Preliminaries: Betts/Browning/Lichtenstein
May 6

Homebase is hosting the creme de la creme of collegians as once again, 15 of the nation's best and brightest come together to face the ultimate trivial challenge, facing off against each other and the big board for up to $100,000.

Only nine of them will be invited to return next week, however, the five winners this week and four wild card top-scorers.

Another standard two-week affair awaits with an minimum guarantee of $50,000 for second place and $25,000 for third.

Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

So far, Laura Myers of Mizzou and Scott Menke of John Hopkins will meet the winner of today's match...

He tries to get back into this with a $3000 on this: Thackeray took a lot of "pride" in this novel; it was his first major work published under his own name. "What is 'Vanity Fair'?" Correct for $12,400!

Daily Double #2: $1200 Bodies of Water. Greg goes for the trifecta with $15,200 against Elyssa's $12,000 and Eric's $14,600. He wagers $3000 on this: this river carries more water than the Mississippi, Yangtze & Nile combined. "What is the Amazon?" Good for $18,200!

Props to Greg for a late-round comeback. And also props to Eric for knowing how to play the meta-game. Remember, half of Jeopardy! is about knowledge. The other half is strategy. Eric knows that the point of this week is to make it to next week. Imagine what he'll know once he gets there.

Preliminary action continues from Sony tomorrow.
