Syvertsen
(Marie, Cecelia, Clair, Regina, John); $20,500, two
days |
| Yoo (Charlie,
Thomas, Rachel, Sandy, Zina) |
A winner is Yoo? The
kids from NY say "I don't think so." Round 1:
100 single women, an Australian actor you wouldn't mind
taking "out back" (5) Cahrlie gets #2, Mel Gibson, while
Marie Crowes about Russell, #3. Dumb answer: Thomas says
"Nicole Kidman". Even dumber answer: Rachel says "Tom
Cruise." Heath Ledger comes in at #4. Dumber STILL
answer: Zina says "Captain Kangaroo." I'm willing to bet
dollars to donuts that #1 is Hugh Jackman. The champs go
with Paul Hogan. Heh.. I guess I owe someone a donut,
because that's number one. Hugh Jackman's not even on
the list. Steve Irwin is, though.
Syvertsens have 57 as we
go into Round 2: something guys like to shoot (5).
Thomas shoots top of the board with a gun. Pool, hoops,
and the breeze also make the survey. The champs elect to
shoot deer. Up there, the champs are at 126.
Double Round: something
repairmen ruin as often as they fix (5). Clair's car is
at #2. Regina's pipes are at number one. And for some
reason I don't understand, washing machine also makes
it. The Yoos try to steal with TV. Got it for 118. Other
answer: roof.
Triple Round: something
that a couple has a first one of (4).
Sandy's child is number one. That's all they get,
though. The champs try to steal it with house... doesn't
happen. The Yoos get 286. Other answers: kiss,
anniversary, fight... and speaking of which...
Sudden Death: something
a person might be struck by. Zina gets it with lightning
to win, 541-126.
Charlie & Zina only
manage 128 for $640. |

Back to School Week is in
Day 4, and three winners are comfortably set until
college. How about today?
|
Joseph Henares
(actor from Avon, CT) |
|
Hope Landsem (future lawyer from Tualatin,
OR) |
|
Mitchell Vogel
(future governor of Wisconsin
from Madison) |
Pretty good bunch today.
Joseph takes $200 The Book Nook to start. Mitchell takes
over control of the category and finds the Daily Double
under $1000. With a second-place $1200, he only goes
$800, but it'll be enough for the lead. The clue: in
slang this 2-word phrase can refer to an event that no
longer matters; it's also the section where "Roman
Britain" is. "What is... England?" Nope, ancient
history, as Mitchell is down to $400.
See that computer over
there? See that printer? Yours. And all you had to do
was show up. And speaking of showing up, that's what
Hope is doing, as she springs into the lead, $2800 to
Joseph's $2200. Mitchell, thanks in part to the earlier
Daily Double blunder, has $1400 and will start Double
Jeopardy!...
... with $400 The
American Revolution. Hope finds the first Daily Double
under $1600. Leading with $4000, she wagers just $1000
on the writer of "Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily
conquered." "Who is Paine?" Right on for $5000. After
making a killing off of Star Wars Forever, Joseph gets
the second Daily Double under $1200 Lakes & Rivers. He
wagers $1400 for an even $10,000 on the river of
Allahabad, India. "What is the Ganges?" Right for
$10,000. And we run out of time with Joseph in the lead,
$12,800, Hope in second with $9000, and Mitchell up the
rear with $6200.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Hobbies": this word comes from the Greek
words for "light" & "writing".
Correct response: What is photography?
No one gets it, but
unless Joseph bet a pretty penny, he'll end up with the
W... He didn't. He ends up with $7599, enough for the
win, though champs are guaranteed the house minimum of
$10,000. |

