LA County FD
(Bill, Hunter, Jayd, Jerry, Robert, Carrie, Doc) for
the Red Cross; $20,000 |
|
Atlanta FD
(Dennis, Cynthia, Dave, Sharyl, Paul) for First
Responders Relief Fund |
Having just
smote FDNY, LA County takes on Hotlanta today. BTW, my
friend Virginia, who runs a kennel, would have a fit if
I didn't say that we in error called Doc "Jay". Our
mistake. Round 1: if women are born to shop, what are
men born to do (6). Dennis sports for #2. Cynthia gets
her drink on at #3. Dave: "We were born to be lovers."
Good for 5. But number one comes from Paul, provide
(under work/make money). LA thinks they have the steal
from "yard maintenance". Thing again. Atlanta gets 69.
Other answer: shop/spend money, sleep/lounge.
Round 2: 100
men, which magazine cover would you like to be asked to
pose for (6). Jayd gets the big one, Sports Illustrated.
Other nice covers: Playgirl (courtesy Carrie & Doc) and
GQ (courtesy Bill & Hunter). Atlanta tries to steal with
Time... Good for 107. Other answer: People, Rolling
Stone.
Double Round: a
state where 100 degree temperatures are common (5).
Jerry gets #1, Arizona. That's about right. Also right,
Nevada, California, Florida, and Texas for 190.
Triple Round: a
circus animal that would be much happier living in the
jungle
(4). Sharyl hits money with tiger. Elephants, monkeys,
and lions sweep it for the Dirty Dirty, 401-190.
Cynthia gets 109
in Fast Money, leaving Dave to get the remaining 91.
That's exactly what he does, giving Atlanta $20,000 for
First Responders Reflief Fund. |

Let's get down with
a Tuesday at 7800. Here we go.
Contestant David Williams, a 1st Sergeant in the Army
although not in uniform, captures a NordicTrack
elliptical cross trainer ($1000) AND the $500 stash to
play Make Your Move for a CD player/clock radio, a
Broyhill Elk River bench, and a 6-night trip to Alaska.
Initial setup: 3 1 2 7 9 0 6 2 5. Pretty easy set,
right? It was for David. Alaska for $3127, Radio for
$90, and bench for $625. Winner #1 right outta the gate.
Next, contestant Shawn Stewart claimed a stainless steel
refrigerator/freezer, valued at $1149, and took to the
Turntable to play Spelling Bee for a Ford Focus ZX4SE
($17,150). With her free cards (7 & 27), and the one
card she earned out of three (#20 with a metal coin
bank), she managed to spell a tribute to Credence
Clearwater Revival ("C C R"), but not CAR. When the "R"
came up under card #7, Bob put it in the "A" spot, and
said to the crowd, "Anyone can have trouble with these
big words."
Let's try for a winner. Contestant Paul Miller, one of
the first four and coming from the far back corner,
claimed a set of Hippo his & her golf clubs ($798)
following an overbid. His game: Freeze Frame for a Brass
Beds of Virginia bed with a Dormia.com sleep set.
Unfortunately, Paul froze one frame too early at $3466.
Price: $4234.
In the second half, things turned skyward. Contestant
Margo Tucker make quick work of Hi Lo after winning a
set of SportsStuff towables ($969). She won a
Vaughan-Bassett dining room with Formalities dinnerware.
Contestant Brian Foster, who in the earlier overbid
tried to bid the "lower than" limit of $800, but ended
up winning a Couristan area rug to play Switch? for a
wagon popcorn machine and a Howard Miller floor clock,
set at $3925 and $2940 respectively. Brian switched and
won 'em both.
Last but not least, contestant Mike Richmond captured an
electric fireplace from Vermont Castings ($999) and
played Dice Game for a Chrysler PT Cruiser. His rolls:
3, called higher; 6, called lower; 5 called lower; 4,
called higher. You'd think that going against the odds
would be a sure loss, especially on the last number, but
you would be wrong. Mike called all rolls correct and
rounded out a perfect second half.
Now, to the Showcases. Your Top Winner: Overbid Brian.
Your Runner-Up: Sgt. David. Showcase #1 gave us some
home improvement tips with a set of Worx power tools, a
Murray Mosconi pool table, and a pair of Honda CRF 250X
motorcycles. Brian passed to David, who bid $12,000.
Showcase #2 starred Lanisha as Mindy the Mooch. The
prizes offered were a Sharp Aquos 20" TV, a trip to
Hawaii (6 nights @ Hawaii Naniloa), and a 20' Reinell
speedboat. Brian's bid was $25,250.
This was a close one. Brian's Showcase ARP: $32,113 for
a difference of $6863. David's Showcase ARP: $19,146 for
a difference of $7146. Brian wins the photo finish and
walks with $40,577 in stuff.
STATS: 4/6; $69,427 |

