"Northwest Region" -
January 21
Gary Cooper got to go North By Northwest the hard way.
We will be doing this a little easier, as we see the
Northwest Region. Mr. David, Mrs. O'Neal and Mr. Rollins
will be joining us, as will these 6 people -
Bob Su (Seattle, Washington) - We have our first
Asian (or maybe Pacific Islander) joining us as he
spiels from Spinal Tap.
Tony Kay (Seattle) - He has a scraggly beard with
glasses, and he says that his earliest childhood memory
was watching The Mummy - with his mummy. Gah.
Vince Keenen (Seattle) - We have another guy in
glasses (who looks like a much shorter Ivan Reitman)
dreams in Technicolor, Surround Sound - and Letterbox.
I'm dreaming of a Round 1 Exit.
Tom Tengi (Seattle, Washington - is there anyone
from the Northwest who's into films and NOT from
Seattle?) - He looks like a cross between Christopher
Lloyd and Beeker from the Muppet Show and he can recite
every line in Monty Python and the Holy Grail -
backwards. Coffee. Much. Too.
Bob Bovan (Kent, Washington - FINALLY someone
who's not from Seattle) - He's very short and looks like
EX Game Show Network Producer Bob Boden. He tells
everyone to be scared of him and he talks like Yoda.
Maybe that IS Bob Boden.
George Trementedis (Seattle - Oh, we're back
THERE again) - His two favorite cultural icons are the
Godfather - and Tommy Boy.
We'll be getting rid of at least two people from Seattle
as we start The First Cut. The categories are Chick
Flicks, Couples Who Kill and Movies with (Base)Balls.
George and Bob Bovan decide to get ballsy with baseball
movies.
George - What star of The Flintstones also played Babe
Ruth in The Babe?
Right Answer - John Goodman
George's Answer - John Goodman
Bob - Who directed Eight Men Out?
Right Answer - George Sayles
Bob's Answer - Barry Levinson
Well, we didn't get enough time to be scared of Mr.
Bovan, who can now go back and direct things - like
directing the bus driver on how to get him home. That
also now means that someone from Seattle will win it
this week.
We get Tom and Vince up next, and the new category it
Crooked Politicians. The couple of contestants want
Couples That Kill.
Tom - What Killer couple was played by Warren Beatty and
Faye Dunaway?

Honor?

American girlfriend?

and the comedian who played Juliette Lewis's dad.

Right Answer - Jennifer Tilly and Tiffany
Vince's Answer - Jennifer Tilly and Tiffany
Tom - Who played the girl opposite Gil Bellows in Love &
a .45?
Right Answer - Renee Zellweger
Tom's Answer - Ally McBeal
Not even a good guess on Tom's part knocks him out, as
Vince survives a tough opening challenge. Can Bob and
Tony keep up such a challenge with Jackie Chan? No, as
they decide on Chick Flicks.
Tony - In what 1991 movie did Susan Sarandon and Geena
Davis drive off a cliff?

Floats?

Bob - In Beauty and the Beast, who voiced the teapot,
the clock and the candlestick?
Right Answer - Angela Lansbury, David Ogden Stiers and
Jerry Orbach
Bob's Answer - Jerry Orbach and.....I don't know.
The Bob's are 0-2 for getting out of the first round as
it's Su you later for Bob Su. The three people left will
now get to go on The Great Debate, as Vince and Tony
start it off. The subject is Kevin Costner -
Vince - When he gets the right part, he knocks it out of
the park - he's great.
Tony - He is the most limited American actor in
mainstream actor. He has the head of a potato and an
acting talent to match.
Vince says that he can direct himself well as a
historical character. Tony says that the movie is
bloated - and so is his acting. I thought both arguments
were good. The judges take on Costner?
Keith - Tony
Tatum hates Kevin, but she thought Kevin was too
insultish and votes for Vince
Henry likes the debate, but thought that Kevin didn't
attack Costner's acting, so he goes for Vince.
Vince advances, so we see George play Tony on... Robert
Zemeckis.
Tony - Once again the hater, as there is no heart in his
movies.
George - Douglas got his best performance in Romancing
the Stone (Wha?) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a
classic (WHA?)
Both people harp again on Zemeckis, and this time, Tony
went after the films and not personal attacks on the
director or his opponent. I think this time, he wins.
Judges?
Henry - Tony had a devastating argument
Tatum - Tony, since George killed himself with Romancing
the Stone and Roger Rabbit
Keith - would have voted for George, but the lone vote
doesn't count.
Tony redeems himself and can now get some revenge on
Vince, as they play the Obsession round.
Round 1 -
Tony - Tony gets a movie poster of an Mexican Children's
Film and horror movies, including Santa Claus getting
fairy dust to battle Satan.
Vince - created a website of every movie that he has
seen and posts up commentary on films and on the Movie
Fanatic contest
Gee, I wonder if Vince will win this one. Surprisingly,
he doesn't. Tony wins it, due to his fanaticism.
Round 2 -
Vince - his first movie key, as he discusses his
experiences as a movie operator and usher growing up.
Tony - A journal of every horror movie he has ever seen
since he was 8 years old, including symbols of a barf
bag, Mr. Yuk and the 'Z' for the worst horror movies.
Based on the judges ruling on the first round, this has
to go to Tony in a romp. Henry relates to Vince, but
they all go for Tony. With that, Tony does get his
revenge on Vince and wins it 2-0. Tony thanks his wife
who says that he sometimes has a life and he thanks film
for making him who he is today. Ok.
With that, we get away from the horror weirdoes in the
Northwest. Join us in 7 days as we look for weirdoes in
another part of the country. |
