Preliminaries: Baybay-Bykov/Edmundson/Montie
November 12

Teachers are the backbone of our American school system. Fifteen of them are particularly strong and gifted. Those 15 were invited to Culver City to take part in the third annual (sort of) Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament. The one that rises to the head of the class will win $100,000 and a guaranteed slot in the next Tournament of Champions.

Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

Only nine of the fifteen that compete week one will be invited to return in week two, however, the five winners this week and four wild card top-scorers.

At the beginning of this game, we have three automatic placers. At the end, that'll grow to six.

Daily Double: $600 Brush Up Your Shakespeare. Marcia has a $400 lead over Brenton, $1800 to $1400. She bets $500 on this: it's the last word spoken by Richard III. "What is adieu?" No, it was "horse", as in "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!" She's down to $1300 at the break.

At the end of Jeopardy!...

Double Jeopardy! round...

"MON" DAY TWO'S DAY HUMP DAY THOR'S DAY FRY DAY WEAK END

Daily Double #1: $1600 Two's Day. Marcia leads with $10,700. She fronts $2000 on this: 83, odd; 937, odd... I guess 2 really is the only even one of these. "What is a prime number?" That's right for $12,700!

Daily Double #2: $1200 Weak End. Brenton has $7000 and is in need of a big move. He bets $3000 for an even 10 Gs. on this: Slate called the last scene of this 2007 Oscar winner based on Cormac McCarthy's novel "a tacked on chunk of meaning". "What is 'No Country for Old Men'?" Correct for $10,000!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!... Tina's playing for a Wild Card slot.

$6,000 $15,100 $17,200

As always, each contestant in the tournament will receive a copy of Educational Insights' "Classroom Jeopardy!" for their schools.

Final Jeopardy! category: NATIONAL SONGS

FIRST PUBLICLY PERFORMED IN 1745, THIS SONG SOMETIMES HAS ITS PRONOUNS CHANGED

Correct response: what is "God Save the Queen/King"?

Tina's response: what is C America? WRONG. Wager: $5000. Total: $1000.
Marcia's response: what is "God Save the Queen"? RIGHT. Wager: $5000. Total: $21,100.
Brenton's response: what is God Save the Queen? RIGHT. Wager: $4000. Total: $21,200.

Semifinalist: Brenton Montie

Holy cow was that a close one. Marcia was leading the charge through the whole game, but a late-game surge in the lower clues gives Brenton enough momentum to carry the day into the Final. Marcia will be handsomely rewarded for her play with a Wild Card spot as well. Joining the two: Michael Farabaugh from day one.

Tomorrow, we will name your final nine.
