Cash
Cab by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 6p ET/5p CT on Discovery
Host: Ben Bailey |
|
|
First in the Cash
Cab tonight are Renee & Artesia, going to Union Square
East. They sweep the $25 questions. They have to use the
street shout here: What line from "Gone with the Wind"
was chosen by the AFI as the best movie line of all
time? No idea all around for a strike. Correct: "Frankly
my dear, I don't give a damn." They get $200 at the Red
Light Challenge: according to a survey, name five of the
seven most lucrative fast-food chains in America. They
get McDonalds, Burger King... and that's it. Also
acceptable: Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Subway. They end up at
Union Square at $750! But will they risk it for a Video
Bonus? They're going for it! The question: This rambling
estate and tourist attraction in San Simeon, CA, was
once home to what famed newspaper mogul? They go with
Rupert Murdoch... It was William Randolph Hearst. Sorry,
girls. No money today.
Next passenger:
Dave O'Gara, going to Bleecker & MacDougal. Short ride
begins with a $25-tier sweep. Time to pull out the phone
to figure out Prince Charles' last name. Calling dad...
He doesn't know. He goes with Lancaster.. but it was
Windsor. First strike. But that's it, as Dave wins
$200... unless he wants to go for one more ride on the
video. "I'll take the $200." And sure enough, he does.
"Take care, Bailey." The Cab rolls on to...
Chambers &
Hudson to drop off Aussie John, British John, and
American Mike. They sweep the lower tier and get $250
pulling into the Red Light Challenge: the five best
hands you can have in a game of poker with no wild
cards. They get the royal flush, the straight flush, the
four of a kind, the flush, and the full house for $250,
doubling the bank to $500. They sweep the $50 tier. They
get their first strike on $100: prove you love Earth by
naming one of the three layers that make up the planet.
They go with ozone layer. Wrong. "Son of a (^_^)." Core,
crust, or mantle. After his "final answer, baby cheeks",
the guys get $950 and go crazy like this is a pub quiz
or something. But will they risk it? "$950, done."
Taking the
Toyota for another go with Carin, going to the PATH. She
gets the $25 tier, all four of it. She gets a Red Light
Challenge triggered at $200. The question: five of the
six most recent First Ladies of the United States. Laura
Bush, Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan...
Missed Roslyn Carter and Betty Ford. She sweeps the $50
tier, but has to use the mobile shout to ask her
boyfriend who produced the 727, since discontinued.
Boeing is right for $700. We go to the street midtown as
she needs to figure out who Scott McClellan replaced in
2003. No one knows, as Ari Fleischer gets her her first
strike. She gets another strike, but no time for a
third, as she wins $700. Will Carin take the video? No
way.
We're going to
58th between CPW & Columbus with Susan & George. They
get their first strike when they can't place Kiefer
Sutherland as Jack Bauer on "24" (they say "Monk"). They
have to shout out at midtown to remember William
Frederick Cody's nickname. And it isn't "Wild Bill"...
It was Buffalo Bill. One more and it's out in the rain.
Literally. Susan has to use the mobile shout out to call
her friend Steve on this: in 1996, Sarah McLachlan
started what concert tour for fellow female musicians?
"Woman's World Tour for Peace?" Nope. The Lillith Fair.
Three strikes... out of Ben's cab.
As night falls
upon the city, Ben picks up Hal & Jason to take to 23rd
& Madison. Long ride means big money. They get the first
$25ers. Going to Park Ave. for the street shoutout: what
type of jacket known for its stand up collar is named
for a prime minister of India? The street shout out
doesn't know. Correct: the Nehru jacket. The good news:
it's time for a Red Light Challenge: name four of the
six US presidents named James. Madison... Carter... Only
two. Buchanan, Monroe, Garfield, and Polk were the
others. All in all, they pick up $250. But will they
keep it? Or is it Video time? Let's... not and say we
did. That's $250.

Kempton
(Rick, Elisa, Lee, Alana, Mike) |
|
Broadous
(Lillian, Deborah, Angelica, Michelle, Shyann); two
days, $1480 |
The Messengers
take a break as Family Feud rolls out its special
AstraZeneca breast-cancer awareness episode (which
really should've aired last month, but oh well). We're
all wearing our pink ribbons as we set up the board
for... Round 1: a talk show where at least one of the
guests always ends up crying (5). Oprah is number one
(isn't she always) for the champs. Montel, Dr. Phil,
Maury, and Jerry Springer do it for 95.
Round 2:
a song with the color "yellow" in the title (6).
