Cash
Cab by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 6p ET/5p CT on Discovery
Host: Ben Bailey |

|
First up, we're
going to Central Park South & Sixth with new parents
Kendall & Tim. They sweep the first tier and the second,
so we're going right to the $100 questions... where they
use a mobile shout out on this: in 2005, Dennis Rader
admitted he was what Kansas City killer? "The DK
Killer." First strike, it was BTK. Good news, they have
$1100 upon arrival! But will they risk it all for
double? They're walking with the cash.
Night falls early,
as Maureen goes to Christopher & Waverly. She gets her
first strike when she can't name the river baby Moses
was set adrift in (Nile). She gets her second strike
when she can't name the upper male voice sung beyond its
range (falsetto). Last question... gotten for $375. Will
she go for the Video? "Alright, I'll try." The question:
not as famous as the Golden Gate Bridge, this is the Bay
Bridge, which connects San Francisco with what city
across the bay? "Oakland?" Correct for $750!
Finally, Rony
and his girlfriend go to 44th & Broadway. They use the
mobile shout out at $25: from what animal's paw did
Androcles pull a thorn? "A lion!" Right for $75. They
get their first X at $50: who called Rush Limbaugh "a
big fat idiot" in the title of his 1996 book? (Al
Franken). They get their second on this: a fletcher is a
manufacturer of what pointy weapon? (arrow). They get
their third on this: what name is given to the spiced
chick pea fritters common in Middle East cuisine?
(falafel). That's three strikes... and better put your
rain gear on, because you're walking to Times Square.
Second trip in
the Cash Cab begins with Erin Munoz going to Union
Square. Erin sweeps the $25 tier. He doesn't know who
called Ebbets Field home (Brooklyn Dodgers), and has to
use a street shout out to remember the coffee shop on
"Friends" (Central Perk). It's time for a Red Light
Challenge: what all-American last names are the five
most common in the US? He gets Smith, Jones, Johnson...
but misses Brown and another name. "Who was put on trial
in 1925 for teaching the theory of evolution?" "John
Scopes!" The mobile shoutout works for $550. But will he
risk it for $1100? Nope!
Laura & Melanie
are heading
to Soho, Prince & Mercer to be exact. They sweep the $25
tier. Red Light Challenge time again: name the five most
populous US cities based on a US Government cities. They
get New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston... but miss
Philadelphia. They arrive in Soho with $250, but will
they risk? After a lengthy discussion process... they're
walking as well.
Aaron heads to
Chelsea Piers, 23rd & the West Side Highway. When it
comes to basketball, he's "not bad for a short white
guy." Too bad we can't say the same for trivia, as he
can't name the building which housed the Liberty Bell
(Independence Hall). He needs a mobile shout out to
determine where Petrified Forest National Park. Quoth
Zalman: "Arizona." Correct! He needs a street shout out
in Chelsea: James Kelley's novel, "Lost Horizon" is set
in which utopian community in Tibet? She... doesn't
know. We don't know either. It's Shangri-La. Final
question: what former Playboy writer switched gears to
write "A Light in the Attic" for children. Correct: Shel
Silverstein. Aaron's answer: Peter Boynovich. $1275...
GONE.

(Miguel, Jose, Iliana, Ana, Gabriel) |
|
McMackin
(Casey, Reed, Nicole, Rex, Royal); $790 |
Round 1: a type
of business that flourishes in a gambling town (7).
Casey fires with a casino. Good for #1. We also get a
bar, hotel, strip joint, and restaurant. The Lopezes go
with a pawn shop for the steal... Up there for 73! Other
answer: brothel
Round 2: a
famous Diane or Diana (5). Reed fires with Diana for #1,
but they pass. The Lopezes come up with Diana Ross,
Diane Sawyer, Diahann Carroll, and Diane Keaton for the
sweep and 173 points.
Double Round:
a word/phrase beginning with "chicken"
(5). Nicole gets #4, chicken nugget. Rex's chicken soup
is #2. Dumb answer alert: Casey says "don't be a
chicken". Reed gets "Chicken Little", #1! The Lopezes
try to steal with chicken wings... Not there! The
McMackins get 92. Other answer: chicken pot pie, chicken
fingers. Hmm.. I need chicken.
Triple Round:
something women do a lot of when they're pregnant (4). Rex's
eating is number one. Sleep, complain, and.. going to
the Lopezes for the steal. "They read books." Not there!
The McMackins win, 359-173. Other answer: go to
bathroom.
Casey & Reed try
again for the Fast Money. Casey only manages 61.
Together, they get another $695, $1485 total for two
days.

