Syvertsen
(Marie, Cecelia, Clair, Regina, John); $20,000 |
Brown (Rashida,
Ayo, Olu, Andrea, Janus) |
So far, Brooklyn in the
house coming correct, but can they do it again? Round 1:
something you do while driving even though you know it's
wrong (6) Marie gets the number one, talking on the cell
phone. The champs also get eat and speed. Can the Browns
take it with makeup? Sounds good to me... But isn't
there. The Syvertsens get 70. Other answer: not use
seatbelt, don't use signals, smoke cigarette.
Round 2: a movie that
won many Academy Awards (5). Ayo gets the board with
Titanic. Other big winners: ... well, we don't know,
really. The Syvertsens can steal with a good answer. Is
it the Godfather? No! The Browns get the 30. Other
answers: Gone with the Wind, Lord of the Rings, Sound of
Music, Forrest Gump.
This is the documented
opinion of 100 average Americans, we remind you.
Double Round: a career
more career go into than men (5).
Olu's nurse beats Clair's teacher, 1-2. Secretary and
hairdresser also make the list. Can the Browns steal
with dancer? No! The Browns are up to 190. Other answer:
stripper.
Triple Round: a former
President you would have voted for if you were living at
the time (4).
Andrea's Lincoln beats Regina's Kennedy, 1-2. But the
board goes to the champs, as they try to steal with
Washington. Got it! The Syvertsens get 259, as FDR
rounds out the board. It's time for...
Sudden Death: what
reasons do husbands give for coming home late. No, Janus,
not an affair. John was working late for the game,
442-190.
Marie & Clair try and do
it again... but nickel and dime they way to $500, giving
them $20,500 for two days.

Jeopardy! by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or

Host: Alex Trebek |

So far, all our Back to
School Week winners were "Mad". Today, I guarantee you
that that won't be the case... Sure, one might be
"Ticked", but Mad, no.
Charlotte Darby
(craft lady of steel in training from West Chester,
PA) |
Jon Er (musician from Williamsville, NY) |
Matt Tick (aspiring baseball play-by-play-man
from Escondido, CA) |
Charlotte's first play
is $200 Old Testament Heroes. This Daily Double is a
disaster, as $1000 in This Category is a Disaster! is
uncovered too early to do any damage! Although Jon is in
the lead, it's way too early for him to make a game
breaker. He'll try, though, as he bets $800. One of
these destroyed more than 17,000 buildings (by this
time, it clicks and Jon is just itching to say it) in
Chicago in October 1871. "What is a fire?" Got it out,
and got the $3000.
He'll tack on another
$800 for second place at the half, while Matt of the
shoulder braid takes a slight edge with $4000.
Charlotte, still in the game with $2400, begins Double
Jeopardy!
All three players are
winners today, because all three get computers and
printers from AOL. Not to Charlotte, who starts the
Double round with $400 Kid Lit. Charlotte switches to
Going Global for $1200, and it's a good thing she did.
That's the first Daily Double. Can she take the lead?
Nope, she only bets $1000 on the country where you can
find Nunavut. "What is Canada?" Right on for $4200 and
second place. Back to Kid Lit, though, as Matt finds the
Daily Double under $1600. "Yay!" Indeed. He goes $1400
on a young detective who, at 75, is not getting a cell
phone and a hybrid car. "I don't know." Nancy Drew has
all those things now, as Matt now has $13,000. He'll end
with that much, as Jon takes third with $7800. Charlotte
in the middle now with $10,200. All three very much in
this, all three very much alive.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Sweet Treats": once known as Fairy Floss in
the US, it's "Papa's Beard" in France & "Sugar Wool" in
Germany.
Correct response: What is cotton candy?
Jon's got it, and he
doubles up. Charlotte's got it... and she holds back.
Matt has it... and the winner is Ticked, as he goes home
with $16,000. |

Lingo by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 7p ET/6p CT on GSN
Host: Chuck Woolery |
|
Associates Chris (concierge) &
Nadeev
(hotel administrator) |
Fiancees Rich (software support engineer)
& Katie
(closed-captioning editor) |
Better find the room
booked under Woolery, because it's time to play Lingo.
Chris & Nadeev get STORE for 25,
but a red ball off the top is in store. A second chance with CHESS
for the steal. And it pays off in a Lingo for 100.
Rich & Katie TABLE 25... and Katie
tables a red ball. Chris & Nadeev capitalize with DECAY, but Rich
& Katie get PUSHY for the steal. Chris & Nadeev return the favor
with WAIVE and BULGE, but Nadeev draws red. Rich & Katie STAND on
25, but no Lingo yet. Round 1 ends with the score favoring the
Yellows, 175-75.
Rich & Katie go to ORBIT to start
round 2. And they're really in orbit now. They just Lingoed to go
to 225.
Chris & Nadeev start the comeback
tour... but it's stopped as they LAPSE to Rich & Katie's steal.
They follow with LOBBY. Chris & Nadeev steal REFER for 50, but
it's too late. Rich & Katie win it, 325-225.
An engagement present of $10,000 is on the line.
With two Bonus Lingo letters, Rich & Katie get PRISM and JAUNT for
$200 and two balls, one for 10, one for 5. We have a 10-for-10,
and Rich gets... a 40. Still need a 10... Katie gets... 22.
Another nice dinner with $200. |