Deborah gets #1, "Yellow Submarine". "Tie A Yellow
Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree", and "Yellow Brick Road"
make the survey. The Kemptons call "Mellow Yellow". Got
it for 79. Other answers: "The Yellow Rose of Texas"
(said by Richard), "Yellow Bird".
For more
information on AstraZeneca's ongoing fight against
breast cancer, please call 1.888.477.1677 or visit
getbcfacts.com. Double Round:
100 married women, something your husband does every
weekend (full board). Watching sports is #1 for
Angelica. Yard work and playing sports make the list.
The Kemptons hope for working in the kitchen (after
being asked to specify what on the house they would work
on). "If it's there, I would like to talk to those
women." Start asking Fremantle for addresses, Richard;
it's number six! Other answer: Sleep/lounge, drink.
Kemptons lead, 175-95 going into...
Triple Round:
something people have to squeeze into (4). Blue jeans
(and all clothes for that matter) give the bank 81 times
3 as Michelle wins the faceoff. Car follows, but the
Kemptons get one last chance... "Seat." More specific...
"Like a chair." A chair? "In the kitchen." Okay. Not
there! Broadouses win, 377-175. Other answers:
restaurant booth, parking space. The Parking Spaces
strike again!!!
The Parking
Spaces can't help Shyann and Michelle take Fast Money,
but they don't need the help, they got the $20,000 for a
three-day total of $21,480. Not only that, but the Feud
and AstraZeneca are donating $5000 to Sisters Network
for breast cancer research. How nice of them. |

Leeaundra (Lee)
Temescu
(communications coach orig. from Troy, MI); $20,001 |
|
Beth Klein (mom/assistant
editor from Boynton Beach, FL) |
|
Elaine Henderson
(children's encyclopedia editor from New Milford,
CT) |
Three beautiful,
intelligent women... And one of them on coin. That one,
Leeaundra starts with $200 Seeing "Red". So far, it's
Beth coming out as the aggressor, with $4200 to
Leeaundra's $2000. Elaine, still waiting to make her
move.
Beth picks up
the Daily Double under $1000 National Currencies. So
far, she's blowing up in the lead at $6800. She only
bets $800 on this: countries that use the rupee include
India, Pakistan, Bhutan & this other Himalayan kingdom.
"What is Nepal?" Right for $7600! Elaine finally gets on
the board, but with $1400 to Leeaundra's $1800 and
Beth's $6800 at the half, it is her that will start
Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Presidents Who Died In Office. Leeaundra finds the Daily
Double under $1600 Legalese. In third by quite a margin,
she says what we like to hear... "Go big or stay home."
All or nothing on this: a word meaning mournful has the
same origin as this word for the person who initiates
the lawsuit. "What is plaintiff?" Right for the lead at
$9200! She also picks up the second, $1200 Chicago.
After a scoring change affecting Beth, Leeaundra wagers
$1800 on this: remove 1 letter from thie name of a plaza
in Dallas & you get this plaza in Chicago's Loop. "It's
hopeless." No, it's Daley. She has $9000. That's where
she ends with Beth still at $8400. Elaine with $6200,
very much in it as well.
Final Jeopardy!
in "20th Century Innovations": after watching
smoke emitted by WWI airplanes, Major JC Savage
developed the technique for this. Correct
question: What is skywriting?
Elaine is
right... in fact, she's the only one right, ending up
with $8700 to Leeaundra's $9000. Anything less than
three bills... And she goes home with $22,001. Elaine
returns to defend Monday! |

The
Price is Right by Travis Scahrio, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
Ah, the end of the
week and a wonderful, snowy weekend forecasted for the
northeast. So, let's see how things out in Sunny
Southern California went to day. Here, for your
enjoyment, are the goings-on in 7800 today.
Things kickoff quickly with Alexander Navarro picking up
a Backyard Adventures outdoor playhouse ($3230). Fellow
First Four selection, Darla Barrow, bid $5000 on the
playhouse, and drew a groan from the audience. After
ascending the stairs and complementing Bob, out rolled a
Dodge Caravan SE for Lucky $even. Alexander ran the
numbers well, not losing more than $2 on any one guess.
He picked up the $19,834 van after paying back the only
dollar he had left. Well played.
Next contestant: Mark Tuberholtz. His IUFB: a $850 set
of Fitz & Floyd serving pieces, following an overbid
(with Darla bidding $6000). His game: Punch-A-Bunch for
$10K. He managed to sweep up four punches with a
humidifier, wireless headphones, an RC car, and
"Pipeline" from University Games. His first two punches
were both $100. Pulling the slip out of hole 38, Bob
asks how much it will take Mark to stop. Without
hesitation, he claims, "$10,000!!" Bob reveals the
$5000, and Mark says, "I'LL STOP! I LIED! I'LL STOP!!"
