STAY TUNED...

Family Feud by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or familyfeud.com
Host: Richard Karn
Guyovich (Toni, Maggie, Tom, Alex, Bernadette); $610
Hernandez (Rebecca, Gloria, Fernando, Robert, Hector)

Toni & company came up short in Fast Money, but can they get the big green today?  Round 1: one thing Pam Anderson is known for (5). Rebecca fires with number one, her boobs (Richard, a good friend of hers: "Wouldn't that be two things?"). Pam's also known for Baywatch, her looks, and Tommy Lee. For the record, "VIP" didn't make the list. The Guyoviches go with... that ... video. You know, the video? Nope. Well, it didn't make the survey anyway, so the Hernandez get the opening 91. Other answer: Playboy Magazine.

Round 2: something that starts with "a barrel of..." (5). Fun beats laughs, 2 to 3, as Gloria wins the faceoff. Fernando gets #1, monkeys. The Guyoviches try again with wine... Not there! The Hernandezes are up to 163. Other answers: beer (said!), money.

Double Round: something people lose that they replace quickly (5). Fernando gets #3, credit cards. Hector gets #5, money. Rebecca gets #4, cell phone. Gloria gets #1, keys. It's up to Fernando, he says ID... Sweep! The Hernandezes get 295.

Triple Round: something rude people do to get a waiter's attention (4). Robert yells for #1. That's it for them. The Guyoviches try to force Sudden Death with a snap of the fingers. Got it and the 156. Other answers: whistle, wave.

Sudden Death: something you should never buy on impulse. And that's Bernadette. "A car." They double up to win, 312-295. That... was a close one.

Tom & Toni couldn't get the job done yesterday. Can they do it today? No. They only get $485 for a two-day total of $1095.

Jeopardy! by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or jeopardy.com
Host: Alex Trebek
John Kelly (attorney from Atlanta); $21,601
Chris Jones (loan consultant from Chalfont, PA)
Diane Mettam (pastor from Independence, CA)

Yesterday, two people fought the law, and the law won. Will today be the same case? John starts with $200 Oh, Be "Silent". At the break, and after we visit the Clue Crew in Amsterdam and Alex does his best Peter Brady-doing-his-best-Bogie, Diane is in the lead, $4000 to John's $2400. Chris is trailing at $600.

Speaking of $600, that's where John finds the Daily Double under Speech! Speech! Far behind Diane's lead, he looks to double his $2800. The clue: on July 4, 1939, he gave a famous farewell speech in the Bronx. "Who was Lou Gehrig?" And he's got $5600! He goes to $6000 at the half to Diane's $8200, but it's Chris and his $2200 that gets to start Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Movies to the Max, finding the Daily Double under $1600 Furred, Feathered, Finned. In the lead by a grand, John bets $2500 on a 1/6-inch printer's unit or (spelled differently) a 7- or 8-inch furred creature. "What is an inchworm?" Nope. It was a pika (or if you were a yearbook geek like myself, a pica). He's down to $9100, but far from out. $1600 Almost Assassinated is where we find the second Daily Double. Chris bets $2800 on who was almost assassinated on August 22, 1962. "Who is Malcolm X?" Nope, it was Charles de Gaulle, dropping him to $5000. John ends with a clue from Bob Woodward (of Woodward & Bernstein) giving him the lead, $12,300 to Diane's $11,400. Chris has $7000. Not a runaway.

Final Jeopardy! in "Youth Organizations": this organization pledges it will strive for "clearer thinking... greater loyalty... larger service, and... better living" in that order. Correct query: What are the 4H?

Diane is right... and she's the only one. She wins today with $19,400. John leaves with $22,601.

The Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN

Air time:  11a ET/10a CT on CBS (markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker
Episode #3382K, taped August 22, 2005. It's GAME SHOW CONGRESS DAY at 7800. Here's what went down before our very eyes:

Contestant Lauren Ramos, a self-proclaimed "Mrs. Barker," captured a Juliana Sunsational greenhouse, valued at $1200. She takes her place on stage to play Lucky $even for a Dodge Caravan SE. In her four guesses, she lost no more than $2 a guess (missing all three by at least $1, and the fourth number by $2), thereby winning the van, valued at $19,834.

REPORTER'S NOTE: I have been to "The Price is Right" 6 times now. 5 out of those 6 times, Lucky $even has been the lead-off game. Of course, one of those 6 times, I was the lucky one to play the game.

Contestant Janessa Lawgus, after capturing a Jaclyn Smith dinette set from Largo International ($1195) Made Her Move to the turntable for a Vector jump starter, a Magnussen Home desk with working clock, and an EZGO Freedom TXT golf cart. The setup:

3 0 9 9 0 6 9 3 3 (the last 3 was inserted upside-down)

She kept the prizes in ascending order and won them all. Her total take: $9148.

