van der Ham
(Amie, Karla, Jennifer, Josh, Marcia) |
Parsons
(Tim, Charise, Tiffany, Chantel, Taryn) from
Arizona; $21,340, three days |
Richard proves
that it takes a real man to wear lilac. On television. Round
1: 100 married women, something you'd love your husband
to say to you without prompting (7). Tim loves you...
That's number one! Take notes: we also see "You're
beautiful," "Have you lost weight?", and "Go shopping."
The van der Hams go with "can I make you dinner?" for
the steal... No. The Parsons get 74. Other answers:
Let's go vacation, Let's go out/eat, How was your day.
Round 2: a
famous Andy (6). Sheriff Andy is #1 for Charise, but Tim
wants to pass... You hear how loud that guy is? I
wouldn't deny him. They get Andy Dick, Andy Williams,
and Amos & Andy. The Persons get the steal with Andy
Warhol. "A little strategery," they say... It worked!
They have 130. Other Andy: Andy Rooney.
Double Round:
something specific you're afraid will happen to you on
Friday the 13th (5). Jennifer gets #3, fall down. Marcia
gets #2, a black cat. Amie gets numero uno, a car
accident. Jennifer, continuing a stretch of amazing
answers, comes up with dying. Oh, it's #4. Well, how
about a full moon for Josh? No. The Parsons go with bad
luck. It's good! Parsons are knocking on heaven's door
with 282.
Triple Round:
past or present, someone famous whose first name is
Elizabeth
(4). Josh gets #1, Ms. Taylor. But that's all they get.
The Parsons go with Queen Elizabeth... Got it! The
Parsons blank the van der Hams, 468-0. Other Elizabeths:
Elizabeth Arden, Elizabeth Hurley.
Charise gets all
five number ones for 180. Doesn't take Taryn much to
round it out for a four-day total of $41,340. |

Jeopardy! by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or

Host: Alex Trebek |

Maria Wenglinski
(teacher orig. from Salt Lake City); $122,300; five
days |
Michael
Cramer
(graduate student from Virginia Beach, VA) |
Jeff Cuffee
(accelerator operator from Los Alamos, NM) |
Well, we have 15
students earlier, but hell, what's one more? But first,
a few tidbits from Alex. Maria breaks the top 10
Jeopardy! winnings list at number 8. And Alex publicly
thanks ABC11 WTVD in Raleigh for bringing the show here
to North Carolina, although this was taped some two
months prior (YES, friends, these are the Game Show
Congress shows we're watching this week).
Now to the
business at hand. Maria begins her sixth defense with
Knights & Knighthood for $200, finding the Daily Double
under $600 Food. Breaking out early and forceful again,
Maria wagers $1200 on a Thai food flavoring that comes
from a tropical plant named for its citrusy shell. "What
is lemongrass?" Right for $4400.
Maria, now
living in Brooklyn (hey, Jason's hometown!), once
trained a squad of female Nazis... for an all-girl
production of "The Sound of Music". After a visit from
Larry King, Jeff storms out "Eek" City to take second
with $5400 to Maria's $7800. But Michael, with a
still-strong $3800, gets to start Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
"King" of the Top 40, but he'd find the first
Daily Double under $1200 Revolutions. He bets
$1800 on the country with a "White Revolution" from 1963
to 1978 and in 1979, an Islamic one. "What is Iran?"
Right for $8000. Another chance to strike just $200 shy
of Jeff's lead with the second Daily Double, a video
under $800 Women in Government.
Risking $1000, Michael is delivered a clue from Ari
Fleischer. "In 1999, after this woman left the Red
Cross, I was communications director for her
presidential campaign." "Who is Elizabeth Dole?" Got it
for $12,200 with minute left. Board is clear and Michael
still has the lead with $14,600 to Jeff's $14,200.
Meanwhile, Maria has $11,000. Clearly this can go any
way.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Name the Poem": "He is all pine and I am
apple orchard. My apple trees will never get across and
eat the cones under his pines." Correct question:
What is "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost?
Maria is right, as
she's forced to bet everything in order to stand a
chance... Jeff.. wrong. It's all on Michael. He's right.
The magic number is $7400... And $8000 will do it! First
day back from NC and we have a new champ. Michael Cramer
becomes Michael Creamer as he creams Maria with $22,600.
Maria leaves with $124,300 and her eighth-place
standing. |

