Finals: Kelly/Schroeder/Pawson - Part 1

The familiar phrase goes "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", but when you're sitting at a high-tech version of a final table in the International Consumer Electronics Show, with the eyes of a nation upon you, it'll be a bit hard to keep that saying true.

The cream has risen to the top as the longest-serving champion Dan Pawson and the winningest champion Larissa Kelly go up against the veritable Cinderella story Aaron Schroeder. One of them is going to win $50,000. Another still, $100,000. But the player who has the most money at the end of the two-part finale... they get a quarter of a million dollars and the title of Jeopardy! Grand Champion.

At this crucial juncture of the game, it's all about two things... How bad do you want it... and how good do you think you are?

Part one begins... NOW.

A little trivia... This is the youngest group of finalists since the show's revival in 1984. The Jeopardy! round...

Daily Double: $800 Musicals by Plot. Larissa finds the clue rather quickly with $800 to Dan's $200. Larissa bets the max of $1000 on this: Charlemagne's son leads a revolution against his dad. "What is Pippin?" Correct for $1800!

Daily Double #1: $1600 Women Authors. Dan has $2800 and second place to Larissa's $7400. Aaron has $2400. Dan goes for broke on this: this Frenchwoman who went by 1 name liked 1-name titled, like "Mitsou" & "Cheri". "Who is Colette?" Correct to double up to $5600!

Dan goes back on the hunt... and then boom.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Born to Run. Dan has managed to pull within striking distance with $7200 to Larissa's $9000. Aaron is currently on $4400. Dan goes quack quack, betting all of $22 on this: the Pre Classic, an Oregon track & field meet, is named for this legendary runner & subject of 2 major movies. "Who is... Zaharias?" Nope, it's Steve Prefontaine, dropping him to $7178.

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! Round...

This is shaping up to be a classic final. The two bookends are battling back and forth, and with each move one gives, the other is willing to give a little more. And with Aaron knowing that he has to crawl back from last place, tomorrow's match is shaping up to be a buzzer battle for the ages.
