I Want to Be in the
Circus, That's Where I Belong! Last time, we left the bitter cold for the bitter... cold, trading in Norway for Russia. After deciphering movies.... and music... and the way of the babushka... Nick & Vicki (Team Ick) are in dead last, having survived an NEL in order to take on a Speed Bump. Meanwhile, we continue the Race in Russia with Jill & Thomas (Team I'M Right!) at... PIT
STOP Here's your first clue...
Five minutes later, Brook & Claire (Team HSN) head out, followed by Michael & Kevin (WuTubers), and... another equalizer! All the teams arrive before the circus even opens! That can only mean one thing... once the gates do open, it's a mad dash to...
Jill & Thomas start spinning plates, as do Michael & Kevin ... and Brook & Claire.... and Chad & Stephanie... and Nick & Vicki. Meanwhile, Nat & Kat decide to get in touch with their inner accordionist. It's a slow and steady process. Meanwhile, Gary & Mallory are musical as well... Mallory more so than Gary. And just because we can, here's a bear drinking a Coke. Jill & Doubting Thomas decide to forego the plates for accordions. Brook & Claire are the first to pop open this clue after spinning their plates.
Nat & Kat finish their jam session and head to the bridge, as do Gary & Mallory. Chad & Stephanie also lane-switch. Meanwhile, Nick & Vicki head out with another successful task under their wings. Meanwhile, back in our round of "Accordion Hero", there are apparently three songs that blend into one song that all the teams have to learn. After this, you're probably BEGGING for plate-spinning. WuTubers are outta here... but their cabbie knows where they're headed... So do Brook & Claire's, as they pick this up...
Chad & Stephanie finally come up with a code of sequence for learning how to play the accordion... and it pays off. For Jill & Thomas... not so much. They're going back to the plates. Chad & Stephanie head to the bridge, Stephanie proud of Chad. Meanwhile, our intrepid group of crazy Americans are walking the streets of St. Petersburg looking for the tower, as Jill & Thomas FINALLY escape the circus. Nat & Kat and Nick & Vicki form an alliance of rhyming Racers to head to the top of the wall to look for the church. Kevin learns the hard way that the clue strictly forbade the use of cab assistance to get to the tower. D'oh! Meanwhile, at the top of the wall, Nick tries to play with the other teams... and that doesn't work. HSN and the WuTubers head to the church, thinking that the WuTubers may just have to eat the penalty. Meanwhile, Mallory and Thomas play like most the teams do and completely miss the clue until it hits them over the head. Once the teams do get the clue...
HSN and the WuTubers confront the Icks on their "DS13" lie. Once they're done, they look for the fortress... Chad & Stephanie finally find the tower. But can they find the building? Nat & Kat can... But the Icks... can't. Because their cabbie is gone. Meanwhile, Brook & Claire find out that they need to go back to the towers and walk to the church. Nat & Kat are the first to the fortress... fair & square, mind you... and get this...
What our teams don't know is that the game is gorodki, a form of bowling that involves small pins and a huge stick. They'll have to clear THREE pin formations in order to move on. But if they can't do it in two moves, they'll have to reset and try again. Nat will try first. Meanwhile, Nick & Vicki... finally find a cab. So do Brook & Claire... only after going BACK to the tower and proceeding en route per the clue. Michael will swing for the fences on the gorodki courts, as will Brook. Just as Nat finishes the Roadblock!
PIT
STOP First on the mat are Rhyming Docs Nat & Kat, who will receive for their troubles... $5000 CASH MONEY! Brook & Claire are the second to finish the Roadblock, while Michael's still trying to find his swinging arm. Chad & Stephanie and Nick & Vicki head to the Roadblock. Nick and Stephanie will take their aggressions out on the pins. Jill & Thomas arrive, and Thomas opts for the Roadblock. The Icks finish and head to the Pit Stop, while the Icks finishes. They're in... THIRD. Brook & Claire take second. And it's legal and official. Gary crushes the gorodki course, while Michael... finally clears frame 1. Jill & Thomas finish the Roadblock... as do Gary & Mallory... But they beat No I'M Right! for the four-spot. Michael & Kevin FINALLY finish the Roadblock. Meanwhile, the price of not having enough cash money on hand is being felt by the teams as a couple of cabbies are threatening to "hold onto their luggage." And by that, we mean... literally hold onto their luggage. Jill & Thomas learn something else, though... Unwritten Race Law #12: Even if you don't have the local currency, there ain't a damn body who won't take AMERICAN MONEY. They're Team #5. Chad & Stephanie finish the Roadblock. They head to the Pit Stop... but they need to pay their cabbie and get their bags before checking in. Michael & Kevin arrive at the Pit Stop... BUT due to the TWO blunders involving cabs, they are assessed two 30-minute penalties to be served together... RIGHT NOW. If Chad & Stephanie return with their bags in that hour, the WuTubers will be eliminated... if this is indeed an EL. Chad & Stephanie... ALSO took a taxi to the church and must wait 30 minutes. HOWEVER, because of Michael & Kevin's penalty, their time will be affixed to the start of the next leg. Confused? Me too. Simply put, the WuTubers are eliminated from the Race. They came a long way and when they get home, they'll have something interesting to vlog about. They will no doubt treasure this time they had together, as they grow closer as father and son... (C-NOTE: You might have noticed that there was no Speed Bump in this leg. This from the AR Wikipedia article: "Following the broadcast of episode 7, a source close to the show's production team revealed that Nick & Vicki's Speed Bump in Leg 7 was waived, and that everyone's placement was equalized at the Detour, in compensation for various production difficulties in the previous leg affecting all of the teams. One of the problems involved the judge at the Classical Music Detour; he made an erroneous call that caused Nick & Vicki to spend more time at the task than they needed to.")