The
Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |

It's Thanksgiving
week at 7800. Here's what went down on this Monday in
history.
Let's kick things off with contestant Joel Odburn
winning a Porta-Bote portable folding boat ($1399) and a
chance to avoid the Danger Price ($676) with a set of
ladies golf equipment, the String of Pearls daybed, a
vintage bathtub, and a set of Ridgid power tools. Joel
takes the bathtub with no consequence ($1608), but loses
on the power tools. What a way to start a week.
Contestant Dusty Fields, supporting the Indianapolis
Colts' Marvin Harrison, captured a Magnussen mobile
circular bar set ($550) with the magical $1 bid. Her
game, which she knows very well: Pocket ¢hange for a
Pontiac Grand Prix. After 5 misses, the price of the car
was set at $24,651; but the cost was set at $1.50. She
only needed her first envelope, the $2.00 tag, to win.
IIRC, this is the FIRST time the $2.00 tag has been
drawn! Go Dusty and Go Colts! Following her outstanding
win, she does her gymnastic routine across the floor and
rushes the car. The cameramen have a hard time following
her, but they do manage to keep track while Bob laughs
hysterically.
Now, let's give LA-lane Groll a chance at a flatbed GEM
car in Flip Flop after claiming a $600 pair of Yamaha
acoustic guitars. Her Flip Flop setup for the car was
[67][95]. Does she flip flop for $7659? No. Does she
flop for $6759? No. She flipped for $7695 and won. After
a very low scoring Showdown, Joel made it on to the
Showcases with a winning 75¢.
Second halfs should start off with a bang. This one
started with a "huh?". Contestant Sherri White, after
claiming a $3385 Bucks County Collection cupboard
(complete with a set of Level-Line frames for the
winner), played Secret X for a $2581 trip to the Grand
Canyon. She played the game beautifully, capturing a
Rummikub game and a rotary shaver system ($10 and $123)
and placing her X's in the top left and right, and
bottom right corners. The only way she could possibly
lose is for the Secret X to be...wait...it is in the
bottom. Damn.
REPORTER'S NOTE: The description of the trip consisted
of, and this is almost verbatim, "You and a guest will
fly round trip coach for a 6-night stay at the Grand
Canyon. A fabulous trip worth...$2,581." Why so few
details? Also, why is Bob doing the 2nd half throw to
break now?
Football season is alive and well at 33 today. Now, we
have contestant Cynthia Gaines, supporting the Steelers'
Cedrick Wilson, capturing a Fitnexx exercise bike
($1499). Her game: Let 'Em Roll for a Chrysler PT
Cruiser ($16,415). She swept thru her three groceries
(Citracal, Hot Pockets, Bayer Back & Body) for three
rolls, and only needed two. After rolling three CARs on
the first shot, she gave up $2500 and rolled the other
two cars. Outstanding win!
Let's end things on a high note. Contestant Jared
Miller, capturing an American Retro Coke machine,
complete with Little Debbie Honey Buns. He takes the
Coke to Barker's Bargain Bar for a Honda CRF 100 ($794)
and a Howard Miller Galleria wall clock ($920). His pick
for bigger bargain was the bike, which it was; $1600 to
$1100. Congrats. This Showdown ended with an 85¢ spinoff
between Jared and Cynthia, with Jared winning with a
spinoff score 90¢-75¢.
On to the Showcases, with Jared as the Top Winner and
Joel as the Runner-Up. The first Showcase shows us the
trials and tribulations of Salty the 8th Dwarf. Her
prizes were a Dell laptop, a 6 night trip to the
Bahamas, and a Fleetwood Pioneer travel trailer. Jared
passed to Joel, who bid $25,000.
The second Showcase (which this reporter calls the
fastest Showcase ever) gave us a Sklar Peppler living
room, Hibernia Woolen Mills carpeting, a Runco 42"
plasma TV, and an Almost Heaven barrel sauna. Jared's
bid was $14,789.
Although an odd bid, Jared was a fairly round $2850 off
(ARP: $17,639). Joel's bid, although round, ended up
over (ARP: $18,663). Jared walks away with a total take
of $22,992.
STATS: 4/6; $79,319. |

