If at first you don't
succeed.... - March 26
If you were wondering where the 7 couples were last
week, it was scoring below 20 because of the average
and ugly moves seen by the judges. That's about to
change as our 11 couples still standing master the
mambo and the quickstep, and if 1 couple can't make up
any lost time, they got to move out by tomorrow. The
stars bring out their partners as they always do and
we're ready to start.
Leading off is Apolo & Julianne. They skated to a tie
for 3rd place, now they must quickstep to "2 Hearts"
by Phil Collins. Both did an arm-in-arm move, followed
by flick bounces, a jump hurdle and a foot drag by
Julianne. Now we get first glance at the judges.
Carrie Ann said the whole footwork was good, Len said
they'll stay for weeks and weeks, and Bruno said it
was so uplifting. Now the numbers:
CARRIE ANN: 8
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Last week: 21
Week 2: 26
Overall Score: 47
And up second is Shandi & Brian. Last week's comments
by Bruno can erase this week that a better score has
no time going to a toy store. As they mambo, Shandi
did a split. a back bend to the floor, some arm moves,
and a dip over Brian to end it. How did that go?
Carrie Ann said it wasn't anything special, Len said
it was very difficult choreography and Bruno said she
needs to forget about Barbie and turn into a brat. Oh
well, I guess it's the toy store. Numbers, please....
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Last Week: 19
Week 2: 20
Overall Score: 39
Now up is Clyde & Elena. They practiced at a
basketball court to show him why he's a pro, not a joe.
Now they'll quickstep to "higher & Higher" by Jackie
Wilson. Clyde does a running start and both did flick
bounces. Elena did a floor spin and put his hands up
to see if he's done. Now it's done. To the
judges...Carrie Ann said it was a crowd-pleaser, Len
said it was a case of "we shall overcome," and Bruno
said it was better than Goliath. Let's throw the sling
shot at the scoreboard:
CARRIE ANN: 6
LEN: 6
BRUNO: 6
Last week: 16
Week 2: 18
Overall Score: 34
We're ready for Leeza & Tony. With a 2nd worse score,
a milestone made her feel better. As she celebrated
50, she took a cue from "My Super Sweet 16" and turned
it into a "goddess party." Now they'll celebrate live
my doing a mambo to "Independent Women, Pt. 1" by
Destiny's Child. Leeza does a leg hold, a split a few
twirls and a back dip to end it. Now the judges have
it. Carrie Ann wished her the big 5-0, Len said it was
very precise and Bruno said it was a proper mambo like
a debutante on a first date. Now I know why it's "Love
Connection." Let's se what the audience picked, er,
saw on the number board.....
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Last Week: 15
Week 2: 21
Overall Score:36
Ian & Cheryl has been called up to quickstep. Let's
see if they keep that up. Both did flick bounces, a
kick & drag move, and a spin & a dip by Cheryl to end
it. Let's see how the judges fared it. Carrie Ann said
it had so much more potenial, Len said it was an
all-around good performance, and Bruno said it was too
skimpy. Let's dive in on the numbers:
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 7
Last week: 21
Week 2: 22
Overall Score: 43
Paulina & Alec are ready to mambo to "La Bamba" by
Ritchie Valens and improve on last week. Paulina did a
jump over and a leg lift followed by a big dip to end
it. So how did that happen? Carrie Ann said she had
great extension, Len said it came out having fun and
Bruno said it was like a mambo on 5th avenue. Let's
turn into the scoreboard now:
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Last week: 19
Week 2: 21
Overall Score: 41
Billy Ray & Karina belonged in the weirdness dept.
last week for a song, a dance and a worse score.
That's about to change. They'll quickstep to "Ring of
Fire" by Johnny Cash. Both did flick bounces, Karina
did a kick and Billy Ray went solo before Karina
copied it. Let's copy the numbers after the judges
say....Carrie Ann said he's the most improved dancer,
Len said it came out and Bruno said it went the right
way. Let's peek at their scores:
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Last week: 13
Week 2: 21
Overall Score: 34
Now it's time for Heather & Jonathan. You saw what she
did overcoming her plastic leg, now she'll do it again
to "mambo Italiano." Heather did a dip & flip over and
both did arm pumps and a shimmy move for the mambo
routine. Now the judges: Carrie asked what in the
world over that back flip, Len said it was much better
than last week and Bru nosa id it was in a warm drive.
Let's see if the scoreboard is heating up.
CARRIE ANN: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Last week: 18
Week 2: 24
Overall Score: 42
Now, It's John & Edyta. His cha-cha surprised us all,
but can a quickstep do better? Find out as they dance
to "The Lady is A tramp" by Frank Sinatra. John flicks
with a thing in his hand, and as he throws it away,
both do flick bounces, and Edyta did a kick followed
by a slide-through. How did that go? Carrie said it
was off to a slow start, Len said it came out & got on
with it and Bruno said it's plenty of blood in the old
wolf. Now let's see if a score can not be out of the
first round like the Timberwolves:
CARRIE ANN: 7
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Last Week: 17
Week 2: 21
Overall Score: 39
Only 2 more and Laila & Maks are up. As they mambo,
Maks did a wipe off sweat off Laila's forehead
gesture, and Laila did a shake-through. Well? Carrie
Ann said that was hot, Len said it had great rhythm
and Bruno said it was simply irresistible. With the
numbers now:
CARRIE ANN: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Last week: 23
Week 2: 27
Overall Score: 50
Top scorers Joey & Kym will close this thing out as
they quickstep to "Tell Her About it" by Billy Joel.
Joey did a "IGAS-like" secret gesture and did a silly
dance. Kym did a kick and both did kicks. Joey did
some punk shaking and Kym sat on Kym's knee to end it.
How did that go? Carrie Ann said they did it again
tonight, Len said it was fast-moving and bruno said it
took off like a rocket. Let's end with a big score,
shall we?
CARRIE ANN: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Last Week: 24
Week 2: 24
Overall Score: 48
It's been 14 days into the season and our scoreboard
looks like this: Laila gets a big 5-0, Joey has 2nd
with 48, 3rd is Apolo with 47, Ian has 43, Heather has
42, Paulina has 41, Shandi & John have 19, not too far
behind is Leeza with 36, and way last is Clyde & Billy
Ray with 34. That wraps it up, but the week's not over
yet. Tomorrow, one will be the first to go. You'll see
who. We're on a 23-hour break. See you tomorrow when
we dance with the stars.
