They Thought Godzilla Was Walking Down the Street!
September 27

Another 12 teams are about to head out on another road trip from hell. But at the end of the rainbow, as always, is a pot of gold: a cool million and title of champions. Another adventure of a lifetime awaits as we begin the fifteenth running... of the AMAZING RACE!

Your racers are...

- MIKA COMBS & CANAAN SMITH (Music & Lyrics): a newly-dating couple from Nashville.
- ZEV GLASSENBERG & JUSTIN KANEW (The Puzzle Pieces): friends from SoCal. Zev is the first Racer with Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism.
- MARIA HO & TIFFANY MICHELLE (Team All-In): two of the best female poker players in the world. They hail from California.
- BRIAN KLEINSCHMIDT & ERICKA DUNLAP (Ebony & Ivory OR Mr. & Miss America): Ericka's a former Miss America. Brian's her husband.
- HERB "FLIGHT TIME" LANG & NATE "BIG EASY" LOFTON (The Trotters): two members of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters.
- LANCE LAYNE & KERI MORRIONE (Lawyered Pre-Honeymooners): an engaged couple from Massachusetts. Lance is a fierce lawyer.
- MARCY MALLOY & RON SHALITA (The Golden Gatekeepers): a dating couple of a certain age from San Francisco.
- SAM & DAN McMILLEN (The Sons of Liberty): brothers from Liberty, MO. They're both... fabulous.
- ERIC & LISA PASKEL (The Downward Dogs): married yoga-in-the-hood teachers from Encino, CA
- GARRETT PAUL & JESSICA STOUT (Two-Bay Daters): an on-again, off-again couple. One's from the Frisco Bay, the other's from the Monterey Bay.
- MEGHAN RICKEY & CHEYNE WHITNEY (Grade School Sweethearts): a dating couple from San Diego
- GARY & MATT TOMLJENOVICH (Pinky & the Brain): a father-and-son from Montana.

You know how this goes already, but here's a refresher. Your objective is to follow your clues to route markers, where you'll find more clues. Eventually, you'll reach a Pit Stop. Be sure you're the first one there. The 15th Race will have 12 legs and 12 Pit Stops. Nine of them are elimination legs. Get to the Pit Stop last on one of these, and Phil will kindly escort you off the premises.

Each leg, you'll receive a little money to cover expenses and incidentals except for tickets (business-class only, folks) which are already paid for. Or will be once this Race is over.

And the first team to cross the finish line will win, say it with me now, ONE... MILLION... DOLLARS.

We now go live to the starting line, the movie capital of the world...

In this iconic backdrop from "Grease" and "Terminator 2", the Racers are given a unique challenge to start this leg, and it's right beyond your backpacks... For one team, this will be a very short race, because if you fail to complete it in time... you will be eliminated RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.

But for now, Phil Keoghan, it is all yours...

"The world is waiting for you...

Good luck...

Travel safe...

GO!" And like that, Amazing Race 15 is ON! The first clue is...

Take one of two flights to Tokyo! When you land, make your way to the Tokyo Tower Studios.

But first, search the wall of license plates for one from the Shinagawa district of Tokyo. When you find the correct plate, bring it to Phil. If Phil clears you to leave, drive yourselves to LAX.

Each team can bring only one plate to Phil at a time. Winning plates should be replaced.

It starts out that no one notices the symbols at the top of the clue. That leads to Phil leading a rousing chorus of "I'm sorry, that's not correct."

Maria & Tiffany are the first to notice the symbols for "Shinagawa", and are the first to head to the airport! Following them: Marcy & Ron, Meghan & Cheyne, Flight Time & Big Easy, Gary & Matt, and Zev & Justin. They're on the first flight, the American Airlines flight to Tokyo.

On the second flight: Sam & Dan, Mika & Canaan, Garrett & Jessica, Brian & Ericka, and finally.... Lance & Keri. For Eric & Lisa, this is both the beginning... and the END of the Amazing Race. Usually, we chart how many miles that a team has traveled... but they haven't traveled any, so... Sorry, folks...

