Time to put out
the flames of this week's competition. Round
1: something a person might be chasing (6). Capt. Mike

for 57. Other answers: love interest, money
Round 2: if you
became a billionaire today, something you would get rid
of tomorrow (5). Kendall gets #1, the house. "So you get
a billion dollars, and immediately you're homeless."
Then comes job, car, bills, and spouse for the 80-point
sweep.
Double Round: a
beautiful actress named Jennifer (5). Mike gets the
fiver, Jennifer Love Hewitt. Pete corrects Dave's fault
with #2, Jennifer Aniston. Spencer gets #4, Jennifer
Garner. Kendall scores top of the board with J-Lo,

Haleigh Cotter and
the Contestant's Row. Nice ring to it. She joins Bonita
Parker, Peter Hector, and Lenora Pratt in bidding on a
game room package with a foosball table, dartboard, and
an air hockey table. After Haleigh tries to bid zero
(this is relevant), Lenora gets her game on and plays
the game of Coming or Going for a trip to Mazatlan. Is
she coming at $4052 or going at $2504? She's coming...
and she's going... right back into the audience without
the trip.
Back to Haleigh for a sec, though. Once she gets a grasp
on the rules, she does win a sofa in round 2. Now she
goes to punch for $10,000. After she gets a shaver, a
sound machine, and an atomic alarm clock, she gets
another zero... three of them, picking up $1000. Told
you it was relevant.
Bonita Parker
scores a computer with printer in round 3, getting a
chance at a collection of horror DVDs, a chopper, a
karaoke machine... and a Dodge Dakota! The game, of
course, is Line'em Up. First number, 2. Last number, 9.
The DVDs are $279. The chopper is $18. The karaoke is
$739. She lines up $22,839 to start... only one right.
She then adjusts to $27,899... total suck-out. It was
$22,179. She'd also suck out at the wheel, as Lenora
wins the first Showdown round.
Peter Hector of
the Airborne drops onto stage thanks to a range. A
dining room and hot tub can also be his if he can
Pick-a-Pair of products that have the same price. The
products: Fisher mixed nuts, Tresemme' conditioner, Gold
Bond lotion, Cherryman cherries, Tums, and Jolly Time
marshmallow popcorn. He starts with the popcorn and the
nuts. The popcorn is $2.29. The nuts... $6.49. One more
try. He goes with the popcorn and pairs it with the
cherries... and that's a win!
Rosella Lohr
wins a luggage set in round 5, and takes it on a
Shopping Spree, where she can load up on a safe, home
gym, cradle, and a tennis ball machine. The aim: spend
$7000. She goes with the safe at $2097, the home gym at
$1668, and the cradle at $3375 for win #2!
We can have a
perfect second-half if Nathan Jones, who just won a
chest, can crack Safe Crackers for a Ford Focus and a
weather station. Combination is the same as the weather
station. The numbers are 0, 6, and 7. He sets the
combination at 760. And the safe... opens! A win for the
Navy! But it's the Army who comes out on top as Peter
goes on to the Showcase...
... which begins
with screens: a three-panel screen, an LCD TV screen,
and a Chrysler 300C... with a screen of some sort. Top
winner Peter keeps it and bids $22,600. Meanwhile Lenora
gets a new dining room with dinnerware, ice cream cakes
from Coldstone (yay Coldstone!), and two off-road bikes.
Lenora bids $16,800. Actual price: $17,574. Actual price
of Peter's Showcase: $44,281. This one goes to Lenora,
as she takes home $18,574. But the earlier car win makes
Nathan the big winner this day.
Stats: 3-3,
$52,041. |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Time to cap off
another week of Millionaire...
Starting today's episode is Dyan DeCastro (Fairfield,
CT). And what does she want to do with her winnings? She
wants to "pimp her ride"! In this case, the ride is a
minivan. The reason for this is because Dyan's kids want
a TV, a DVD player, and some other stuff in the minivan.
And they encouraged her to get on this show, so she
tried, and now, she's here. And Dyan starts by knowing
that according to a well-known saying, "all good things
must come to an end". She is moving along quite well,
answering questions like one that asks what Looney Tunes
character starred in a 1949 Oscar-winning short called
"For Scent-Imental Reasons" (Pepé Le Pew). Then, along
comes this at the $4,000 level...
A popular Christmas decoration in the Southwest,
luminarias traditionally consist of candles placed
inside of what?
A: Tin cans
B: Paper bags
C: Straw baskets
D: Bowls of water
Dyan decides to ask the audience, and 71% of the studio
audience says B, while 58% of the AIM users also say B.
Dyan goes with the consensus and locks in B... and it's
B! Next up, this $8,000 question...
In 2005, what MLB team moved to D.C. and became the
Washington Nationals?
A: Montreal Expos
B: Milwaukee Brewers
C: Seattle Mariners
D: Kansas City Royals
Dyan calls her "old, old buddy", Renee, who is positive
that it's A. So, she goes with that... and she's right!
She then has this for $16,000...
In the USDA grading system, the highest quality beef
falls into what category?
A: Choice
B: Select
C: Prime
D: Commercial
The 50:50 leaves B and C. But that's not enough for Dyan
to answer, so she decides to walk. The answer was C, but
she does have $8,000 to go towards making that minivan
of hers better for her kids!
Up next is Karen Heussner (Houston, TX). She had a hard
time getting from Houston to NYC, because a couple of
connecting flights she took to make the trip had each
been delayed, causing her to arrive at 4AM. (Good thing
this isn't the Amazing Race, then.) And she didn't get a
chance to sleep before entering the hot seat here. So,
they might as well get going before she suddenly dozes
off. Karen begins by knowing that "Ms." is often used
instead of "Mrs." or "Miss" to avoid disclosing a
woman's marital status. She then continues on through
her stack of questions, and on the way, she faces this
$8,000 question...
Of the musical syllables do, re, mi, fa, sol, la and ti,
how many also happen to be U.S. state postal
abbreviations?
A: 1
B: 2
C: 3
D: 4
Karen goes to the audience for help, and they come
through, with 87% of the studio audience and 49% of the
AIM users picking B. So, she says B... and they're
right! Another question later, and Karen is asked what
the seamlike joints between the bones of the skull are
called. She considers the options for a bit, before
deciding that it's sutures. She locks it in... and she
has $25,000!
And the horn goes off, capping off the week. Karen is in
good shape to go farther, and next time, we'll see if
she will. |