Rich Way
(manager from Aromas, CA); $34,800, two days |
|
Bill Crowley
(hotel employee from Goderich, ON) |
|
Erin McGurgan
(English teacher from Saugerties, NY) |
Rich survived a
stunner yesterday. Let's hope the competition for him is
more forgiving. And let's hope for me the competition is
less forgiving, because I like a stunner now and then.
He starts with
$200 Holiday. So far, Rich isn't making this easy for
either of his opponents with $3200 at the TV time out to
Bill's $1800 and Erin's $1000.
Bill finds the
Daily Double under $800 The Philadelphia Story (The
Philadelphia Story and Holiday... I'm detecting a
theme). Only trailing by $600, he doubles that on this:
the city's motto, "Philadelphia maneto" means "let" this
"continue". "What is liberty?" Not right, as "brotherly
love" sends Bill back to $1400. He comes back to tie
with Erin's $2800, but Rich has the lead all by his
lonesome with $3400. The rules state that the closest to
Alex's right has the first pick, meaning that Erin will
start Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Sporting Events, finding the first Daily Double under
$1600. Tied for the lead at $4000. She only bets $1000
on the event held on the Circuit de la Sarthe in France.
"What is the Grand Prix... Le Mans Grand Prix?" Right
for $5000! Second Daily Double under The Vatican's Index
of Forbidden Books for $1600, and Erin has $7000. She
only bets $500 on the author of "Emile" and "The Social
Contract". "Who is Voltaire?" Nope, it was Jean Jacques
Rousseau for $6500. That's where she ends up with Bill
at $7600 and Rich in the lead with $10,200.
Final Jeopardy!
in "Surnames": it's the only surname ever
shared by a US President and a British Prime Minister.
Correct question: What is Wilson?
Bill gets it
right for $14,600... and the game! Rich leaves with
$36,800. |

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |

Erica Dufour, Mark
Chan, Myia Rainey, Krystal Burggraff, and a home gym
system come on down to start the show. Krystal comes
away with it, as she gets a chance to Freeze the Frame
for a trip to Germany. She stops it at $6722... and
she's a winner!
Erica takes a
triplet of lamps after a bit of confusion among her,
Peter Llama, and Bob, but what she'd really like is
$10,000! It's hers if she can win 1/2 Off. First up:
Santa Bears figurine at $38, and breakfast maker at $25.
She goes with the breakfast maker... and it's $50! Take
away eight boxes... Next up, an MP3 player at $69 and a
food chopper at $9. She goes with the food chopper...
$18! Take away four more. Now to the Pipeline game at
$25 and the sound machine at $20. She goes with the
sound machine... $40! She's got a 50/50 chance at
$10,000. She goes with box 15. If $10,000 is in 15,
it'll cascade all over the studio 33 floor, and she will
be dancing in money. One... TWO... THREE! Cue
cascading! Cue dancing!
Round 3: luggage
sets go to Myia, as she gets Ten Chances to win a radio,
dinnerware, and a Pontiac G6. She'd only get to the
first two, because apparently someone doesn't know the
zero rule in Ten Chances. She only gets the radio after
74, 70, 47, and finally 40. She only gets the dinnerware
after 960, 629, 690, 620, 209, and finally 920. Moral of
the story: do your homework before coming to the Price
is Right... or catch Travis in the line.
Showdown round
sees Krystal become $1000 richer as she moves to the
Showcase.
Michelle
Rasmusson takes away a ladies' watch in round 4, as
Nathan Kays goes "Yay...huh?" thinking he's won. He
hasn't. Michelle gets a chance at a Gemcar playing
Pick-a-Pair. The products: Francesco Rinaldi pasta
sauce, CLR cleaner, Jif extra crunchy, Uncle Ben's
instant brown rice, Jolly Time Healthy Pop, and Mrs.
Dash. She takes the sauce at $1.99. She takes the
rice... also at $1.99. That's a pair, and that's a win!
Laura Pittman is
down and up thanks to a microwave oven. Now can she win
a Chevy Equinox playing One Away? The car is not
$32,457. She goes $23,548. She (and husband David) get
one... two... three... four honks. She changes the 8 to
$23,546. Actual price... $23,568. Darn.
Finally, back to
Peter, who earns his way up on stage in earnest with a
fireplace. He's looking for a place to stay. How about a
trailer? The Double Prices are $12,980 and $11,255. He
goes with the former.... and he should've gone with the
latter.
Another Showcase
Showdown, another big winner as Michelle pockets a
grand. So we have an all-hottie Showcase. First up: How
Do We Know? We have dueling guitars, a lion taking
pictures at an African photo safari, and a serpent
attacking a sailboat. Top winner Michelle bids $28,642,
an actual difference of $2823. Next up, Krystal gets a
living room group, carpeting, a DVD/VCR recorder, and a
plasma TV. Krystal bids $13,462. Actual price: $13,625.
Actual outcome: DOUBLE SHOWCASE WINNER! All in all,
$54,480 in cash and prizes. Result!
Unfortunately I
can't get video for this, because I need to reinstall
software that actually works.
Stats: 3-3,
$81,702, and three DSWs this season. |