Trato
Hecho by Gordon Pepper, GSNN
Air time: Noon ET/11a CT on Univision
Host: Guillermo Huesca |
|
Guillermo gets a
pretty scarf from the lovely Evelyn, and in return, he
gives her the Trato Hecho Treasure Chest - which she can
keep or give away for Curtain #2. What she doesn't want
goes to Elvia the Court Jester. Evelyn wants the Chest,
so Elvia has the curtain, which Guillermo will buy back
for $300. Elvia doesn't want the money - and instead
gets a pair of bicycles worth $780. Very nice for Elvia.
Now back to Evelyn with her Chest. She can now trade it
for the Box, but she doesn't want to. The Box instead
goes to Leticia, and she can also take $300. She doesn't
want it, and instead gets an LCD TV along with a video
game system for a total of $1,350! Evelyn has one more
chance to trade the Chest - and this time it will be for
Curtain #3. She keeps the Chest, and was there something
good again waiting for her? Yes there was - this time,
it was a refrigerator worth $1,149. I have a feeling
that we have something much less that $1,149 in the
Chest - and it's the Key to Tratolandia, which is worth
a Cha-cha-chasco.
It's time to play the shotglass game with Juana the
clown. There's a $500 ball, a $50 ball and no ball.
Whatever she picks is what she gets - unless she wants
to take $250 and forget all about it. She doesn't take
the sure thing and goes after Shotglass #1. Under the
glass is...$500 for a very good Trato for Juana.
Guillermo has something for Victoriano the balladeer - a
large wooden turtle dubbed the Paperboy of Tratolandia.
Heh. Attached to the wooden Chasco, however, is a folder
with something in it. He can either take the folder or
take some Derman - and what's attached to it. Victor
wants the envelope - and gives up $500 in the Derman.
Guillermo now offers him Curtain #3 - and this time he
takes it. He gives up $50 and instead gets a hardware
chest and tools worth $878.
It's time for the Gran Trato, and Leticia and Victoriano
will be going for it. Leticia goes for Door #1 and
Victoriano goes for Door #2. No one took door #3, and
today is has a washer-dryer and a $250 certificate to
Marshall's for a total of $2,118. Next up - Door #2,
which has $700 for Victoriano. Door #1 has much more for
Leticia, as she's going on a Trip to Miami and then
returning to a nice bedroom set. The total value of the
Gran Trato is $5,026 - which is a nice way to end the
show. We'll see if we can give out more happy endings
tomorrow. |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
Last week, Karen
Heussner (Houston, TX) reached $25,000, and she only
used one lifeline on the way. Can she make it all the
way to the million?
We see how Karen reacted when she got the $25,000
question right. She seemed to be quite excited for
someone who didn't get any sleep the night before.
Imagine how she'd react if she can get 5 more questions
right. Anyway, she resumes with a question asking what
type of snake the longest snake ever recorded, at almost
33 feet, was. She doesn't know that it's a python, so
she switches it out for this alternate $50,000
question...
In July 2004, over 1,000 radio stations simultaneously
played what Elvis song to mark 50 years of rock and
roll?
A: Shake Rattle and Roll
B: That's All Right
C: My Baby Left Me
D: Mystery Train
Karen uses the 50:50, which leaves B and D. Then, after
some consideration, she says B... and she's right! She
screams for joy, then moves on to this for $100,000...
In 1951, the first UNIVAC computer was used to help what
U.S. agency process information?
A: IRS
B: Social Security Admin.
C: U.S. Post Office
D: Census Bureau
Karen decides to call her good friend Hank, but before
hearing the choices, he says Department of Defense.
Yeah, this is why it's usually best to wait and hear the
choices first. Then, after Karen gives the 4 choices,
Hank doesn't have enough time to give an answer that
isn't off the board. So, Karen, who has no clue, chooses
to walk. The answer was D, but that's alright, because
Karen is heading home with $50,000!
Mike Beede (Las Vegas, NV) is the next player to take on
the hot seat. Upon graduating from college, he is
considering 2 options: graduate school, or buying a
motorcycle and riding across South America. Heck, with a
million dollars, he could eventually do both! So, Mike
starts by knowing that the expression "chip off the old
block" is usually used to refer to the similarities
between parent and child. A couple of questions later,
and he comes up to this, worth $500...
In the U.S., what honorary title is commonly used to
indicate that someone is a lawyer?
A: Baron
B: Marquis
C: Prince
D: Esquire
Mike is stuck on this one, so he asks the audience. 87%
of the studio audience and 56% of the AIM users go with
D, and so does Mike... and they're right! Another few
questions later, and he gets to the $8,000 level, where
he is asked this...
A mint julep is traditionally made with mint, sugar and
what type of alcohol?
A: Vermouth
B: Vodka
C: Gin
D: Bourbon
Mike is only 20 years old, so one would expect him to
not know this. And those who think that would be
correct. Meredith says she knows the answer, though. But
Mike isn't getting the answer from her, so he calls his
brother John, who is 23. John says B, but he's only 20%
sure. That's not enough, so Mike uses the 50:50. Guess
what? B is now gone, along with A. So much for the 20%.
Then, after some consideration, Mike decides to go for
it and go with C... but it's D! Ouch. Well, at least he
does get $1,000, though that might not be enough to
cover either graduate school or the motorcycle/South
America thing.
Next up is Dr. Megan Ryan (San Diego, CA). She is a Navy
physician, and she is in uniform here. And no, she
didn't know the answer to the previous question, either.
Anyway, Megan starts by knowing that someone who is said
to be "drawing a blank" is unable to remember something
(being unable to win at Pictionary would likely mean
drawing nothing at all). She then goes through questions
like one that asks what musical genre's name also means
"the absolute truth" (gospel), on her way to reaching
$2,000.
And that's it for today. Dr. Megan will be looking to
continue her climb up the proverbial ladder tomorrow. |
