Bobo
(Casey, Kimette,
Cher'ron, Inous, Margie); $21,405, three days |
|
Parsons
(Tim, Charise, Tiffany, Chantal, Taryn) from Queens, NY |
The Bobos get
one more, then it's off to Disneyland. Round 1:
something a woman does for beauty that a man also does (6).
Tim gets his hair done for #1, while Casey gets a
manicure. Also: showers and shaves. The Bobos can steal
with get dressed up. Not there, the Parsons have 81.
Other answer: gets facial/mask, uses face cream.
Round 2:
something that might be referred to as "juicy" (7).
Kimette gets #1, fruit. Other juicy things: gossip, gum,
"a female", and a steak. The Parsons have a shot at it
with candy. "With a juicy center." Not good enough, as
the Bobos get 93. Other answers: lips/kiss, turkey.
Double Round:
a way people warm up their cold feet in bed (5).
Cher'ron: "With HIS legs." #2. Tiffany: "Socks." #1. You
can also cover with a blanket or rub them. The Bobos try
to steal with a heating pad. Not there! The Parsons are
up to 273. Other answer: hot water bottle (said... by
Richard).
Triple Round:
something that happened to Pinocchio (4). Chantal gets
#1, his nose grew. He was also swallowed by a whale and
turned into a real boy. But was he a liar? Of course!
The Parsons sweep to win, 558-93.
Siblings Tim &
Taryn are going for the Fast Money today. Tim scores #1s
for "after a woman picks out her future husband,
something else she picks out" (dress) and "something
associated with Halloween" (pumpkins) for 118. Taryn
scores for "highest weight possible for a household
scale" (300 lbs) and "besides lips, a part of the body
that people kiss" (cheeks) for the big kiss, $20,000. |

Maria Wenglinski
(teacher orig. from Salt Lake City); $52,600; two
days |
|
David
Braxton
(television producer from Hyattsville, MD) |
|
Leslie Burns-Dell'Acqua
(creative marketing consultant from San Diego) |
After a slow
start, Maria, a rarity in J! lore, is a woman on full
tilt as she enters her third match with a returning
challenger in Leslie (she was bitten by a technicality
in the Final a year or so ago). So those anxiously
awaiting her return, there you go. Maria starts with
$200 National Historic Sites. Right away she runs into
the Daily Double under $400, betting the max of $1000.
The clue: the Greenville, Tennessee historic site
honoring this President preserves his two homes, tailor
shop & gravesite. "Who is Johnson?" Alex: "Which one?"
Maria: "Andrew?" Right Johnson for $1200. She takes the
game... then loses it... then gets it back again, going
into the TV time out with $2000 to David's $3000 (his
specialty category: TV DOA). Leslie is also in it for
the moment at $1800.
Interestingly
enough, the last two categories in play were Diana and
"Ross". David is so far supreme with $5000 to Maria's
$4800. Leslie, still in it with $4000, starts Double
Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Before & After, finding the first Daily Double under the
$1200 level. Having just taken the lead, she pushes
$3000 out. The clue: Dutch-born king who ruled England
jointly with Mary II & is a tasty New Zealand fish.
"What is William of Orange Ruffie?" Right for $8200.
Marian enters a surreal zone and is in the lead by the
time she gets to the second Daily Double, $2000 18th
Century Britain. She bets $2500 on the other name of the
Royal Highland Regiment. "What is the Black Watch?" It's
anyone's game going into the Final, as Maria leads,
$16,900, Leslie follows, $12,200, and David trails,
$9000.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Famous Expressions": this cliché about
superfluousness is derived from criticism of a 2nd
coronation in Shakespeare's "King John". Correct question:
What is gilding the lily?
David is right.
He bets everything. Leslie is right. She bets
everything. Maria needs to wager $7500 or else Leslie
returns as champ... But she is notorious for making the
big play. And she does just that, returning tomorrow
with another $29,100 and a three-day total of $81,700.

Let's see...
Halloween, check. All Saints, check. This must be Dia de
los Muertos en el 33. Let's see who lives and who dies.