Our new contestant, John Goulish, is "SURROUNDED BY IDIOTS." No, I don't mean the other three people in Contestant's Row. His shirt proclaims his engrossment, by being a coach of a team in the fourth row. However, he doesn't make it out of the row this time. That honor goes to Andrea Lamo, capturer of a Sony video camcorder ($570). His game: Check-Out for a 6-night trip to St. Croix. The products: Alberto VO5 Nourishing Oasis conditioner, Sunbelt fruit & grain bars, a Clorox cleaning wand, organic salad beans, and a 120-count bottle of Citracal.
His guessed total ($2.39, $1.89, $6.99, 99¢, $5.99): $18.25.
The actual total ($2.39, $1.79, $9.99, 99¢, $10.97): $26.13. Missed it by $7.88.

REPORTER'S NOTE: He got the VO5 correct based on a technical error very carefully edited out. When he first guessed the VO5, he guessed $3.29. After his guess, it didn't appear on the screen. Instead, the bag with the correct price popped up. So, they stopped tape, figured out how to handle it, and moved on, with Andrea re-guessing the correct price. That is why everyone, including Bob, was laughing so hard when the cleaning wand bag SNAPPED to attention after a small delay.

Now, John makes his stage appearance, claiming a stainless steel refrigerator, valued at $1149. His game: Joker for a Sklar Peppler living room and 27" TV/DVD/VCR combo ($4193). He earned three discards, winning hair twisters ($25), a retro phone ($59), and a rustic clock ($25). His discards: 1,3,5. Joker: 4. Sorry, John.

REPORTER'S NOTE: In line that morning, there was a couple celebrating their anniversary asking me about strategy. They asked about Joker. I told them, "Never discard 4." So, where was the Joker today? Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Our next contestant: none other than mother of the GSC Master, MARY BAILEY! Her tenure in the row was short, claiming a popcorn card valued at $1389. Her bid, as passed to her from me: $1010. Her game: That's Too Much for a Ford Focus ZX4SE. No rehearsal needed for her. She had the "TTM" cry right off the bat. Game play:
$10,850? Go on. $12,590? Go on. $14,941? Go on. $16,582? Go on. $17,810? THAT'S TOO MUCH!! ARP: $18,924. Shoulda gone two more, Mary.

REPORTER'S NOTE: Of the multitude of GSC delegates there, I was the ONLY ONE telling Mary to go on at $17,810. That's OK. She still got the popcorn cart and a shot at the wheel.

Our final stage contestant, James Dalton, was called down just after asking Bob how he has stayed handsome after all these years. When he hit the Row, Bob, Rich, and most of the audience bust out laughing. He managed to capture a Big Green Egg ($900) and played Double Prices for a TheraSauna. His pick of $4695 over $3510 was correct. Games for the day: 3/6.

Onto the Showcases. Your Top Winner: Janessa. Your Runner-Up: MARY BAILEY!

The first Showcase gave us some new novels. The prizes contained within were an Equator washer/dryer all-in-one, a pair of Honda CRF 150 motorbikes, and a Catalina Yachts Windkeel Cruiser sailboat. Janessa passed, and Mary's bid (given by pointman Ben Ziek) was $24,500.

The second Showcase gave us the top four reasons to quit your job. The prize menu: a Worksman tandem bike, a Capresso Ultima cappuccino machine, a trip to Chicago, and a Pontiac Grand Prix. Janessa's bid: $22,017

Janessa's Showcase ARP: $27,907 for a difference of $5890.
Mary's Showcase ARP: $36,047 for a difference of $11,547. Janessa's total take: $37,055.

STATS: 3/6; $66,901

Game Show Congress Delegates In Attendance: Tom Gauer, Mary Carrie Bailey, G. Paul Bailey, yours truly, Dave Peffer, Robert Royko, Ryan Vickers, Chico Alexander, Mike Klauss, Jason Hernandez, Gordon Pepper, Jason Block, and Ben Ziek.

Score by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  4:30p ET/3:30p CT on MTV
Host: Ryan Cabrera
Niki (20; Santa Cruz, CA; music student); her voice is her instrument; Ryan hears she has a twin sister.
Betsy (25; Dallas; guitarist/singer for "Diary Thief"); likes the Cure and Smashing Pumpkins
Michael Cardelle (21; Miami; actor); grew up salsa dancing; was recently on "As the World Turns"

R&B pop vs. Boston rock. A matchup for the ages... 18-25. Tee hee. The words for the ages: Michael, sharks, spontaneous, salsa. The reward... a date in Mazatlan con un chico guapito.