Our first deal for
the day features Sonya the Sumo and Uriel the Cowboy.
The lovely Elizabeth shows both of them a washer and
dryer worth $1,098. Guillermo says that the washer and
dryer is both theirs - unless they want the box. Neither
of them want the box, and neither of them get a guitar
worth $450. Guillermo shows them both what's in his
pocket - a case of Derman - and says that they can have
that - and adds that there's money inside. That is
enough for Sonya and Uriel to go for the Derman, and
inside that is....$300, which is a huge step down.
Guillermo has one last deal for them - and it's behind
Curtain #1. Sonya will trade the money away, but Uriel
wants the money. Only Sonya gets a magic Crystal Chasco
Ball, but they could have both have had a prize worth
more than $1,000. Que lastima.
Santos is dressed in a bear/monkey outfit, and he has
the next deal. He gets to select one of the makeup kits
in the Bolero de Raquel, and he selects the purple one
(leaving the orange one for Guillermo). In the orange
one - $100. We will open the purple one - but first he
can trade it for curtain #2, which he does. In the
purple makeup case - also $100, which means that Santos
has a nice deal. How nice? a pair of mini motorcycles
worth $1,098! Muy Bueno!
Who wants pie? We have 6 pies up for grabs, and Rosana
the beauty queen, Cindy the dolly and Letitia the Belly
Dancer will be able to partake the pies. Inside each pie
is money - from $10 to $1,000. Rosana takes pie #4,
Cynthia wants #6 and Cindy wants #5. Does Rosana want to
trade her pie for Curtain #2? Yes she does, and gives
up...$1,000! However, instead of a Chasco, she gets a
Trip to Palm Springs and a $600 certificate for a total
of $1,400! Letitia decides to also give her torte away
for a curtain - this time Curtain #1, and this time, she
only has $200. Does she get something good? Nooooo - she
gets the broom that the wizard with the crystal ball had
earlier for a Chasco. Me thinks Guillermo screwed up.
Cindy also gives up the pie for the box, and she gives
up $300 for it. What does she get? A Pair of bicycles
worth $540, which is not a bad deal.
It's time for the Gran Trato! Rosana gives away the trip
to Palm Springs and Santos gives up the mini-scooters.
Rosana takes Door #3 and Santos takes Door #1 - which
we'll look at first, as it's worth $800. Rosana doesn't
get the Gran Trato, but she does get a refrigerator,
stove and dishwasher combo worth $2,097. That's very
nice, but not as nice as what was under Door #2, which
is a nice vacation to Cabos San Lucas and a new bedroom
set and watches. The total value, which no one will be
winning, is $5,161. Will tomorrow's traders do any
better? We'll have to tune in and see. |

Sherrie Super
(Huntsville, AL) is back after only having time to get
to $200 yesterday. She'll have lots more time today;
let's see how much of it she'll spend here.
Though she's a writer for NASA, she's also a fortune
teller. Seriously. She didn't make any predictions for
herself, though, but her mother, also a fortune teller,
predicted that she'll do really great. I guess we'll see
in due time, then. Sherrie resumes by knowing that
according to an old-fashioned saying, "Hey is for
horses". She moves along well, answering other questions
like one that asks during what culinary process are
curds and whey created (making cheese), before getting
to this $8,000 question...
In the 2005 film "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," a painful
chest hair removal procedure causes Andy to yell out
what celebrity's name?
A: Ashlee Simpson
B: Kylie Minogue
C: Mandy Moore
D: Kelly Clarkson
Sherrie decides to ask the audience. 51% of the studio
audience and 70% of the AIM users say D, so that's what
Sherrie goes with... and they're right! Another question
later, and she has this for $25,000...
Once known as the "Tears of St. Lawrence," the Perseid
meteor shower is visible from Earth during which of
these months?
A: February
B: May
C: August
D: November
Sherrie calls a co-worker, Mitzi, who is 100% sure that
it's C. She goes ahead and trusts her, going with C...
and she has $25,000! Then, after knowing that a friendly
"ghost-story" competition initiated by poet Lord Byron
resulted in the creation of the fictional character
"Frankenstein's monster", she faces this question, worth
$100,000...
Tatanka-lyotanka, the famous head chief of the Lakota
nation, is better known by what name?
A: Geronimo
B: Sitting Bull
C: Crazy Horse
D: Chief Joseph
Sherrie says that A was an Apache, and that D was a
Cherokee. So, after narrowing it down a bit, she uses
the 50:50, likely hoping that one of the others would be
removed. Guess what? B and D remain. So, though she's
starting to doubt what she said about D, she goes with
B... and she's right! Then, at the $250,000 level,
Sherrie doesn't know what breed of dog won Best in Show
at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show a record 13
times (wire fox terrier), so she switches it out for
this alternate $250,000 question...
The world's first nuclear reactor was built in 1942 in
what unusual location on the University of Chicago
campus?
A: Chapel basement
B: Frat house dining hall
C: Ice rink
D: Squash court
Unfortunately, Sherrie doesn't know this one, either, so
she walks. Well, her mother said she'd do really great,
and since Sherrie is taking home $100,000, I'd say that
prediction was right! (BTW, the answer was D.)
Up next is Scott Holbert (San Diego, CA). He's with the
Navy, but he hasn't actually been out to sea yet. At the
time of this taping, his fiancé is on the U.S.S. Ronald
Reagan, and they plan on getting married soon. Scott
begins by knowing that according to popular legend,
pirates preferred to dispose of prisoners by making them
walk the plank. He then gets through some more
questions, like one that asks what ancient Greek school
of philosophy lends its name to a word meaning
"unaffected by emotion" (stoic), and he gets to $2,000.
That's all for now. Scott will return tomorrow to
continue climbing towards the million. |
