Bobo
(Casey, Kimette,
Cher'ron, Inous, Margie); $20,880, two days |
|
Senerchia (Desiree, Vinny, Gidget,
Mark, Jayme) from Queens, NY |
You're not
reading double. For the second time in two weeks, a
technical fault forces a family back into a rematch.
Round 1: a questino single women hate to be asked (6).
"How old are you?" is number 2, but Desiree gets #1,
"Don't you want to get married?" Nothing from that
control, which gives the Bobos the option with "about my
weight." It's good for 77. Other answers: Are you
dating?, Zodiac sign?, Are you gay?
Remember, the
non-scientific opinion of 100 average Americans. Round 2:
a specific place at the office where people sneak off
for romantic encounters (7). Supply closet is good for
#2, giving the Bobos control. Cher'ron gets #1, the
closet. Also on the board: bathroom, copy room, break
room. The Senerchias try and steal with the conference
room. Good for 81 and the lead. Other answer: stairwell.
Double Round:
something that's big and yellow (full board). Gidget
gets #3, the sun, but elects to pass. Inous gets #2, Big
Bird. Kimette gets #4, a banana. The Senerchias steal
with a school bus, giving them #1 and 181. Other
answers: squash, taxicab.
Triple Round: a
holiday or an occasion that's fun for kids but work for
parents (4). Inous gets #1, Christmas. Birthdays,
Easter, and Halloween sweep it for the champs, 341-181
Casey & Kimette
try to duplicate yesterday's Fast Money feat, but they
only manage $525 for a three day take of $21,405. |

Maria Wenglinski
(teacher orig. from Salt Lake City); $6000 |
|
Jeremy Evans
(tech advisor from Inglewood, OH) |
|
Philip Huang
(attorney from Irvine, CA) |
A visit to
Avenue Q is in the offing today. If you've seen it, you
know that it's definitely NOT for the kids, despite the
use of puppetry. Maria starts this match with $200 in
Dr. Phil, Shakespearean Counselor, but Jeremy takes over
and finds the Daily Double under $1000 Name the Year.
With $1400 and the lead, he goes all-in. The clue: the
United Nations officially came into existence on October
24 of this year. "What is 1948?" Nope, it was 1945.
Luckily it's still early.
It's break time,
and Maria leads it, $7299 to Philip's $3200. Meanwhile,
Jeremy, at $1600 and never fully recovering from that
early Daily Double sting, needs to find a rhythm as he
starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Puppetry on Broadway. First Daily Double goes to Maria
at $1600 Even Stephen. With a big lead, she fronts $5000
on the senator who advocated annexing Cuba in 1847. "Who
is Stephen Douglas?" Correct for $20,600. Maria also
gets the second, $1200 Alliterative Responses. With
$24,600, she goes $5000 again. The clue: this term's
original meaning was cash that a woman carries on a date
in case she has to ditch her escort. "What is mad
money?" Right for $29,600. And it's hers to lose at
$31,600 to Philip's $7600 and Jeremy's $4400. She is
scary good. Time for a shootout.
Final Jeopardy! in
"The Old West": this outlaw's father, a
minister, gave him his first & middle names after an
18th Century English clergyman. Correct query: Who was
John Wesley Hardin?
You remember
what I said about Maria being scary good? I meant it.
She adds another $15,000 to today's total, giving her
$46,600 for today, and $52,600 for two days. |

All Saint's Day is
upon the crew at 7800. Behold the happenings and the
goings-on!
Contestant Chris Barbera (no relation), after capturing
a Honda CRF 150 motorcycle ($3064), he had his chance at
10 Large in 1/2 Off. Barbera swept thru his 6 small
prizes (toaster oven, 20Q game, laser measurer, desk
clock/radio/calculator, coin sorter, retro phone) and
took the boxes to 10 and 15. His pick, 10, turned up
empty. Stash was in lucky 15.
