Preliminaries: Brandt/Pawson/Peck
March 11
All the drama of a high stakes poker
match.
All the excitement of a big jackpot win.
All the tension of a blackjack double
down...
... and all for $250,000.
Fifteen of the year's best champions have
returned to face each other for bragging rights and the title of
Jeopardy! Grand Champion. The venue: a new high-def, high-tech battle
arena showcased at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las
Vegas.
Only nine will be invited to return next
week to play for one of three slots in the two-day final. Those nine
will include the winners of the five prelims and the four highest
scorers among non-winners... the Wild Cards.
Another standard two-week affair awaits with an minimum guarantee of
$100,000 for second place and $50,000 for third.
Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists
are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning
accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.
But that's further down the line. Right
now, the most important thing is to get to next week... That said, it's
time to go all-in. Bring on the first three!

incorporated to help those in need after a fire blackened the Seattle business
district in 1889. "What is Washington Mutual?" WaMu gives him the lead of $3000!

Daily Double #1: $800 20th Century
Military Names. Dan leads with $6000 to Carl's $5200 and Cora's $4400. He bets
$4000 on this: before he died in 1981, he was the USA's last surviving 5-star
officer. "Who is... Omar Bradley?" .... CORRECT for $10,000! "I'm going to need
a second here."
Daily Double #2: $800 Olympic Facts.
Cora is tied with Carl at $5200, whilst Dan is in the lead with $13,600. She
wagers $2500 on this: he said he threw his 1960 Gold Medal into the Ohio River
after being denied service at a whites-only diner. "Who is Muhammad Ali?" At the
time he was Cassius Clay, but we'll accept it. She's got $7700.

SEMI-FINALIST:
Dan Pawson
Hand it to Dan, as he
knows that the object of this week is to get to next
week. He holds back on a category that he didn't
know much about. He wins this match on the build of
a strong front game and emerges as a serious
contender.
Cora, on the other hand,
had a fair to middling front game and knew she
had to go for it if she's to stand ANY chance of
making it back. With that score, she just might.
Let's see what she does in the next round.
Meanwhile, next time,
two guys go to war with a veritable machine from
season 24.
