Cash Cab by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time: 6p ET/5p CT on Discovery
Host: Ben Bailey
First up, we're going to 44th between Broadway & Eighth (you sure?) with Eric & Lindsey. Nice eyepatch, Eric. They sweep the $25 tier... and get $200 going into the Red Light Challenge: four actors who have played Batman since the 1989 Tim Burton film. Say it with me now: Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale. They get... only the first two. But they do sweep the $50 tier. Eric needs to call his father with the mobile shout out on this: who is the legendary record producer who was indicted in 2003 for the murder of Lana Clarkson? Phil Spector... is right for $500. First strike: name the TV series that feature professional child-rearer Jo Frost in action? They go with "The Nanny". No that had Fran Drescher. We were going for "Supernanny." And we're at Jon's Pizza, meaning they've got $800! Unless they go for the bonus. Which they don't.

Roderick heads to Prince & Broadway. He needs to call Mr. Pew on the first question: what is commonly referred to as a one-armed bandit? After a war of words, Roderick goes with poker. Not right. It's a slot machine. Second strike: 1980's Miracle on Ice refers to the US gold medal in what sport? "Ice skating." Ice hockey. He uses his street shout on an official name of a family of lions. "A pride." He goes with that... with AUTHORITY! Next question: in 1927, what aviator became Time's first official Man of the Year? Roderick goes with "the man that Leonardo DiCaprio just made a movie about." Good guess... but not right. It was Charles Lindbergh, and Roderick is booted from the Cash Cab.

Going to 46th & Sixth with Mimi & Dick from Minnesota. They have to use the mobile shout out on this for $50: in 1957, Ford introduced a lemon of a car they later regretted. What was it? They go with "Fairlane". That was a lemon of a movie. It was the Edsel, and Mimi was right.  They get $250 going into a Red Light Challenge: name five of the first six Presidents of the United States. Washington... Adams... Jefferson.. Monroe... and Adams again for $250 more for $500! They get their second strike with the penner of "O say can you see, by the dawn's early light". It was Francis Scott Key. But it's okay, because they're winners with $700! But will they risk it? Yep! The question: what benchmark of speed would these pilots break if they were traveling at 761 mph? "The speed of sound..." ... right for $1400!

Second trip in the Cash Cab begins with Hank & Pat going to 27th & Park. You can hardly tell that they know that they're on a game show. Seriously. They sweep the $25 tier, the $50 tier, and every question thereafter for $500 total! But will they take the Video? No, they take the money. Quoth Ben: "Decaf?"

Tim & Jim are heading to the ESPNZone, home of one of my cherished college memories. Nothing beats singing "Hark the Sound" after a Carolina victory at the ESPNZone. They get their first strike when they can't identify the writer of "Do The Right Thing" (Spike Lee). They use the street shout out on this: what was the name for the people at the Gold Rush. "The 69ers!" No comment. They do get the 49ers, though. They use the mobile shout out on this: What former Yankee's record did Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa shatter in 1999? "Roger Maris?" Right for $225. Next strike: according to the Bible, what northern Israeli town was the childhood home of Jesus Christ? They go with Bethlehem. Not right. It was Nazareth... what metric unit equals approximately 2.2 pounds? They guess liter.... Strike three. It was a kilogram. And you're going to have to walk to the Zone...

Night falls as Rachel's group heads to 10th between Third & Fourth. They sweep the first tier for $100. They get their first strike on the nickname of the Strategic Defense Initiative ("Star Wars"). They have to use a mobile on this: what term is used to describe the three dots that indicate an omission? They go with semi-colon... Not right, it was ellipsis. They get $200 going into the Red Light Challenge: what five US airlines carried the most passengers in 2004? Delta, American, Northwest, Southwest... and they miss United. Final question... gotten for $300! So that's theirs... unless they want to risk it. They... don't.

Family Feud by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or familyfeud.com
Host: Richard Karn
Kaufman (Kimberley, Michael, Barry, David, Dan)
McMackin (Casey, Reed, Nicole, Rex, Royal); $1485, two days

Will the McMackins go one day without saying something inane? Round 1: something a guy hates giving up in a divorce (6). Kimberley's house is #1, as Casey's money gets her the top spot. Car, kids, the pet, and... sports stuff? So goes that theory... The Kaufmans try to steal with friends... No! The McMackins get the 93. Other answer: half.

Round 2: a word/phrase beginning with "mouth" (7). Reed's mouthwash beats Michael's mouthpiece. And that's all the mouthing the McMackins will do on the board. "Mouthwatering" is the answer of choice for the Kaufmans... Up there for 55! Other answer: mouth off, mouth-to-mouth, mouth of a river, mouthguard.