Married couple and

Married
couple and ballroom dance instructors Larisa &
Paul |
We're going to the man
Shandi calls "Twinkletoes"... despite no professional
experience... for your Thursday Lingo. Larisa & Paul
steal the first 25 with GLEAM, but Paul draws a red
gleam. They get the draw back, though, with a steal of
SPEND. Anne & Brian steal with POACH, following with
CRUDE, YEARS, and a stopper. But Larisa & Paul get a
BONUS to tie it at 75. Anne & Brian break the LIMIT for
the steal, but Brian is stopped in time for round 1 to
end. Score favors the Yellows' 100-75.
Larisa & Paul sit on the PORCH for
50. Anne & Brian steal GLOSS... and holy smokes, it's a Lingo!
Yellows are up, 250-125. Larisa & Paul get HOOKS. Holy smokes,
another Lingo! Reds up, 275-250. Larisa & Paul get DEFER. And
that's the game, Larisa & Paul win, 325-250.
With two Bonus Lingo letters, Larisa & Paul get BRUTE, LASSO, and
WEEDY for $300 and three balls, one for 10, two for 5. We have
another 10-for-10, but Larisa gets 54. On the last draw...
nothing. Still, that's $300. |

The
Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
Negotiated the
hump...weekend on the horizon.
Here's what went down on this day in history at 7800.
Contestant Russell Millican, a representative of Campus
Crusade for Christ (as he so "intimately" told the world
during a Showcase Showdown) captured a Comfort Spas
Antigua hot tub, valued at $2695. His game: Five Price
Tags (collective groan) for a Ford Mustang V6 coupe.
After claiming only a portable jump starter and a coin
sorter, both valued at $30, he blew his two choices on
$23,572 and $21,541. ARP of the car: $20,985.
Contestant Kelvin Walker, after capturing six Flowlab
skateboards, was offered the second car of the show in
the second game, Push Over for a Ford Foxus ZX3SE. With
a setup of 1 8 1 7 1 6 2 7 8, he pushed to $16,278 and
missed by two blocks. ARP: $17,162.
Two games, two cars, no winners...yet.
Contestant Andrew Burns claimed a Yamaha electronic
keyboard, priced at $900, and drew Barker's Markers as
his game. He placed his three makers on $1200, $2099,
and $3075 for a PaceMaster treadmill, a Ridgeway
grandfather clock, and a Rosenthal crystal set, leaving
$2580 unmarked. Luckily, he had them all right and left
them alone, so he kept his $500 bonus as well.
The momentum continued the ramp up during the speed-up
game, Pick A Pair. Contestant Lisa McClure-Donnelly
captured a $1074 Meade Instruments telescope, then
picked TRESemme conditioner and Jolly Time Popcorn, both
valued at $3.99, to win a trip to the South Pacific,
valued at $11,412.
Let's keep the streak alive! Contestant Mitch Morlett
won a Flexsteel Temecula chair & ottoman ($1642) and
played Flip Flop for a 42" plasma EDTV and a Dimplext
Fireplace entertainment unit. With a setup of 94 89, he
flipped AND flopped to form the winning price of $4998.
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!! Dice Game gets to round out
the day with contestant Denise Bien (sic) playing for a
Dodge Neon SXT, after winning a $1063 set of Ivanko
dumbbells. Her first roll, a 6, dead on. Next roll, 5,
goes lower. Third roll, 4, goes higher. Last roll, 3,
goes higher. If she would have only gone with the odds
with the 4, she would have won.
Ah, the Showcases. The time for car game losers Russell
and Denise to redeem themselves as Top Winner and
Runner-Up, respectively. The first Showcase, "All About
Direction," gave us Magellan GPS receivers, a Dell
laptop, and a 25' Catalina sailboat. Russell decides to
pass to Denise, who bid an unusual $28,842.
Russell's Showcase gave us a Vaughan-Bassett bedroom
with Wamsutta bedding and a Supple-Pedic sleep set from
Strobel, his & her Hippo golf equipment, and a 6 night
trip to Scotland. His bid: $18,750.
Denise's bid was a mere $2352 off (ARP: $31,194). Had
Russell only bid $18,000, he would have only missed by
ONE DOLLAR. Instead he went over by $749. Denise's total
take: $32,257.
Rich's suit: Off-white today.
STATS: 3/6; $62,839 |

