"Round 1: LeDonne/Williams/Veach" - March 4

In round one, there are 135 players competing in 45 games. The winners of those games will take on nine seeded opponents. The 18 winners then face off for six slots. The two winners of those semifinal games have a date with destiny in the form of one Ken Jennings for a three-day final. The winner of those games wins $2 million. Second place is guaranteed $500,000, while third place is guaranteed $250,000.

No wild cards, no second chances. It's (my favorite words when it comes to Jeopardy! tourneys) win or go home.

Jeopardy! categories: Mythology; Sports Notables; Canada, "A"?; A Heavenly Category; First Lady Firsts; ____&____

Daily Double: $600 Mythology. Grace ($2000 over John's $600 and Keith's $0) fronts it all. The clue: Hera punished this nymph by saying that she shall have the last word but no power to speak first. Grace's response: "Who is Echo?" Correct for the doubler, $4000.

End of Round:
John - $1800
Keith - $6200
Grace - $7600

Double Jeopardy! categories: The Elements, Broadway Musical Settings, Farming Math, "F"ood Word Origins, Novels Before & After, Words in Shakespeare.

Daily Double #1: $1200 Broadway Musical Settings. Keith ($7800 over Grace's $7600 and John's $1800) goes only $600 ("I'm not going to lie, I know absolutely nothing about musicals."). Clue: Shubert Alley is the setting for both the opening & closing scenes of this smash hit that debuted in 2001. Keith's guess: "What is 'Stomp'?" Correct: What is "The Producers"? "Told ya." Keith drops to $7200 and second place.

Keith makes up for it by running the table on Farming Math in time to find...

Daily Double #2: $800 The Elements. Keith ($12,800 to Grace's $7600 and John's $1800) bets $4000. Clue: the 2 radioactive elements named after planets that follow uranium on the periodic table. Keith's guess: "What are neptunium and plutonium?" Correct for $16,800.

End of Round:
John - $6200
Keith - $23,600
Grace - $13,200

The kid is schooling the grown-ups, but anything can still happen. Remember, runners-up will take home $5000, while the winner is guaranteed at least $15,000.

Final Jeopardy! Category: US Islands. Answer: Dutch for either "Devil's Whirlpool" or "Spite the Devil", Spuyten Duyvil Creek forms part of its northern border. Correct response: What is Manhattan?

John's question: What is US Virgin? (WRONG) Wager: $6200. Final score: $0.
Grace's question: What is Manhattan? (RIGHT) Wager: $13,000. Final score: $26,200.
Keith's question: What is New York? (WRONG) Wager: $10,000. Final score: $13,600.

Shocker! Grace pulls the upset in Final Jeopardy!, winning $26,200 and joining Eric Terzuolo, Michael Rankins, Arthur Phillips, David Traini, Bob Harris, Vinita Kailasanath, Bev Schwartzberg, Dan Melia, Mark Eckard, Michael Dupee, Jeff Richmond, John Beck, Tad Carithers, Jerome Vered, Bruce Borchardt, Fred Ramen, and Ed Schiffer in the next round.

Next time, John Kelly, Barbara-Anne Eddy, and Ryan Holznagel begin another week of competition.