Double Round: a profession that charges by the hour (full board). A psychiatrist beats an attorney, 1-2, as Barry wins the faceoff. Believe it or not... four people said prostitute. Or derivatives thereof. The McMackins try "handyman" for the steal... Not there! Kaufmans have 185! Other answers: massage therapist, plumber, carpenter.

Buy the DVD game, gosh darn it!

Triple Round: a phrase that starts with "below the" (4). Rex fires with "below the belt", number one. "Below the waist" is, according to Richard, "the same, only different". The Kaufmans have one more chance... "Below the surface"... Got it for the win, 401-93! Other answer: below the equator. Again, the same, only different.

David and brother-in-law Michael score the big Fast Money for $20,000.

Jeopardy! by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or jeopardy.com
Host: Alex Trebek
Bill Crowley (hotel employee/minister from Goderich, ON); $34,800, two days
Tim Ifill (non-profit director from Philadelphia)
Maria Kokiasmenos (law school graduate from Vernon, CT)

Bill upended the champ yesterday, but how will he do now that he's at lectern #1? He starts with $200 My Favorite Films (that would be Alex's favorite films). At the TV time out, Bill leads, $2800 to Tim's $1200 and Maria's $1400. Obviously Alex's favorite films aren't appealing to these guys.

Maria finds the Daily Double under $800 On the Job Training (as in the Book of Job). Now in the lead by $400, Maria bets $700 on a line in Job: "And I only am escaped alone to tell thee", being the title of the epilogue to a 19th Century novel. "What is Moby-Dick?" Right for $3900! She ends with that as Tim takes the lead by a bill, $4000. Meanwhile, Bill, who lost cash in the second half of this round, will, at $2400, start Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 American Literature. First Daily Double is a video under $1600 Political Johns. Tim bets $3000 on a 20th Century presidential candidate. "Don't got it." It was John Anderson for $4200. The dreaded category this round, Lesser Known Conglomerates, features our second Daily Double under $1200. In this category, answers end in "co". Maria, still in the lead, bets $1000 on this: this company specialized in delicate, ornate 18th Century artwork featuring shells & foliage. "What is Rococo?" Right for $10,500! She ends the round with an astonishing $16,900. It's all but over for Bill at $4400 and Tim at $4200.

Final Jeopardy! in "On the Globe": the way this nation's coastline would fit neatly into the Gulf of Guinea supports the theory of continental drift. Correct question: What is Brazil?

Both Bill and Tim are right, tying each other... but Maria can't be caught, winning $18,000. Bill leaves with $36,800.

The Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN

Air time:  11a ET/10a CT on CBS (markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker
Thursday the 15th. What happened in Studio 33 today? Let's check it out.

Edward Bruce kicked things off in high style, capturing a $2940 Ridgeway Fairfax grandfather clock. He takes to the stage to win a Ford F-150 playing Five Price Tags. He collected three choices winning a laser measurer, CD tower, and sound machine, calling all False. The one he missed, an electric shaver, was also False, but he called True on $62. Not wasting any time, Edward picked $19,640 and won the truck.

Onward to Gail Cantrell, winning a pair of patio heaters, valued at $599, following two overbids. She, too, has a shot at an automobile, this time a Ford Mustang V6 Coupe Deluxe in Range Game (Bottom value: $19,700). After some deliberation with the audience, she stopped the Range Finder between $19,935 and $20,085. Price of the car: $19,910. A little past the price, weren't you Gail?

Surely, Jennifer Sorenson can pick things up. She picked up a bangle, ring, and pendant from Hot Diamonds ($627), and was offered three prizes to pick up in One Wrong Price. Her prizes: a Chromcraft
dinette set ($2537), a Paragon popcorn cart ($1100), and a Taye drum set with Zildjian cymbals ($3751). In almost no time, she picked the drums as being wrong, and she was RIGHT! ARP on the drums: $2237. Her appearance at the Wheel was not as spectacular. After a puny first spin, she managed 50¢ in two spins and was taken down by Edward with a total of 75¢.

NO TICKET PLUG TODAY!!

Game 4: Coming or Going. Contestant: Elizabeth Vine, after winning a Broyhill Tropical Retreat sofa ($1250). Game Prize: an American 14.6 Day Sailer. Coming to $3556 or Going to $6553. She's going, and she got it. 'Nuff said.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is Weird Al Yankovic's alma mater. It is also the school of our next contestant, Richard Bailey. He picked up a Jon Margeaux hostess set (and a supply of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom
soup), worth $1023 (without the soup). His game: Check-Out for a $2313 trip to Nashville. With an insanely cheap counter, consisting of Starburst, Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies, David jalapeño
sunflower seeds, Oxford index cards, and Jolly Time Healthy Pop popcorn, his given total was $7.68. Actual total: $6.01 for a difference of $1.67 and a win.

