Today is

"Episode 1.8" - August 21

We've got a one-hour season ender. Will the champ win $50,000, or is it back to "Sweet Home Alabama"?

Round 1:

- 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "The Time Warp."
Band: "It's just a jump to the left / And then a step to the right / And with your hands on your hips / You bring your knees in tight / It's just a pelvic thrust that really drives you insane."
#4: "Let's do the time warp again!" RIGHT!

- 1969, The Archies, "Sugar Sugar"
Band: "Sugar / Aww honey honey..."
#189: "You are my candy girl." RIGHT!

One more...

- 1997, Third Eye Blind, "Semi-Charmed Life"
Band: "I want something else / To get me through this / Semi-charmed kind of life, baby baby / I want something else... "
#191: "I'm not listenin' when you say, goodbye!" That's three!

Round 2, Lyrics Scramble:

We have a three-way with #4 Jeremy (Jersey; computer animator), #189 Ashley (Oklahoma City; tool salesperson), and #191 Marco (Pittsburgh; has Wilco and My Morning Jacket in his iPod).

- 1986, Beastie Boys, "Fight For Your Right" (of jerk some your but class you're teacher like kind peaches)
Jeremy: "But your teacher preaches class like he's some kind of jerk!" Right!

- 1969, The Rolling Stones, "Honky Tonk Woman" (ya just my drink 'cause off to I mind can't seem)
Ashley: "Just mind my drink 'cause..." Nope, "'Cause I can't seem to drink ya off of my mind."

- 1995, Goo Goo Dolls, "Name" (And your one won't name no I tell)
Marco: "And I won't tell no one your name." Right!

New round...

- 1983, Madonna, "Borderline" (you over pushin' keep love the borderline just my on)
Jeremy: "You just keep on pushing me..." Woops! "... my love over the borderline."

Marco needs to get this right to move to the final.

- 1993, Melissa Etheridge, "Come to My Window" (the moonlight of crawl inside by the wait)
Marco: "I'll be waiting..." The words are on the screen! Correct: "Crawl inside, wait by the light of the moon."

- 1996, The Wallflowers.

Marco fires. He passes. The song is "One Headlight."

Jeremy: "But I never thought that you would be gone." WRONG! Marco moves on! "I wondered why she hung around this place."

But who will Marco face? Time to bee all over again. But first, Monica has a chance to win $500. According to the lyrics in the classic Motown song "War" by Edwin Starr, "War... What is it good for?"

Monica: "Absolutely nothing." That's $500.

"What I like about you?" How about another shot to play the game?

Round 1:

- 1998, Barenaked Ladies, "One Week"
Band: "It's been one week since you looked at me / Cocked your head to the side and said I'm angry / Five days since you laughed at me / saying get back together...."
#69: "Come back and see me." RIGHT!

- 1960, Brian Hyland, "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini"
Band: "2, 3, 4, tell the people what she wore / She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka-dot bikini..."
#14: "That she wore for the first time today." RIGHT!

One more...

- 1975, Abba, "Mamma Mia"
Band: "Just one look and I can hear a bell ring / One more look and I forget everything / Oh-oh... /  Mamma mia..."
#163: "I don't know it." At least your honest.
#31: "Wish I knew the words." Such honesty.
#127: "You really wanna see ya..." Geez...
#135: "Here I go again!" And here we go again!

Round 2, Karaoke Showdown:

Next up, it's #69 Emily (Michigan; office assistant), #14 Erin (Los Alamitos, CA); #135 Cara (Santa Ana, CA; line-dance teacher).

- 1972, Bill Withers, "Lean On Me"
Emily gets 14 words for 14 points.

- 1977, Bee Gees, "Stayin' Alive"
Erin gets 10. Emily's still the one to beat.

- 1968, Steppenwolf, "Magic Carpet Ride"
Cara... kills it. Dead. She only gets 5. Emily will face Marco in the final...

But first, another $500 to give out. Steve Connors, your question to give out... according to the lyrics in "Jumpin' Jack Flash", Mick Jagger was "born in a cross-fire hurricane" and he "howled at his ma in the driving rain." He's a "Jumping Jack Flash" and he's a what what what? "Gas, gas, gas." That works!

Round 3, Sing the chorus:

Marco is first...

- 1978, Kenny Rogers, "The Gambler"
Marco: "Know when to hold'em." BZZZZ! Forgot "You got to know when to..." yeah.

Emily needs to get this right to win.

- 1989, Billy Joel, "We Didn't Start the Fire"
Emily: "We didn't start the fire / It was always burning since the world's been turning / We didn't start the fire / Though we didn't fight it..." Correct: "No we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it."

Marco's back...

- 1982, Asia, "Heat of the Moment"
Marco: "'Cause it was the heat of the moment"... Didn't need 'cause.

Emily needs this to win.

- 1974, Cat Stevens, "Another Saturday Night"
Emily: "If you like pina coladas." Not even the right song. It was "Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody", etc. etc...

Another tiebreaker. This one is 1963, The Drifters.

Emily fires... and passes. Marco. The song is "On Broadway."

Band: "They say that I won't last for long on Broadway / Catch a Greyhound bus for home, they all say / They're dead wrong, I know they are..."
Marco: "... The neon lights are..." No! "'Cause I can play this hear guitar" is right. Emily is the Singing Bee champion!

And that entitles her to play for $50,000 in... The Final Countdown...

Ray: "It's the Final Countdown!"

Loud as Ray's jacket. Seven songs, seven missing phrases. For each one you get right, you get $5000. Get five, and you just made $50,000 cash money. Get a song wrong, it's a strike. Three of them and Emily leaves with whatever she got.

Song #1: "This time before you run to her / Leavin' me alone and hurt / After I've been good to you / After I've been sweet to you / Stop in the name of love..."

Emily: "Before you break my heart." That's one!

(1965, The Supremes, "Stop in the Name of Love")
Song #2: "Oh yes it's ladies night / And the feeling's right / Oh yes it's ladies night..."

Emily: "Oh what a night." Two down, three to go.

(1979, Kool & the Gang, "Ladies Night")

Song #3: "American woman / Stay away from me / American woman / Mama let me be / Don't come hanging around my door..."

Emily: "Don't want to see your face no more." It was "I don't want" etc.

(1970, The Guess Who, "American Woman")
$10,000 X
Song #4: "You know that it would be untrue / You know that I would be a liar / If I was to say to you..."

Emily: "Come on baby, light my fire." Jumped a line. It was "Girl we couldn't get much higher."

(1967, the Doors, "Light My Fire")
$10,000 X X
Song #5: "I know a place where we can dance the whole night away / Underneath electric stars / Just come with me and we can shake your blues right away..."

Emily: "We'll be dancing on 'til the music stops." Apt. It was "You'll be doing fine once the music starts."

(1985, Debarge, "Rhythm of the Night")

$10,000 X X X

But at least she's got $10,000 for her time. Until next, take us out Ray.