Host: Ryan Cabrera |

Piper (20;
Des Moines, IA; model/student); describes style as
female pop with a little soul |
|
Ana (24;
Philadelphia; musician); has a dog, three cats, 28
snails, three water turtles, a lizard, and a hamster |
|
Zane
Holt (18;
Vancouver, BC; professional hand model); likes
baseball and karate, drives fast |
Power pop takes on jazzy
pop for a trip to... oh, how about Mazatlan?
Zane's words: Zane, ticket, Canada, model. And no goofy
lyrics. You have eight hours...
Starting now. Ryan takes Ana to
the writing room, while Piper chills with the band. Ana likes
hooking melodies and guitars in the song. She's not playing on the
show, just for the writing. Meanwhile, Piper is having a bit of a
problem with the band defining "jazzy pop" as being "elevator
music". Or... err, the other way round. Fun fact: Ryan & Ana
suffer from the ADD. Not really that fun, but they make it out to
be... Ryan's notes: "She's like a fireball, but it's challenging,
because she keeps hitting on me."
Switch off! Piper heard that the
guys thought it was a little too slow. Ryan tends to agree,
suggesting that the big hits would come at the top of the chords.
Shouldn't you be writing some lyrics? That's more like it.
Meanwhile, Ethan and KC are really trying to keep Piper focused.
Ryan's notes on Piper: "Piper's got a lot of lyrics to write."
Writing time's over, let's go to
the stage... eventually... if we can control Piper... Seriously.
Zane makes his appearance... Zane makes his disappearance. Piper's
first with "You Are the Perfect Guy For Me", which ... sounds
cheesy. If you look closely, you can see Ana and/or Ryan wofting
in the breeze. "She put it down," our man from up north says.
Ana's about to wake everyone back
up with "I Don't Need to Know Much." And Piper's... bored. Must be
replaying her song in her head. Definitely the anti-Piper
performing, but really, are you THAT surprised? "That was... taht
was awesome," Zane says...
So who's your champ today? Zane is
taking... Ana to Mexico! Zane likes bold stuff. And he'll get his
share... Piper just hopes the hotels in Mexico have padded walls.
For his safety, of course. |

Air time: 12p ET/11a CT on Univision
Host: Guillermo Huesca |

We continue the Yom Kippur
Holiday with three more contestants - Maria the flower
lady, Israel the Chef and Erika the purple punk rocker.
Guillermo treats this as a happy occasion and gives
Maria and Erica each $400. Guillermo is...out of money
for Israel, but if Maria gives Israel her $400, then he
will give her the curtain. She does, and she gets a
Mexican Vacation and $600 worth of gas for a total of
$1,150! If Erica gives Israel her $400, Guillermo will
give her the box. Erika keeps the money, and gives
up...a bunch of old luggage that should have gone on the
vacation to the garbage can for a Chasco. Israel still
has $400, and he could spend it for Curtain #2 - and he
does, getting a new refrigerator worth $1,149! Nice
deals for everyone!
Little Miss Riding Hood Rosala is next to play - and
it's appropriate that she is playing this game, because
we have a little basket. This one has 2 goodies - 2
fortune cookie with messages in it - a red message and a
yellow message. Rosala wants the cookie with the red
message, but before we show her what it is, Guillermo
shows her some Derman foot cream - and there's something
attached to it. Now Guillermo gives her a chance to
change to the Derman, but she doesn't want to. Attached
to the Derman today - $250. Attached to the yellow
fortune - $500. Attached to the red fortune cookie - $1.
Little Red Riding Hood goes back to granny only a little
richer.
Narisela brought a wallet with her - and Guillermo will
give her $400 for it. He'll also give her a box - if she
wants to spend the $400. She does and she now owns a
Book of House Cleaning. Oops. Is there something
attached to the manual, though? Guillermo also offers
her...her own wallet back - which may also have
something inside. What does Marisela want? She decides
to keep the book. Inside her wallet - a note that says
Curtain #1, which has a Washer and Dryer worth $1,098.
Inside the book, is...a Chasco sign. Awww. After a good
start, we've had a lousy last 2 games.
But hopefully, someone will do better with the Gran
Trato, which will be sought after by Flower Lady Maria
and Chef Israel. Maria selects door #1, while Israel
selects door #2. We first see...door #1, and Maria will
leave with $700. Israel will be leaving with outdoor
patio furniture, a bicycle, a barbecue and a
lobster-gram for a nice $2,047 deal. The contents of
door #3 - a new dining room set with china, cookware, a
baker's rack, a $200 certificate to the Home Depot, a
dishwasher and a range - a total of $5,147 - won't be
leaving the studio, which is too bad, because that's a
nice Gran Trato.
This is Gordon Pepper,
telling you to enjoy the end of Yom Kippur! For all of
the Jews out there, may your fast be an easy one! |