T-MAC NOTE: When presented with the products, Bob asked if Richard did much shopping. He said no. Bob then asked if he ate at the college. Richard replied, "Yes, unfortunately." I'm sure CPSLO Dining Services
love to hear that kind of ringing endorsement.

Finally, contestant Andrea Fox captured a set of SportsStuff pool and beach lounges, worth $630. Her shot at a car came in the form of a Chevy HHR in Any Number. Either the car, the piggy bank, or an Ashley
Gleneagle secretary desk. Using only 5 picks, she managed to pick up a $532 desk, and not the $17,984 HHR, or the $6.10 oinker.

T-MAC NOTE: Is it me, or does the Chevy HHR look like a hybrid of a Blazer and a PT Cruiser?

In the Showcases today, we have Top Winner EDWARD and our Runner-Up RICHARD! The first Showcase, which this reporter themes, "Nothing Special," gave us an Ashley Casa Molino bedroom with a Comfortaire Royal Duchess mattress, a Fire Magic barbecue, and a Sundance Spas
Ultimar spa. Edward passed to Richard, who bid $15,031.

The second Showcase gave advice to people who didn't like to share. It featured a Worksman Cycles Cruiser tandem bike, a 3-piece bar set, and a CHEVY CORVETTE! Edward's conservative bid was $31,000.

Edward's bid may have been too conservative. ARP of his Showcase: $58,780 for a difference of $27,780. The only conceivable way for him to win is for Richard to be over, which he isn't. ARP of Richard's Showcase: $21,821 for a difference of $6790. As he is mobbed by his classmates, he walked away with $25,197.

STATS: 4/6; $63,967

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira
Yesterday, Kelley Griffin (Wasilla, AK) got to the $1,000 milestone easily. Could she make it all the way to the million?

They show a picture of Kelley at the start of the Iditarod dog race, and it also shows another woman in the sled, apparently known as an "Idita-rider", who is someone that bid in an auction to ride with a team for 10 miles. They then get a close-up of the woman in the sled, and... Is that Meredith? Nah, that seems like a Photoshop job. Oh, and there's that "hoodoo" word again when the million dollar check is held up... Anyway, the game resumes, and Kelley goes through a few questions before getting to this one for $16,000...

Jodhpurs, a style of long pants worn by horseback riders, take their name from a city in what country?
A: India
B: Turkey
C: Morocco
D: Saudi Arabia

Kelley asks the audience. 55% of the studio audience goes with A, but 40% of the AIM users go with C. She then uses the 50:50. Guess what? C is removed, as well as D. With just A and B to choose from now, Kelley goes with A... and she and the studio audience is right! Now, for the $25,000 question...

In the 1914 story "The World Set Free," what author coined the term "atomic bomb" decades before its invention?
A: Jules Verne
B: George Orwell
C: Aldous Huxley
D: H.G. Wells

Kelley decides to call Jaime (pronounced "Hi-me" in this case), a fellow she met during the summer. He was pretty much a total stranger when she asked him to be a Phone-a-Friend. Yeah, apparently, one can do that. Anyway, Jaime is positive that it's D, so Kelley goes with that... and she has $25,000! On to $50,000...

In 1974, T.G.I. Friday's became the first restaurant chain to serve what tasty appetizer?
A: Popcorn shrimp
B: Jalapeño poppers
C: Potato skins
D: Mozzarella sticks

[I don't know about you, but after seeing this question, I'm getting hungry. I really like mozzarella sticks...]

Kelley doesn't know, so she switches the question. We find out that the answer was C, then this comes up...

Usually considered to be the world's southernmost city, Ushuaia is located in what country?
A: Chile
B: South Africa
C: Argentina
D: New Zealand

It's a free guess, so after some thought, Kelley goes with A... but it's C! Oh well; she did good, and she does have $25,000 to take home!

Next up is Jamie Monson (Minneapolis, MN). She used to be a businesswoman, but at 40, she decided to become a teacher. I certainly hope she can do better than those that we saw last week, then. Jaime starts by knowing that for sanitary reasons, a cook is often required to wear a hat or a hairnet while on the job (do they even make a hat or hairnet that fits over Don King's hair?). She then goes on to complete the lower tier, before facing this for $2,000...

In math, the third root of a number is more commonly known by what name?
A: Cube root
B: Triangle root
C: Cross root
D: Circle root

It turns out that math isn't one of Jaime's strong points, so she asks the audience. 86% of the studio audience and 75% of the AIM users pick A, so she trusts them... and they're right!

And that's all for today. Jaime will keep going tomorrow.
