another needed to bet to win.
Two correct strategies followed by incorrect people, as Erica finds her
way through the easy route to the semifinal. Also as a result, Larissa
is on the bubble along with Courtney from Tuesday's show
($10,000) when she had what it took to go directly to the semifinals.
Eric Betts ($15,000) and Mark Petterson ($16,200), as expected, will be
back next week. But who will join them? That question will be
answered... tomorrow.
