Preliminaries: Hines/Liebowitz/Parker
November 8

Teachers are the backbone of our American school system. Fifteen of them are particularly strong and gifted. Those 15 were invited to Culver City to take part in the third annual (sort of) Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament. The one that rises to the head of the class will win $100,000 and a guaranteed slot in the next Tournament of Champions.

Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a player goes.

Only nine of the fifteen that compete week one will be invited to return in week two, however, the five winners this week and four wild card top-scorers.

Colby Burnett is the only one on the honor roll so far, but he's about to get some company.

Daily Double #2: $1600 Russian Novelists. John finds it and can expand on his lead at $13,200. He fronts $2000 on this: from 1945-1953, he was imprisoned in labor camps for writing a letter critical of Stalin. "Who is Solzhenitsyn?" CORRECT for $15,200!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!... The best Francesca can hope for is Wild Card...

Final Jeopardy! category: US CITIES

THE SEAL OF THIS HISTORIC NEW ENGLAND CITY HAS THE PHRASE "WHAT A GLORIOUS MORNING FOR AMERICA" & THE DATE "APRIL 19"

Correct response: what is Lexington, MA?

Francesca's response: what is Boston? WRONG. Wager: $7400. Total: $0.
Terry's response: what is Boston? WRONG. Wager: $4201. Total: $6799.
John's response: what is Plymouth? WRONG. Wager; $6801. Total: $8399.

Semifinalist: John Hines

Save for a Final Jeopardy! freezeout, it was all John all the time. Terry and him went back and forth, but ultimately John had the luck to find Daily Doubles to put him ahead.

Who'll join him? Stay tuned.