Who

Host: Meredith Vieira |

Last time, Victor
King (Glendale, CA) got to $2,000, though he used the
50:50 along the way. How will he do today?
It turns out that in the hot seat, Victor feels like a
nervous wreck. So, Meredith tries to get him to calm
down and relax by telling him not to worry about what's
at stake, or the lights and music and stuff. But I don't
know how exactly a reminder that millions are watching
would help any. Well, anyway, the game resumes with this
$4,000 question...
What dog breed's name means "dwarf dog" in Welsh?
A: Weimaraner
B: Mastiff
C: Beagle
D: Corgi
Victor is more of a cat person, so he turns to the
audience for help. 73% of the studio audience says D,
and so does 43% of the AIM users. Victor trusts them...
and they're right! On to $8,000...
Consisting of a series of injections, sclerotherapy is
designed to eliminate which of these cosmetic nuisances?
A: Crow's feet
B: Varicose veins
C: Liver spots
D: Frown lines
Victor calls his friend Daniel, but unfortunately, he is
unable to give an answer in time. Victor then decides to
go for it and says D... but it's B! That'll send him
home with $1,000.
Next up is Gregory Mangione (Dayton, OH). He is a
captain in the air force, working as a physician
assistant. He became comfortable in the hospital setting
after having been through some sports injuries. Hey, it
helps to have some good-looking nurses in the hospital
at the time. Anyway, Gregory starts by knowing that in a
famous 1775 speech, Patrick Henry patriotically
declared, "give me liberty or give me death". As he goes
through the lower tier, he comes up to this $500
question...
Opera singer Luciano Pavarotti was born in 1935 in
Modena, a small city in what country?
A: Italy
B: France
C: Germany
D: Greece
Gregory is sure that Pavarotti is Italian, but he's
apparently not 100% sure about this question, so he asks
the audience. 96% of the studio audience and 70% of the
AIM users say A. He goes with that... and it is, of
course, right. A couple of questions later, and he faces
this for $4,000...
In 2004, what TV personality replaced Casey Kasem as
host of the weekly radio show "American Top 40"?
A: Ryan Seacrest
B: Jimmy Kimmel
C: Jeff Probst
D: Carson Daly
The captain calls his neighbour Liz, and she believes
it's A, but she's not sure. Gregory goes with A
anyway... and it's A! Another question later, and he
sees this, worth $16,000...
Heard during the opening of TV's "Laverne & Shirley,"
"schlimazel" is a Yiddish word meaning which of the
following?
A: Young single woman
B: Unlucky person
C: Dependable friend
D: Untrustworthy suitor
The 50:50 leaves A and B. After some thought, Gregory
then goes with A... but it's B! Talk about unlucky...
Well, at least he has $1,000.
In the hot seat now is Kelley Griffin (Wasilla, AK), a
professional dog musher. Yep, she participates in dog
sled races. And she says that when she does so, she
doesn't say a word; she just lets the dogs race. Sounds
interesting. Then, when Meredith shows the million
dollar check for some extra motivation, Kelley says she
didn't want to see that, as she thinks that would "put
the hoodoo on it" (not voodoo, hoodoo; the closed
captioning confirmed this). Um, I'm not sure what
"hoodoo" means, but hopefully, that won't come into play
later. Kelley starts by knowing that due to its regal
appearance, the lion is commonly referred to by the
nickname "king of the beasts" (maybe another animal
could claim "mother of bad housepets"). She soon locks
in the $1,000.
And there's the horn. Kelley will be back tomorrow, and
I hope I don't hear the word "hoodoo" again. That word
just sounds scary for some reason... |