The
Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
There are some things that
just have to stand out. Today, it was more than a little
Pocket Change. Tanya Scozio got to play the game after
winning a floor clock in round 2. Unfortunately, Tanya
managed to raise the price of the Chevy Impala to $1.75.
Even more unfortunately, she only had 95¢ to blow.
The first-half winner would
be Kevin van Arsdall, who gets a washer/dryer and a
chance for a hot tub playing the Squeeze Play. The
setup: $64,925. Expensive, even for a hot tub. He
removes the 2, and gets a dip in the $6495 hot tub...
But not before meeting
Kandis Kreutz in the Showcase. After getting a
trimmer/blower, it's time to play a little Blackjack.
The game is Hit Me, and the prize is an upright piano. A
lotion at $51.92 (8) and cherries at $13.74 (6) give her
14 to a dealer 6. Normally, this would be a good time to
stay. But even the better of us are not immune to error,
as the house draws before revealing its hole card. So
now it's a 14 against a dealer 16. This would DEFINITELY
be a good time to stay. The hole car is... a 9. Brandi:
"I'm sorry!"
And would you believe
that her luck continues? She gets $1000 on the Big
Wheel.
Another stand-out
moment: James Handy, Jr. Not only did he get to play
Barker for fifteen seconds (quite nice, actually), he
managed to win that kayak that he offered himself as
well as a bank, toaster oven, and alarm clock, as well
as the Bonus Game bonus of a new bedroom and mattress
set.
Now onto the Showcase,
where it's a case of good versus evil. On offer: a chest
freezer, a treadmill, a motorcycle, and a Chrysler
Pacifica. By the way... good wins. Kandis keeps it with
a bid of $26,349. Meanwhile Kevin gets a globe... and
he's going to use it on a trip Around the World! Today's
stops: Cancun, Sweden, and Hong Kong. He tags it at
$18,500. Actual price: $19,644, a difference of $1144.
Actual price of Kandis' Showcase... $29,442. Kevin gets
to hold his own Amazing Race to the tune of $27,127.
Other winners:
Roshelyn McCoy: family game room package; carousel
horse, golf equipment & $500 playing Step Up
Robert Lubrano: "Gig Harbor" painting; $171 getting
stung by El Cheapo in the Money Game
Stats: 3/6, $59,880, and
one card-playing error. |

Score by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 4:30p ET/3:30p CT on MTV
Host: Ryan Cabrera |
|
Chris (25;
Brunswick, OH; punk-rock guitarist); former
skateboarder |
Justin (19; LA;
musician); wants to focus on his music |
Zoe Clark (23;
Hermosa Beach, CA; likes to cook); a Scrabble champ
who lives at the beach, has ginormous brown eyes |
It's punk versus rock
today. Who's going to score the date? Up for grabs: a
beach bunny and a trip to a beach.. Cabo, to be exact.
Zoe's words: Zoe (name), games (she's a player),
frittata (she can cook a mean one), and beach (she lives
there)
Eight hours to showtime, as Chris
meets the band, and Justin meets Ryan. Justin wants it nice and
upbeat, straight ahead rock. Justin just pops a lyric out of
nowhere. Nice. Meanwhile, Chris structures out the song with the
drummer - two lines for the verse, four for the chorus...
That's... different. Ryan's notes on Chris: swaggered. "He wants
that first date with an older woman, which I can't disagree with."
Switch off! Okay, Chris ... has a
guitar of death. Chris is going to base the whole song on
Scrabble. But Ryan is worried that it may be too quick for her to
comprehend. Meanwhile, Justin is very straightforward as he
directs the band, using his skills as an all-round musician to his
advantage... Niiiice! Ryan's notes on Justin: he is balls to the
wall. He means business.
We're going to have a classic
battle of rockers today. And here's the prize now... Okay, get her
outta here. We also learn that Zoe's a rock chick and that Ryan
doesn't know what a frittata is... and this dude is hosting? Chris
is first with "Scrabble." Very punk, yeah. Hardcore... *sign of
the beast* Call me when you channel Sid Vicious, kid. Meanwhile,
he puts down the four words for a triple word score. Zoe was
digging it. Nice creative vibe there.
Justin busts out "Closer To You".
He scores a two-fer to open, and the other two later. Nice
straightforward song, if not a tad bit evil. Heh. She still
totally feels that. It's gonna be hard, but this is a 30 minute
show.
So who gets the date? She says she
liked the winner's song because it had a nice voice singing it.
That voice is.. Justin's. Word. Just goes to show you... If you
want to win at Scrabble, remember QANAT works. |