Jennifer Peterson runs on stage in round 1 to take a
treadmill, but can she avoid maxing out her Credit Card?
The "wonderful array of prizes" today: a stroller, small
appliances, an LCD TV, a cradle, and a set of cordless
telephones. The credit limit: $2000. She buys the phones
for $340, the stroller, and the appliances for the win,
making it look easy.
Cindy Adams is down
and up thanks to a lounge chair (with a bonus of a
Rummikub game). But now it's time for the big prize: a
Pontiac Vibe. But that's not all. She can also win an RC
car, a chopper, a cookie press, and a rechargeable
shaver playing Switcheroo. After the first 30, she gets
one right. Not content with that, she goes for another
30. She gets two. She wouldn't have gotten the car
either switch, but she does win the RC car (grrr) and
the chopper.
US Marine
(OOH-rah!) Kevin Robertson wins a pair of train sets.
But don't use those in your spa, if you win it. The game
is Coming ($4335) or Going ($5334). He "goes", and he's
going to relax in that spa! But Cindy is going to the
Showcase this half.
Tracy Steinbeck
picks up a Tee & Cue table for round 4, but can she pick
up a riding mower, four girl guitars, and a dinette?
It's all or nothing in Most Expensive. She goes for the
dinette... and it's the most expensive!
Diane Buckley
takes a gas range from the TPIR choo-choo (the theme
today is trains), as she gets to play for a catamaran in
Now (today) or Then (August 1998). On the wheel: Fresh
Step cat litter, Aspercreme, Fiji bottled water,
Westbrae Organics salad beans, Baby Magic bath soap, and
Colgate toothpaste. First up, the toothpaste at $2.39.
She says THEN. She's right. She goes with bath soap at
$4.0, saying NOW. It was THEN. Time to go the other way
round with the kitty litter at $7.29, saying NOW. It's
NOW. All she needs is to get the Aspercreme at $3.42.
She says THEN... it isn't.
Whitney Moore
knocks first-four member Nicholas Gamse out of the
running with a telescope. The bride-to-be plays One Away
for a Ford Mustang. The price is NOT $31,874. She
adjusts to $22,965. She gets three horns, changing it up
to $22,785. She should've changed the second 2 and the
6. And Tracy knocks Whitney out of the Showcase, as she
goes on to face Cindy.
Showcase time!
First up, a living room with carpeting, three sets of
celebrity luggage, and six nights in Bangkok. Tracy's
humbled, but she passes to Cindy, who bids $12,500.
Tracy gets to see Gabrielle's anger management with a
freezer chest, $1000, and a Ford Explorer. She tags it
at $23,595, a difference of $5239. Not bad. Over to
Cindy, whose actual price is... $16,198, a difference of
$3698. Cindy's the big winner with $18,016.
And I have to
agree with Travis today that it's getting a bit chintzy.
The totals: 3/6, $41,226. |

Lemo
(23;
Dallas; singer); Southern charmer, loves all genres
of music despite looking like an R&B singer |
|
Matt
(24; Salem, OR; guitarist); love Stevie Wonder and
Maroon5, rates songwriting skills at 8.7 |
|
Monique
Craig (19;
Orange County, CA; lifeguard); dreams of owning a
record company and a nightclub, can play any
instrument she picks up |
A chick from the
OC delivers these words of wisdom: Monique, bonfire
("That's how we did it in the OC"), speed (adrenaline
junkie), stargazers (favorite flower). Oh yeah, and no
unrealistic scenarios or cliches. Way to make it harder.
Now the prize: how's Puerto Vallarta sound?
First in the writing room,
Lemo wants to take on funky & smooth neo-soul. think Jill Scott or
PM Dawn. He still needs to find a "two-chord progression," you
know, just to make it easier on Ryan. Meanwhile, Matt is
auditioned on his cherry axe. And his ability to snap on the band.
Ouch, dude... Ryan's notes on Lemo: Monique doesn't want a snappy
song, but Lemo wants to slow it down. Could be a big mistake.