Last time, we saw someone
win $25,000. Can someone else do better today?
We start today with Rob from New York City. Or, more
specifically, Rob From (New York, NY). He happened to be
in the audience the day before, and now he's back in the
studio, but this time in the hot seat! He didn't get
much (if any) sleep the night before, but we'll see if
that could affect him in any way. Rob starts by knowing
that J. Edgar Hoover shares his name with a popular
brand of vacuum cleaner. He also knows, as we find out
along the way, that according to legend, news of the
Battle of Marathon was delivered by a man who traveled
26 miles by foot, and that the phrase commonly used to
refer to money needed to start a new business is seed
money. Soon enough, this question comes up, worth
$4,000...
Henry Ford built a replica of Thomas Edison's famous
Menlo Park laboratory in what Midwest city?
A: Peoria, IL
B: Muncie, IN
C: Sioux City, IA
D: Dearborn, MI
Rob asks the audience, and 73% of the studio audience
says D, but the AIM poll shows some disagreement; there,
33% says C, and 31% says D. Rob trusts the studio
audience enough to go with D... and he's up to $4,000!
He then moves on to the $8,000 question...
In an effort to conserve energy, Congress voted in 2005
to extend daylight-saving time until the first Sunday of
what month?
A: September
B: October
C: November
D: December
Rob isn't sure, but he figures it isn't A. So, he calls
his friend, Andy, who thinks it's C. How sure is he?
50/50. Rob still isn't sure enough to go with it, so he
uses the 50:50, which leaves B and C. He then decides to
go for it, and says C... and it's C! But then, on the
$16,000 question, which asks about the title of the
first novel in Sophie Kinsella's best-selling chick-lit
series, Rob takes a risk, thinking it's "Confessions of
a Gold Digger"... but it's not Gold Digger! The title is
"Confessions of a Shopaholic"! That sends Rob home with
$1,000.
Next in the hot seat is Lou Corradi (Brooklyn, NY). He's
a train operator in the subways, and he claims that his
trains are never late. Now, in Lou's words, "Let's rock
and roll!" Lou's first question asks what sinister
figure is also commonly known as "Lucifer" and "Prince
of Darkness", and he knows it's the devil (one of the
other choices was Ryan Seacrest; I'll let you make your
own joke about that). He then advances through some more
questions, such as one which asks what "koolsla", a
Dutch word that coleslaw took its name from, literally
means (cabbage salad). Eventually, he gets this for
$2,000...
Which of these parts of a house is also called an
"anteroom"?
A: Closet
B: Attic
C: Foyer
D: Pantry
Lou asks the audience, and 61% of the studio audience
goes with C, while 38% of the AIM users agree. Lou says
C... and is right! He then uses the 50:50 on the $4,000
question to help determine what the Spanish expression "hasta
luego" means (see you later). Up next is this question
for $8,000...
In the Harry Potter book series, Harry's Nimbus 2000 is
what type of magical device?
A: Broomstick
B: Wand
C: Cloak
D: Cauldron
Lou had a strange feeling that a Harry Potter question
would show up, so he did some research; it didn't cover
this, though. So, stuck, he decides to call Dr. Kim, but
she can't come up with a guess in time. With no
lifelines left, Lou is about to take a shot at it and go
with D, but he cuts himself off before saying "final
answer". He then decides to go with A, and this time, he
locks it in... and it's a good thing he did, becuase it
is A, bringing him up to $8,000!
And there's the horn. Lou may be out of lifelines, but
he'll be back tomorrow to see if he can advance any
farther. |