Next act, contestant Jocylene Boes snagged a Whirlpool
fridge/freezer valued at $999. Put on your running
shoes, Miss Boes, it's Race Game time. Here are your
prices: $670, $960, $1399, $1687. Your prizes: a Dell
computer, Rosenthal crystal stemware, SportsArt C51R
recumbent bike, Snow King snow blower. Her first two
tries at the tags yielded no correct answers. After her
third placing (1687 670 960 1399), the display read (1)
but she actually got (2) right. She made one final
change with 3 seconds remaining and had (1) right.
However, and these were Bob's paraphrased words, since
the display error may have confused her, she gets all
four prizes. Our first TECHNICAL WIN of the season, IINM.
How are we to follow up the Race Game debacle? How about
with another 1-bid and pricing game? Sounds good to
contestant Scott Gutman. He took away from the Row a set
of DK gardening books, valued at $640. Swing the
Turntable 'round for Any Number for an Ashley Casa
Mollino Claret sofa or a Ford Focus ZXWSE. After only 7
selections, he won the car ($18,625). Here's how the
board looked to reveal all prices:
Car 1 8 6 2
5
Sofa 9 1 0
Bank 7.3 4
Gutman was so elated about his win, he BOUNDED off the
Turntable, ran across the stage, shook hands with Rich
(who proceeded to laugh like a madman), ran back to the
Turntable, then (directed by Bob) shook hands with Jeff
and Barney. Fade to break with Bob laughing as hard as
Rich.
Let's change things up for Act IV, shall we? Let's have
a set of SportStuff pool and beach lounges valued at
$630. Let's have contestant James Laban, and have him
play Double Prices behind the Giant Price Tag (!) for a
Ridgeway Lexington grandfather clock. Let's also have
Laban pick $3150 over $2475. Did he win? Of course.
Moving on...
From grandfather clocks to electric fireplaces.
Contestant Ashley Sherman claimed a Dimplex Symphony
Ovation fireplace ($1199) and played Dice Game for a
Ford F150. Here's how the game went:
[5] 5 [4][ ]
[1] 1 4 4 2 $15,541 LOSS
[ ][4] 1
Sorry, Ashley.
Let's wrap things up in the Game Gauntlet with
19-year-old birthday girl Eunice Chun. She captured a
$999 Pfaff sewing machine and played Hi Lo for a trip to
Mexico City and a set of Dan Deutsch sun specs, $4183.
Of the products; David sunflower seeds, Carapelli olive
oil, Flexitol heel balm, Jolly Time Healthy Pop,
Hershey's Syrup, and Citrucel fiber; she selected the
fiber ($12.25), the balm ($6.99), and the oil ($5.49)
and won a birthday vacation.
Let's head to the Showcases. The birthday girl is the
Top Winner and the 1/2 Off heartbreak is the Runner-Up
(after $1000 on the Wheel spun his way). Showcase #1
presented Daisy Dullard and her dreams of a better life.
A Motorola cell phone, a Corsican Coventry brass bed
with dormia.com mattress set, and a 10 night cruise to
Tahiti were the prizes that Eunice passed
(wait...PASSED?!?) to Chris. His bid: $12,995.
Showcase #2 contained a year's supply of FTD floral
arrangements (1 per month), a Broyhill King's Crossing
dining room with Noritake china, and a DH Baldwin
upright piano. Eunice's bid: $10,873 (?!).
Both bids weren't too bad today. Eunice was only $4252
off (ARP: $15,125). However, Chris was a might bit
closer, only $1998 off (ARP: $14,993). Chris's total
take: $19,361 (coulda been $29,361 had he taken 15).
STATS: 3/5 + 1 Technical; $54,502
REPORTER'S QUESTION: Is it me, or have the Showcases
been kinda chintzy this week thus far? Are they leading
up to something big? |

Olivia
(20;
Brooklyn, NY; singer); eats frogurt for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner |
|
Summer
(19; Sedona, AZ; songwriter); likes Tom Petty, wrote
songs as early as 5th grade |
|
Siaka Maskor (22;
Evanston, IL; former college runningback); name
means "chief" in Liberian culture, loves to dance,
played at Iowa, is a ninja |
Ryan promises a
former running back who can literally kill you before
you knew you were dead. How is this? Because he knows
ninjitsu. That's right, for the first time in recent
history, a ninja is on a game show. Siaka's words: Siaka,
runningback, dance, ninjitsu. On the line: a trip to
Cabo San Lucas.