*Switch? music plays* Matt
wants to write a different prospective on the acoustic rock love
song. He's thinking "have you seen Monique?" So he's telling a
story about a bonfire. Could work. Lemo... has no words yet. Or he
does, but they're all rubbish. And he's singing in falsetto...
when he's not going to sing the song in falsetto. Ryan's notes on
Matt while he figures out what a horticulturalist is: a cute
theme. "I hope she likes it."
Okay, stop moaning, we'll
take you to the Avalon for performances. Monique wants to be blown
away by something she's never heard before. Lemo's first, dressed
like Gene Rayburn back in the day. He sings "Monique". There's the
falsetto that he SWORE he wouldn't use. It just kills the song,
really. "Wow." Translation... "Okay..."
Next up, Matt busts out
"Have You Seen Monique?" Not bad. Very creative use of the words.
"I definitely dug that. That was hot."
Okay, seems like the
odds-on favorite is Matt. Monique has chosen... Matt! And Lemo is
left to get rid of his stock cheese.

Yesterday, Pam
Fitzsimmons (New York, NY) got through 6 questions
without a problem, reaching the $2,000 level. Let's see
if she can continue on her way...
There has been at least one instance where once Pam
found her way home (it was mentioned yesterday that she
tends to easily get lost), she seemed to have trouble
getting out of her car. And she once tried to use
boiling water to de-ice the car, but the water just
froze, making it harder. She eventually needed help in
getting out. Hopefully, she won't need much help here.
Pam resumes the game by knowing that a person contracts
the orbicularis oculi muscle in order to wink. She then
faces this question for $8,000...
In the 2003 movie "Finding Nemo," the sea gulls
repeatedly squawk what word?
A: Thief!
B: Mine!
C: Seafood!
D: Trouble!
Pam needs some help, so she asks the audience. 63% of
the studio audience and 81% of the AIM users pick B,
which Pam then goes with... and they're right! On to
$16,000...
When their perimeters are of equal length, which of
these shapes always has the largest area?
A: Square
B: Triangle
C: Circle
D: Hexagon
The 50:50 leaves B and C. Pam then calls her husband,
Jim, who says C. When asked how sure he is, he says 80%,
but at first, Pam thought she heard 8%. (I thought I
heard 8% at first too, but after rewinding the tape and
hearing it again, I can confirm that Jim said 80%.) But
eventually, she believes that he said 80%, then trusts
him and goes with C... and it's C! Then, on the $25,000
question, Pam guesses that in 1981, President Reagan was
shot minutes after delivering an address to members of
the AARP... but it's not the AARP! It's the AFL-CIO! She
took the chance, but at least Pam has $1,000.
Up next: Lisa Razon (Old Bethpage, NY). This isn't her
first TV appearance, though; she has been on "Dateline"
once for the topic "Husbands That Don't Help", and again
for "Husbands That Don't Clean". I'm sensing a theme...
At least her husband showed up to watch her go for the
million, so things seem to be fine with them. Anyway,
Lisa starts by knowing the title of the 1873 novel
"Around the World in Eighty Days" (I'd hope it wouldn't
take that long to get around a Costco parking lot). She
moves along through the game, soon making it to this
$4,000 question...
With almost 200 signatories, the NPT is a vital
international treaty aimed at the non-proliferation of
what?
A: Child poverty
B: Global warming
C: Nuclear weapons
D: Illegal immigration
Lisa turns to the audience for some help, and 77% of the
studio audience goes with C, while 48% of the AIM users
also go with C. She trusts them... and it's C! Lisa then
uses the 50:50 to confirm her inkling that pepper comes
from the berries of a plant, before reaching this one
for $16,000...
According to its mission statement, what preacher's
Oklahoma university was "founded in the fires of
evangelism" in 1963?
A: Oral Roberts
B: Billy Graham
C: Pat Robertson
D: Jerry Falwell
Lisa calls Ash, the husband of "Dateline's" producer. He
says A right away, and she goes with that... and she's
up to $16,000!
And that's it for today. Lisa will return tomorrow,
albeit without any lifelines. |