He takes the $5000 and leaves the fourth punch
unrevealed.
Let's give First Four pick Paulette Pace a shot at the
stage. She captured a set of Halex family games,
including Foosball, Marble Soccer, and Air Hockey;
valued at $900, following an overbid (Darla's bid first
was $2000). Her game: the quick and trusty Double Prices
for a screen gazebo. $7500 or $6800? She goes with $6800
and wins. Wonderful! Following a 90¢ Spinoff, Paulette
won her way to the Showcases - 45 to 30.
Before going to break, they did the CBS.com ticket plug
again. Awesome!
To start the second half, let's give Adam Clove a shot.
He picked up a Pulaski curio cabinet ($1500; Darla bid
$3000), and made his way to the Turntable for a trip
back in time to March 1997 with Now....or Then. Picking
Miracle Whip ($3.19 THEN) and Poligrip ($3.55 NOW) at
the top and bottom and being wrong on both accounts
blocked him from 3-in-a-row and the trip to Puerto
Vallarta.
Now, we have a Honda CRF 80 offroad bike, valued at
$2014. Who picks it up? None other than our BIG SPENDER,
DARLA with a bid of $1795. Her game: Credit Card (oh,
no) for a TV/DVD/VCR Combo, a Howard Miller floor clock,
a set of 6 Igloo coolers, a Corsican rabbit daybed, and
a 5 horsepower snowblower. Her Credit Limit: $2000
(double oh, no). Her first pick: the daybed (triple oh,
no): $1230. Her next pick: the TV for $499. New limit:
$271 and Bob asks Roger if she can buy just one cooler.
He says no, but Darla asks for just one anyway. Instead,
she buys all 6 for $605 and goes broke. The rest of the
prices are unrevealed.
OK, we've hit a dry spell. Two losers after two winners
and a bailout. Nadine Brown, turn things around. She
picked up a Peavey electric guitar and amp ($770), and
played Dice Game for a Ford Focus ZX3SE. Her rolls:
3,5,4,4. Her calls: H,L,H,H. ARP: $16,215. All but one
call was right. So the day ends 2-3-1. However, Nadine
did make it to the Showcases after a 75¢ spinoff - 65 to
25.
With a resounding "Ooooooooooooooh" from the audience,
here cometh Showcase #1. Filled with "Tops", we have a
collection of spinning tops, a trip to Malaysia, and a
Chrysler Sebring Convertible. Paulette's bid: $23,000.
Showcase #2 was the simple Showcase of Hawaiian Flowers
from Big Island Farms, a Broyhill living room with HWM
carpeting, and a Sonoma Symphony spa. Nadine's bid:
$14,000.
Paulette was off the scent of her Showcase (ARP:
$35,269; Diff: $12,269). Nadine, on the other hand, was
almost on the NOSE (ARP: $16,000; Diff: $2000). Had she
only bid $16,000; she would have been EXACTLY RIGHT!!
Her take on the day: $16,770.
STATS: 2-3-1; $63,320 |

Trato
Hecho by Gordon Pepper, GSNN
Air time: Noon ET/11a CT on Univision
Host: Guillermo Huesca |
|
I type this up with
a very heavy heart. According to many sources, this will
be the last episode of Trato Hecho to air on Univision.
No more Gran Trato. No more Super Pollo. No more
Franken-Chasco. Sigh.
We start this very sad occasion with Santana and
Francisco, as they get to play for a new car!!!! This is
$18,430 automobile can be theirs if they get $7 by
pricing items correctly. First up - Vanish Drop-ins and
the margin is $2. Guess - $2.99. Price - $1.97, and
that's close enough. Next - Guess Rust-Oleum within
$1.50. Guess - $3.99. Price - $3.54 and that's good for
another $2. They don't need to get the Glade within $1,
but it would be fun if they did. Guess - $1.59. Price -
$1.37 and they have $6. The last item is for the car,
which they will win should they get the Plant Spray
within 50 cents. They are offered a Bailout under
Curtain #2, which they don't want. Today, the bailout
was a trip to Seaworld and a $600 certificate for a
total of $2,400. Guess - $5.50 Price - $8.97. The couple
is nowhere near the item and don't win the car. They go
back to their chair with only $6. Awww.
Gloria goes punk for the next deal, which is this -
weigh her purse and get paid $200 per pound, or take the
big box. Gloria goes for the box - and turns down $800.
