September 8-9 - Round of 3: "Judges' Choice"

This week we've got the judges' choice. What will it be for Jacob, Kalan and Teresa?

First up is Jacob. He's been given "If You Don't Know Me By Now". The judges have chose it for him because he has such a physical presence, and whether he can add his own spin to it. Jacob takes to it with an unusual calmness. It's really, really mellow and actually it doesn't fit him that well.

Jake: If people don't vote for you, they've gotta be crazy.
Farley: I like your understated presentation.

I see Benchat is back. and he and Jacob share a hug.

The second of our trio is Teresa and is singing "What the World Needs Now". It was chosen for her because they say she can show vulnerability and rebound back from it. Teresa puts her usual spunk on it and it seems that it's a good choice on the judges' part. She really plays to the camera - a little more than usual, plus she really belts out the high notes.

Sass: To use the quote of my esteemed colleague Zack Werner, "good on ya"
Zack: You've gotta show people why you're the one! I didn't get it at all.

In Benchat, Ben makes a non-sensical comment. Quelle surprise!

If you've been keeping count, you realize that Kalan is next. He's got "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It was chosen so that he can open that "big voice of his". It seems that it is a good pick - Kalan takes to it like a horse does to a water or like I do to chocolate: with a great enthusiasm. It's not perfectly Bono, but it'll do.

Sass: That's another reason why you're cruising towards the crown.
Jake: I was worried you weren't going to get the emotion. but we did.

At Benchat world, he fawns over Kalan. Ben. can you do without the teleprompter??

We're back with Jacob. He gets "I Want You to Want Me". The choice has been made because among others, Jake says the boy craves attention. Hmm. Tell me something I DON'T already know. Jacob does the job very well as always, but I wonder if his stylings are growing to the end? He does lead the crowd in a clapping sequence as well as adopting the Alanis Morrisette T hand shaking.

Sass: You're my favourite Mexican jumping bean.
Zack: That killed!

Benchat again made no sense.

After the break... we meet Ben's parents? I should explain that his father was Prime Minister of Canada (C-Note: "Who is Brian Mulroney?") for eight years. And then we meet Jon's parents. They have a little "family feud" going on. Jon states his dad is invisible. Righty-o.

Teresa's second song is "Ready for Love" and it has been chose for her because it allows for her not to be pigeon-holed. She sits on one of the Idol stools to sing it and it's so smooth you can't even imagine.  When she makes a record, I would hope that this song is on it.

Jake: You proved once again that nobody can captivate like you can.
Farley: The wonderful thing about you is that you're so wonderful in the first person.

Benbot mentions that he doesn't have to say anything. THANK YOU. Somebody likes me.

Last up is Kalan. They want to give him a challenge so they've given him "Nature Boy". Huh? I don't really what to make of it, but I'll give him something: he can tell a story very well in his singing.

Farley: Okay. Here's the deal. I'm so proud of you.
Zack: I'm voting for all three of them!

Ben again says nothing more. Somebody REALLY LIKES ME.

RESULTS

Continuing in the way of bringing back last year's cast, one by one, so that we can fill time in these one hour shows, it's time to listen to Audrey de Montigny.

Now, I met her last year and she really liked my sign ("Le fabuleux destin d'Audrey de Montigny - a takeoff on the French language title of "Amelie") so I'm partial to her. But in any case she does about as good as everyone else from last year's cast does: just okay.  Especially because she's singing in English. But kids, she gets to talk to Ben. Lucky her!

We get to see Jacob, Kalan and Teresa back in their hometowns promoting the heck out of their local CTV affiliates. Teresa was the most shocked I do believe! She went back to her old elementary school and practically everyone was crying their eyes out. Following this, back on the stage, we get to see the medley.

All three do a final song, and then we discover that Jacob Hoggard, Mr. Original, is departing. He definitely has had a fun time! He sings an Aerosmith tune to finish the night out.

NEXT TIME: The finale!
