Preliminaries: Burnett/Farabaugh/North
November 7
Teachers are the backbone of our American
school system. Fifteen of them are particularly strong and gifted. Those
15 were invited to Culver City to take part in the third annual (sort
of) Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament. The one that rises to the head of the
class will win $100,000 and a guaranteed
slot in the next Tournament of Champions.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while third will get $25,000 in a
standard two-week event. Semifinalists are guaranteed at least $10,000,
while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000 for participation. As
always, any and all winning accrued depends on how far up the ladder a
player goes.
Only nine of the fifteen that compete week one will be invited to return
in week two, however, the five winners this week and four wild card
top-scorers.
Class is in session.

Daily Double: $600 US Geography. Way
too early in the game to be of any use, but Colby bets the max of $1000 on this:
the Sakonnet, Seekonk & Providence Rivers are saltwater arms of this bay. "What
is the Narragansett Bay?" CORRECT for $1600!

Michael has $4800. He bets $4000 on this: this German composer married Franz
Liszt's daughter Cosima, 24 years his junior. "Who is Wagner?" That's right for
$8800!
Daily Double #2: $1200 The 1980's,
Quick! Colby is up over $10,000 at $10,400. He fronts $2200 on this: with US
help in 1983, Sir Paul Scoon returned to power in this island nation. "What is
Grenada?" Correct for $12,600!

REFERRING TO ITS

Correct response: what is
"Waiting for Godot"?
Diana's response: what is "Waitin for Godot"? ... WRONG. Forgot the G. Wager: $3800. Total: $10,000.
Michael's response: what is "Waiting for Godot"? CORRECT. Wager: $4000.
Total: $18,000.
Colby's response: what Waiting for Godot? CORRECT. Wager doesn't matter.
Semifinalist: Colby Burnett
Colby was on point all game
long, and that allowed him to dictate the flow of the match. After a
brief scare from Michael in the middle of the Double Jeopardy! round,
this one went the way of the Chicagoland teacher. I would not count out
Michael as a wild card contender.
Who'll join him? Stay tuned.