Inside the box is the Big Bad Chasco Wolf, who has a
pair of Chopsticks for Gloria. Well, for a sendoff show,
this is not turning out too good for anyone.
Abner hopes to change that, while Guillermo gives him
either Curtain #1 or the Big Box. Abner takes the
Curtain, but he could have had a guitar and a keyboard
worth a total of $910. What's behind the Curtain? The
Big Bad Chasco Wolf taking a sauna in a giant tea cup.
So there's another Chasco.
The Gran Trato is worth over $5,000, and the people with
the highest amount to go for it is...the couple with
only $6? They take it, and so does Gloria, who trades in
a Big Bad Wolf Chopstick Chasco. Are you kidding me?
Well, at least this is appropriate for the last airing
of this show, as we see the 3 big doors one last time.
The couple take door #2 while Gloria takes door #3. No
one takes #1, and no one takes $850. Gloria makes a nice
trade, exchanging a Chasco for a new refrigerator, stove
and dishwasher for a total of $2,097. The couple does
even better, trading in $6 for the final Gran Trato,
which is a trip to Cabo San Lucas and a new bedroom set
for a total of $5,131.
So we say goodbye to Trato Hecho - but at least we leave
it knowing that it send the last people home very, very
happy. This is Gordon Pepper, hoping that your day is
not filled with Super Pollo Chascoes. |

It's the last day
of Teacher Week, and we still have yet to see anyone
reach the upper tier this week. Can Wanda Jennings
(Boise, ID), who is currently at $1,000 with all
lifelines intact, make it happen?
This 1st-grade teacher happens to make "house calls", so
to speak. Yeah, she likes to visit the parents of her
students, so that they can get to know each other
better. That's a nice idea. Anyway, it's time to resume
the game, and Wanda soon makes it to this $4,000
question...
On the TV series "Gilligan's Island," the Professor is a
teacher of what subject?
A: Science
B: English
C: Government
D: History
Wanda turns to the audience on this one. 86% of the
studio audience and 73% of the AIM users go with A, so
she trusts them... and is right! Another question later,
and she has this for $16,000...
In 2005, what city elected Antonio Villaraigosa as its
first Hispanic mayor since 1872?
A: Houston
B: Las Vegas
C: San Francisco
D: Los Angeles
Wanda decides to call fellow teacher George, who says he
is 90-94% sure that it's D. So, she goes with D... and
it's D! Now, for $25,000...
In 1935, Erwin Schrödinger devised a famous physics
problem involving radioactivity, cyanide and what
unlucky animal?
A: Cat
B: Turtle
C: Dog
D: Gerbil
The 50:50 leaves A and B. She thinks it's A, but she's
not sure enough, so she walks. And she could have had
$25,000, as it was indeed A, but she does go home with
$16,000!
Looks like it'll be up to Paul Picconi (Boonton, NJ) to
do what no one else has done this week; which is reach
that upper tier! This elementary school teacher has been
teaching for 32 years, and he is now teaching kids and
even grandkids of some former students! Sounds like
someone who deserves a million dollars. So, Paul starts
by knowing that in 1958, Cliff Hillegass launched a
famous series of study guides named CliffsNotes. Paul
sweeps the lower tier, and as he moves through the
middle tier, he faces this for $8,000...
Which of these is not a directional abbreviation that
appears on a standard compass?
A: SSW
B: EES
C: WNW
D: ENE
Paul thinks it's B, but he asks the audience, just to be
safe. 95% of the studio audience and 56% of the AIM
users also think it's B, so he goes with it... and
they're right! On to $16,000...
While the city of St. Louis is in Missouri, the
neighboring East St. Louis is in what state?
A: Arkansas
B: Kentucky
C: Tennessee
D: Illinois
Paul thinks it's D, but he also says he's not good with
geography. So, he uses the 50:50, which leaves C and D.
He decides to go ahead and say D... and he's right! Now,
to see if he can make it to $25,000...
The classic TV series "Welcome Back, Kotter" is set in a
New York high school named after what U.S. president?
A: Millard Fillmore
B: James Buchanan
C: Calvin Coolidge
D: Zachary Taylor
Paul calls his friend Eileen, but she doesn't know,
though she thinks "Fillmore" sounds funny. With that,
Paul ponders the choice of either walking with $16,000
or going with the funny name of A. After some thought,
he decides to walk. Good thing, too; it was B. So, he
goes home with $16,000.
That'll do it for Teacher Week. It was nice to see
Millionaire pay tribute to America's teachers, though I
wish we could have seen some of them do better than they
did this week. See ya next time. |
