Looking into the Crystal Ball - December 26

Christmas is over, and 2006 is just about over. 2007 looms and no one really knows what's going to happen? I mean, at this time last year, we were lamenting about how bad Howie Mandel was as host of Deal or No Deal, and worried if Carrie Underwood would do well in her record sales. Who knew?

So, without further ado...here are my Kreskin like predictions of what I think will or won’t happen in 2007. We can come back in about a year from now and see what happens.

–I said it on WLTI and I will say it here. Jennifer Hudson will be the first American Idol contestant to win an Oscar. Critics have been calling her performance as Effie in “Dreamgirls” nothing short of miraculous. Simon Cowell and Nigel Lythgoe will be laughing all the way to the bank.

–Speaking of American Idol–Season 6 will top Season 5 for both talent and ratings. And here’s a total stab in the dark here. We are going to have our first Hispanic winner and he or she will be from New York City.

–Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy will continue to be solid performers throughout 2007. I don’t see anything too shocking accept adjustments and tweaks to make the show even better than they are.

–Here is what I think will be the biggest shocker of 2007. By the end of 2007, Bob Barker will be back hosting The Price is Right. My reasoning? The person who fills the spot will not be as successful ratings wise or be as big a revenue generator. The suits will beg Barker to come back, and he will do so.

–Both the Amazing Race and Survivor will not come back after their runs end in May. The ratings have been stagnant in both shows, and the fans are tired of both of them.

–Meredith Vieira will sign a contract extension to do Millionaire after her contract expires after the 2007-2008 season. The ratings explosion will fuel a nice raise too.

–There will be no good interactive show in 2007. We will still have to deal with the craptacularity of “My Games Fever” et al.

–Name That Tune with Donny Osmond–ratings bomb.

–Poker shows will shows signs of flatlining and stagnation in 2007, with some of the shows being cancelled. However, I think we will see a $100,000,000 pot this coming summer for the main event of the 2007 World Series of Poker.

–There will be even more live events around the country where people will be allowed to play their favorite game shows live. I believe we will see the debut of one, possibly two new live casino shows.

–No one will find love on TV. No dating show will be successful in finding romance.

–Dancing with the Stars 4 will be even better. Will Cheryl Burke, tough as she is be dethroned? If a male celeb wins, then yes.

–All the niche shows, such as “Project Runway”, “Top Chef,” and the “Next Food Network Star” will continue to grow in ratings.

–The Ultimate Fighter 5 will continue to have hot ratings. With the growth of MMA, this show has no signs of slowing down.

–GSN will have a nice year of growth–due to the introduction of more original programming in both documentary and game shows. One of the shows will be a breakout hit.

–Harry Friedman’s double shot of Joker’s Wild/Combination Lock WILL get off the ground–and will both be hits.

–Family Feud will be back for another year with John O’ Hurley hosting.

And finally, I predict that you the game show/reality fan are in for a real treat. 2007 looks to be a banner year for the viewer. Don’t drink and drive...stay safe, and I will see you in 2007!