First up, Niki is running through ideas in her head in the writing room.... And she's more of a country singer. Should be interesting to fit "salsa" in there, but she'll get the job done if she can stop yelling at the host. Betsy wants to write a rock ballad with the band in the rehearsal room. Ryan's notes on Niki: not the best piano player.

Betsy starts to sound like "Everybody Hurts", meaning that it's time to switch. Betsy sticks by her guns with an "energetic ballad". Niki, meanwhile, gets Josh to play the piano for her... because he's a professional and everything. Ryan's "let's go make fun of everybody else" notes on Betsy: she's risky.

Let's head to the Avalon, where Michael is hiding in seclusion with a male pop star. Every actor's worst nightmare. First up, Niki with "Worth the While". You know, for a voice student, she still needs to buck up on her pitch. "Excellent."

Switching to Betsy now, as she goes into a rock ballad mode with "Lately". This is definitely the better of the two, performancewise, but what did Michael think? "Very unique."

If it were me, Betsy and I would be in Mexico and the love would be spread, but Michael... picked Niki.

We'll get the Video on that soon. Lisa lands in Mystery Territory. Will she give up $4500 for a peek? No. Good thing, too. That was a BANKRUPT down there. She gets another $1000 from AstraZeneca, who will donate $1000 to Breastcancer.org as well. She solves GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING BRITISH BAND COLDPLAY for $7050 total. So far, $8050.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira
Yesterday, Eric Root reached $4,000, but used all his lifelines on the way. Can he at least get to $25,000 on his own?

Eric wants to use his winnings to return to school, to become a teacher. Plus, one thing that he learned after yesterday's episode is this: trust your instincts. He'll have to at this point. He resumes with a question asking what natural gas is "Good Up High" but "Bad Nearby", according to the EPA's website, and Eric correctly answers that it is ozone. Then, he sees this for $16,000...

In March 2005, Dan Rather concluded his final show as a CBS news anchor with what familiar one-word sign-off?
A: Truth
B: Courage
C: Honor
D: Peace

After plenty of consideration, Eric decides to take a guess and says A... but it's B! Darn. Oh well, at least he has $1,000.

The next player is Sabrina Mayton (Raleigh, NC), and she loves animals. Good thing, since she works at a vet, and she has plenty of animals; 2 dogs, a parrot, a toad, and a cat. Quite the interesting assortment. Anyway, Sabrina starts by knowing that wide-brimmed hats are commonly recommended by dermatologists to protect your face from sun damage (gonna need a lot more than that to protect oneself from Russell Crowe). She moves along just fine, answering questions such as one which asks what grammatical error the rock lyric "I can't get no satisfaction" contains (double negative), before getting to this $4,000 question...

From opening day to the last playoff game, which of these pro sports completes its entire season within a calendar year?
A: Basketball
B: Hockey
C: Baseball
D: Football

Sabrina asks the audience, and 87% of the studio audience goes with C, while 35% of the AIM users also picks C. Sabrina agrees with them and says C... and they're right! A couple more questions later, and this shows up for $25,000...

What two dance names are represented in the international radio alphabet that begins "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie"?
A: Jitterbug and Lindy
B: Polka and Waltz
C: Foxtrot and Tango
D: Rumba and Samba

Not sure, Sabrina decides to call Jay, a veterinarian at the hospital she works at, and he says C, though he's not really sure. So, Sabrina uses the 50:50, which leaves A and C. After some thought, she decides to go for it and goes with Jay's answer of C... and Sabrina has $25,000! That means she gets Switch-the-Question, but she ends up using it on the next question since she doesn't know that the Shakers, a religious group known for its woodwork, have dwindled in number to one active community in Maine. So that's out, and this is in, for $50,000...

What famous story begins with the line "One dollar and eighty-seven cents"?
A: The Lottery
B: The Necklace
C: The Gift of the Magi
D: The Purloined Letter

It's a free guess here, so Sabrina guesses B... but it's not B! It's C! Not too much of a problem, though, because she still has $25,000!

The hot seat's next occupant is Jason Drucker (New York, NY). He lives with his grandparents, but he would like to win some money and "kind of" move out. And he starts by knowing that according to a common parental warning, sitting too close to a television set can ruin your eyesight (seeing one's father in a thong would seem just plain creepy). Jason decides to ask the audience for the $300 question, which asks which word isn't one of the "three H's" commonly used by meteorologists to describe steamy summer days, and 93% of the studio audience, as well as 46% of the AIM users, gives the right answer, Heavy. Jason goes with that, and moves on, eventually getting a couple more to get to $1,000.

And there's no more time for today. Jason will keep going next time.
