They're not old enough to drink, but they're surely old enough to think. Fifteen of the best and brightest high-schoolers have descended upon the Jeopardy! stage to show the world who's got the best mental game. And in the end, one of them will outlast the others for $75,000 and the title of 2008 Jeopardy! Teen Champion, not to mention the bragging rights that go with the title.

This Winter Classic is another standard two-week affair, advancing the winners of this week's games as well as four wild-cards, high scorers among non-winners. All of this week's players will receive $5000, while the semifinalists will be guaranteed $10,000 for their participation.

The first runner-up receives $25,000 at least, while the second runner-up wins at least $15,000. As always, any and all winnings accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

So far, Zia Choudhury and Rachel Horn have assured us that next week will be quite interesting. Who'll be semi-finalist #3?

On the cut today: both of Monday's runners-up. Jeopardy! round...

WHEN THEY WERE TEENS RIGHT ON THE MONEY IT HAPPENS IN FEBRUARY AMERICANA SHORT STORIES A, B, C, D, THEN F

Daily Double: $600 Short Stories. Maria has $400 to Will's $200. Katie is $400 down. Maria bets the max of $1000 on this: this Poe story mentions "a low, dull, quick sound... as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton". "What is 'The Telltale Heart'?" Correct for $1400!

At the end of the Jeopardy! round...

$3,800 $4,400 $3,400
Maria Will Katie

Double Jeopardy! categories:

THE CIVIL WAR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS POTPOURRI OFFICIAL CANADIAN PROVINCE THINGS VERY SUPERSTITIOUS 9-LETTER WORDS

Daily Double #1: $1600 The Civil War. Katie is on a roll with $14,600 to Maria's $9400 and Will's $8000. She bets $2000 on this: this city in northern Virginia was the site of 2 battles known in the North as the Battles of Bull Run. "What is Manassas?" Correct for $16,600!

Daily Double #2: $2000 Official Canadian Province Things. Maria needs to make a move here with $11,400 to Katie's $18,200 and Will's $10,000. She bets the level on this: this province's motto is Je me soviens, "I remember." Maria's kicking herself for not betting more, because she knows "What is Quebec?" for $13,400, where she ends the round.

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! Round...

$13,400 $10,400 $18,200
Maria Will Katie

Final Jeopardy! category: THE ANIMAL WORLD

C. FAMILIARIS, IT HAS ONE OF THE LARGEST SIZE RANGES, FROM A 2-POUND MEXICAN VARIETY TO 200 POUNDERS

Correct response: what is the dog?

Will's response: what is the dog? RIGHT. Wager: $10,400. Total: $20,800
Maria's response: what is the cat? WRONG. Wager: $3500. Total: $9,900.
Katie's response: what is the cat? RIGHT. Wager: $4000. Total: $22,200.

SEMI-FINALIST: Katie Gill.

It seems that Katie was playing the final to "not lose". She needs to get rid of that attitude in time for next week, because, as we've said in the past, if you play to "not lose", then eventually, you will. Will gets props for getting on the board as well, knocking Mollie Haycock out of contention.

Fourth quarterfinal tomorrow.