EARLY FLIGHT (American) to Tokyo
Maria & Tiffany
Marcy & Ron
Meghan & Cheyne
Flight Time & Big Easy
Gary & Matt
Zev & Justin

LATE FLIGHT (United) to Tokyo
Sam & Dan
Mika & Canaan
Garrett & Jessica
Brian & Ericka
Lance & Keri

Flight Time & Big Easy spend the downtime trying to find out what everyone does. Maria & Tiffany run a homeless shelter in LA. That's a lie. Or... a bluff, if you will.

The first teams to arrive head for the shuttles to Tokyo Tower. Maria & Tiffany miss the taxi and start going at each other for it. They end up losing the lead... to Sam & Dan of all people. They were the first team on the SECOND flight. This is going to be a tough leg.

The first team to arrive at the studio is... Meghan & Cheyne, and they're in for a treat... literally... because it's time for all of the teams to play... SUSHI ROULETTE!

In the Race's version of a wild and outrageous Japanese game show, the host will spin a roulette wheel containing nine sushi rolls and two wasabi bombs. Players must continue with the game until they receive a wasabi bomb. Once they do, they'll have two minutes to consume this fireball of flavor in order to receive your next clue, presented by a cute chick in a fuku.

GAME START! The first bombs go to Ron and Cheyne... The crowd chants "EAT THE WASABI!!!!" Ron's taking his sweet time with it... Cheyne... not so much. They get this next clue.

Using a colored flag, find 20 audience members with the same color visor and lead them through Shibuya Scramble Crossing to Konno Hachimangu Shrine, the Pit Stop for this leg of the Race.

WARNING! The last team to check-in MAY BE ELIMINATED!

Back at the Sushi Roulette, Garrett and Justin EAT WASABI! Garrett... just might hurl. Meanwhile, Meghan & Cheyne try asking the locals, while Marcy & Ron lead Team Ao through the streets with a little cheering and song.

It's only Maria in round 3... EAT WASABI! She's running out of time... and she's going to have to do it again because she didn't finish in time! TIME UP!

Meanwhile, Meghen & Cheyne enlist and English-speaking local to guide Team Aka through to Konno Hachimangu.

Meanwhile, Maria gets another wasabi bomb! Better hope it stays down this time or else we're going to extra spins.

On the streets of Shibuya, the teams make their way one by one to Konno Hachimangu... and we have a shoe breakage. That's not good.

Maria finally finishes her wasabi bomb and takes the pink squad out of the studio, just as the red squad is entering...

Phil awaits the first team to arrive, Meghan & Cheyne... They are locked in as team #1! For their first-place finish, they win a Travelocity trip to both Aspen AND Vail! They're young, they're fast, they're tenacious... And right now, they're the team to beat.

As for Big Easy and Lance, it's time to... EAT WASABI!!! Canaan follows suit

Zev & Justin arrive in second place, as Brian and Gary EAT WASABI!!! and lead their teams out. For Brian, it takes a little longer, because he can't get his bomb down.

Lance & Keri lock in the third spot, while Brian and Dan are left to EAT WASABI!!! Dan finds it quite easy as they lead the greens out, leaving Brian & Ericka by their lonesome.

Sam & Dan and Maria & Tiffany engage in a strategic alliance while Brian finishes his wasabi!

Marcy & Ron are in at #4, while Flight Time & Big Easy are in #5.

On the streets of Shibuya, someone has to go to the potty. Uh oh. People have lost on that. Sam & Dan follow Garrett & Jessica to the temple.

Brian & Ericka arrive in sixth, fighting to the end. Gary & Matt are right behind them in seventh. Meanwhile Tiffany & Maria are missing two people... and they're still at the scramble.

Garrett & Jessica are in at eighth, while Sam & Dan are in at ninth. That's horrible, but they'll take it. Mika & Canaan ... lost a person at the Pit Stop. They'll have to go back and find him or her before Phil can check them in. Mika finds her... and CARRIES her to the Pit Stop! They are now officially team #10.

That leaves Tiffany & Maria two people short. The GOOD news is that this is a non-elimination leg, and they're still in the hunt. The BAD news is that those two people will cost them an hour each. A two-hour penalty will be assessed at the start of leg 2. And not to mention the Speed Bump.
