$7199, two days

Michael O'Hara
West Hollywood, CA
director of customer service

Maggi McKenzie
Mt. Juliet, TN
business analyst

(C-Note: Two day champion and I'm JUST getting the spelling right. Laura, if you're reading this, I apologize.)

Laura is nickel-and-diming her way to the top...

Laura starts with $200 Let's Communicate. At the TV time out, Michael, the man in the middle, is in the lead with $4600 to Maggi's $1800. Laura has $1600.

Michael finds the Daily Double under $1000 Nash-ing. He triples the level on this: "he without benefit of _____, his fun & income soon quadruples. "What is scruples?" Correct for $8400! He jumps to $9600 against Laura's $2600. Maggi, with $3200, starts Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 NCAA Team Name's the Same. Laura finds the first Daily Double under $1200 New York Times Science Times. She wagers $3000 on this: scholars can't read a 10-word word column found in Guatemala, but know it means these people had writing in 2300 BC. "Who are the Mayans?" Correct for $9800! Laura also finds the other Daily Double under $1200 Art Style Etymology. She fronts $3000 on this: in a satirical 1874 review, critic Louis Leroy used this term to describe the loose, inexact manner of painting in a gallery show.. "What is expressionism?" CLOSE! It was impressionism, leaving her with $8800. She's back on fire with $10,000 against Michael's $18,400. Maggi could play spoiler with $2800.

Final Jeopardy! in "19th Century American Authors": he wrote, "I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and spartan-like". Correct question: who was Henry David Thoreau?

Both of the ladies... are correct. Michael needs to be right to win... and he is... the wager... $1601. Michael loses by a dollar, and Laura makes some serious change: $16,800 today, $23,999 for three days.

At the end of a 4-player day yesterday, Nasry Malak (New York, NY) had reached $1,000, but he used a lifeline to get there. He is getting married in August, and he needs money for just about every element of the whole wedding process. So, with that, the game resumes, and eventually...

[$16,000]
In math, which of the following is a perfect number?
A: 6
B: 9
C: 12
D: 24

The 50:50 leaves A and C. Nasry then calls his friend, Sam, and after a bit of thought, he's positive that it's A. Nasry goes with that... and it's A! (A perfect number equals the sum of its factors, not counting the number itself; in this case, 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.)

[$25,000]
Prince Albert II, who assumed his position as the ruler of Monaco in 2005, has what last name?
A: Bourbon
B: Habsburg
C: Windsor
D: Grimaldi

Nasry wants to go with A, but he decides to walk. It's D, so it's a good thing he left with $16,000!

In the hot seat now is Jenine Francolla (Jackson, NJ), a veterinary technician. She says she needs the dough, so she starts right away, knowing the title of a Christmas song, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". She gets through the lower tier, then soon enough, she gets help from the audience to reach $4,000. After that, though...

[$8,000]
Though Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, the seat of the Dutch government is located in what city?
A: Rotterdam
B: Utrecht
C: Maastricht
D: The Hague

Jenine uses the 50:50, leaving B and D. She then calls a professor, Gail, and she's sure that it's D. Jenine trusts her... and Gail is right!

[$16,000]
American fashion icon Ralph Lauren was born with what less fashionable surname?
A: Lifshitz
B: Lebowski
C: Lumpkin
D: Looney

Having no idea about this one, Jenine decides to take the $8,000 and run. Oh, and it's A.

Next up is Chris Hayes (Lemont, IL). He's feeling wonderful, and he hopes he's ready. Either way, Chris starts by correctly answering that John Grisham has a professional degree in Law, as suggested by his bestsellers "The Firm" and "The Runaway Jury". He ends up using the 50:50 to help secure $1,000, then soon after that...

[$8,000]
In the U.S., members of the Amish religion speak both English and a dialect of what European language?
A: Polish
B: Russian
C: French
D: German

Chris asks the audience, and a good chunk of them are thinking D; 93%, to be exact. He trusts them... and they're right! That's where this episode ends, so Chris will return tomorrow.
