Four Chefs Compete
July 27
Last week, Ben didn't get
eliminated, but the way sous-chef Scott handed his butt
to him, he might as well have. Meanwhile, a budding
romance continued to blossom between Holli and Jay,
Jason was eliminated on the back of a bad performance,
and Autumn... well she's still here. But no one star is
emerging as of yet. Will that change tonight?
Back at the dorm... it's
the men versus the women in a supposed battle of the
machismo...
That doesn't spill over
to the next morning, as Chef Ramsay roasts a beautiful
monkfish with roasted potatoes. Hope you're enjoying
that. More importantly, we hope you're paying attention,
because guess what, you're about to teach four bachelors
with ZERO cooking experience how to make that same dish.
And you can only use
verbal cues. And you have 30 minutes. Let's see what
kind of damage you eight can do. And after watching the
first five minutes of the challenge... I wish I didn't
use the word "damage". Holli tries to reach her student
by... being a bit of a tart. Jay... isn't that worried.
Autumn says she's very verbal and that she can
communicate well. Ben loves teaching new people, but the
thing he has problems with is breaking it down into
terms that a six-year-old can understand.
First: Autumn & her
student Neil. They had a hard time butchering the
monkfish. The taste is nice, but it's missing a great
deal of the monkfish. Next, Jay & Rick. Presentation is
superb. The fish is cooked perfectly. So far, they're
the leaders. What about Benjamin & Steve? Peppers are
almost raw, while the pancetta's burnt. Finally, Chris &
Holli. Chris' fish is "made with love". Very much
delicious. So it's Jay versus Holli. Who takes it? The
winner... JAY & RICK!
The reward for Jay...
he's going to have to wait for that. But he has a choice
in the matter in who to take with him. And it's Holli.
The punishment for the
others: sprucing up the place. It's maintenance day
after all. And after that, prep because Hell's Kitchen
is opening tonight.
The bachelors, meanwhile,
get a copy of Ramsay's new book.
Jay feels bad for Ben for
having to leave him with Autumn for the day.
So where are Jay and
Holli going for the day? How about a trip in the
Goodyear blimp? Just for funsies, they take a ride over
the studios that house Hell's Kitchen.
Half an hour before
opening, Jay & Holli finally get ready to work, but
they're not exactly welcomed as heroes. Ramsay's
expecting everything to go as smooth as possible. He's
still looking for his diamond in the rough. Meanwhile,
he's going to do something he's NEVER done in Hell's
Kitchen. He's going to allow the four chefs to determine
their own destiny as to who works where. Apps, fish,
garnish, meat. Play to your strengths. Holli takes fish.
Autumn takes garnish. Ben takes meat, while Jay goes
with apps.
OPEN HELL'S KITCHEN!
DINNER SERVICE
And we start with zero gusto. Come on,
people. Autumn starts by prematurely taking Holli's fish. Jay's ready
with his first risotto. First it was underseasoned... now it's
overseasoned. Holli's sauteed scallops... perfectly. Thanks to those
two, diners are enjoying apps. A wave has started... But it can't last
forever.
Jay's having no trouble getting food
up... whether it's needed or not.
Forty five minutes in, and the dining
room is moving smoothly. Benjamin ... is in his own little world. As
usual. Ramsay is losing his patience with his silence. Autumn is ready
with her garnish... but Ramsay's not ready to serve it. Twice.
Ninety minutes in, and Holli's problems
in fish is slowing the kitchen. Autumn is having trouble holding it
together. Ben's wellington is falling apart at the station... and so is
he. Jay is stepping up his role as a leader. On the back of that, the
kitchen starts coming together and acting like a team now. Food is
flying out and staying out for the first time.
LAST TICKET! MAKE IT HAPPEN! And... DONE!
Exactly what we're looking for. Clear down... get desserts ready.
And the check... and the reality check:
someone still has to go home. Jay has the responsibility for making that
happen. Ramsay warns that it's not going to be easy. He has to choose
among his best friend, his girlfriend, and Autumn.
Autumn was easy. Ben says that he had
perfect services, while Jay says that he doesn't respect Holli as a
cook.
ELIMINATION
Jay nominates Autumn for having rough
services and Ben for being "the greater of two evils." Benjamin says
that he has experience and passion. He wants to pass that communication
hurdle. Autumn fought through all of her obstacles, and she's capable of
running the grill at the Savoy.
Ramsay says... AUTUMN ... is going back
in line. Benjamin... is also going back to the line. He can't cut EITHER
of them. Instead, he brings out a group of loved ones for each chef to
spend some quality.
So on the back of the best performance
this year, all four chefs will return next week. But that doesn't change
the fact that Chef Ramsay can only and ultimately choose ONE.
"I decided to let all the chefs enjoy
tonight's successful dinner service, but what they don't know is after
the next dinner service, I'll be cutting the field in half."
Next week, it's the return of a Hell's
Kitchen classic...