First in the writing room,
Summer, who wants something "kinda swingy, kinda bluesy."
Meanwhile, Olivia wants to get jazzy. Meanwhile, she's a full a
cappella chorus within one person. That's... wow. Ryan's notes on
Summer: a little concerned with how to explain the song to the
band when you're not a musician.
Switch! Once again, Olivia
has no words, content in singing in "da da da". She wants to get
away from elevator music. She knows exactly what she wants.
Meanwhile, Summer needs to decide between 4/4 and 6/8 time... and
she needs to do it quickly. Olivia, meanwhile, wants to find a
pair of, say it with me now... maracas. Ryan's notes: two words...
NOT FINISHED!
Who wants to win their
very own ninja? Siaka is tucked away in isolation. Olivia is first
with "Back To You." Sounds like what Norah Jones would sound like
if she had a beat backing her. "Wow. The fact that she actually
got 'ninjitsu' in there and made it work is very impressive."
Summer thinks she has this
one in her belt. "Explore" is her song. "That was amazing. Just
the soul behind it."
Two interesting choices.
I'd be happy with either one of them. Five or ten seconds later,
Siaka makes his choice... He picked Summer. |

Yesterday, Mark
O'Byrne (New York, NY) got to the $16,000 level, with 1
lifeline left. How much farther will he go?
During the audition, when they announced the numbers of
those who passed the test, Mark thought that he didn't
hear his number, so he was on his way out. But then, he
asked the producers about one of the numbers, whether it
was 50 or 60. They said 50, which was his number. Talk
about a close call, eh? Anyway, the game resumes with
this question, worth $25,000...
The famous Woodstock music festival was staged in 1969
in what small New York town?
A: Rhinebeck
B: Bethel
C: Newburgh
D: Saugerties
Mark decides to call his twin brother, Mike, and he's
sure that it's D. Mark trusts him and goes with D... but
he's wrong! It's B! Ouch. And Just like that, Mark is
going home with $1,000, though I bet he's going to want
to talk to his brother about this.
Next up is Jose Torres (Perth Amboy, NJ). He apparently
has the type of smile that will let him sell just about
anything. And he says he's an honest salesman, though
"almost to a fault". Anyway, Jose starts by knowing that
by banning the sale of "intoxicated liquors," the
Constitution's 18th Amendment began a period in U.S.
history known as Prohibition (though I bet some
alcoholics from then would rather have referred to it as
a Huge Drag). After a few more questions, he attempts to
lock in $1,000 with this...
Which of these classic games comes equipped with a
timer?
A: Trivial Pursuit
B: Pictionary
C: Scrabble
D: Twister
Jose asks the audience. 77% of the studio audience and
75% of the AIM users pick B. Jose goes with that... and
he has $1,000! Soon enough, he then gets to this $4,000
question...
What television show is said to have been inspired by a
two-word memo that simply read "MTV Cops"?
A: Hill Street Blues
B: NYPD Blue
C: Miami Vice
D: Law & Order
The 50:50 leaves B and C. It's not enough help, though,
so Jose calls a co-worker, Matt. Matt is absolutely sure
that it's C, so Jose goes with that... and he's right!
He then gets to $8,000, but he has to stop at the
$16,000 level due to not knowing how many times greater
in magnitude a 7.0 earthquake is than a 5.0 earthquake
(100). But hey, $8,000 is not bad. It could have been
worse.
The next player is Pam Fitzsimmons (New York, NY), and
she tends to have trouble with directions. Good thing
the people backstage were kind enough to direct her to
where she needs to be. Pam starts by knowing that it's a
magician that is often referred to as an "illusionist"
(though some may say that a White House Press Secretary
could be considered a different type of "illusionist").
She has no problems along the way, knowing things such
as what the W in the police abbreviation SWAT stands for
(Weapons), and what state's ballots were available in
English, Spanish, Navajo, Apache, and Pueblo during the
2004 election (New Mexico), as she gets to $2,000.
And that's where they stop for today. Pam will be back
in the hot seat tomorrow. |