Trato
Hecho by
Gordon Pepper, GSNN
Air time: 12p ET/11a CT on Univision
Host: Guillermo Huesca |
|
Guillermo needs three
people to start the show, and he finds them in the form
of Maria the clown, Leidy the baby, and Carlos, who's
dressed up as Darth Vader (he's not my father, though).
One person has to make the decision for everyone - for
example, Maria has to decide whether to take some
Vitacilina or go for Curtain #1. She goes for the
curtain and turns down the $300 in the Vitacilina.
Instead, all of them get a pair pf bicycles worth $780.
Will Leidy keep the bikes or trade it for the small box?
She trades the bikes away - and gets a Chasco Cookbook.
It's Carlos's turn to lead, and he wants to get rid of
that for Curtain #2. Hidden in the Cookbook is a note
that says...Chasco! Well, that seems to be a good choice
to get rid of it, and it is, because they all get a
washer/dryer worth $1,098! All three of them sit down,
very happy.
We're looking for a quick round-up with Vincente the
cowboy. He gets to pich one of 4 cards - and selects
card #4. Behind card #3 - $100. Behind Card #2 - $100.
Behind Card #1 - $1,000! Behind his card...well, he can
trade it for the box. He doesn't want the box and turns
down a mini scooter worth $600. What does he get
instead? $100. It's better than a Chasco Cookbook.
Anyone for some eggs? Not for me, since I have to fast
tonight, but Maria the flower lady and Esperanza (who
looks like Yoko Ono) will be selecting eggs - and the
raw ones are worth $800. Maria wants the blue one and
Esperanza wants the red one. Maria decides to trade her
egg away for Curtain #3 - but then Guillermo offers her
$300 to bail out. Does Esperanza want to trade her egg
away for Curtain #2? She doesn't and she also gets a
$300 offer to bail out from Guillermo. Like Maria, she
also takes the money. So what would the women have done?
Maria could have had...a nice patio set worth $840,
while behind Curtain #2 was a giant Chasco Slingshot.
The yellow and blue eggs were both raw and the red one
was hard-boiled. Maria made the worst decision she could
have made, while Esperanza made the best decision she
could have made.
Who will make the decision to go for a $5,000+ Gran
Trato? Maria the Clown will, and so will Darth Carlos.
Maria wants Door #3, while Carlos wants Door #1 - and
with that door, we get $800. We next see door...#3,
which gives her a refrigerator, dishwasher and stove
worth $2,097. The streak, however, is over, as a Trip to
Miami (and $300 for Travel Expenses) to go with a new
living room for a total of $5,026 was the Gran Trato -
and it was under the Door that no one picked (#2). Oh
well.
Happy Yom Kippur! For all of the Jews out there, may
your fast be an easy one! |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by
Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
Yesterday, we saw Andrea
Ribaudo (New York, NY) get to $2,000, using the 50:50 on
the way. How well will she do today?
Andrea happens to spend her free time walking up and
down 66th and 67th street (which is just outside the
Millionaire studios), because she knows that this show,
"All My Children," and "One Life to Live" are taped in
that area, and she hopes that someone important there
would notice her and give her a big break. Hey, at least
now she can say she's been on one of those shows.
Anyway, the game resumes with Andrea knowing the
familiar quote from "My Fair Lady," "the rain in Spain
stays mainly in the plain." After that, she sees this
for $8,000...
Heterochromia is a physical condition in which a person
exhibits what unusual trait?
A: Different colored eyes
B: Extra fingers
C: Legs of different lengths
D: Mismatched ears
Andrea asks the audience. 87% of the studio audience and
50% of the AIM users say A. She trusts them... and
they're right! On to the $16,000 question...
Prized for its silk-producing abilities, the silkworm is
the larva of what type of insect?
A: Moth
B: Beetle
C: Cicada
D: Locust
Andrea decides to call her mom, Irene, who wanted to be
called only for "stupid TV trivia" (that's what Irene
called it, according to Andrea). This question doesn't
exactly fit that category, and as would be expected, she
doesn't have a guess. So, without a clue, Andrea walks
with $8,000. The answer, by the way, is A.
Next up is Mick McGrath (Hazlet, NJ). He says he knows a
lot of useless knowledge, and he hopes that it'll be
enough for him to get to the million dollars. We'll see
if it is indeed enough, as he starts by knowing that the
show "Bridezillas" chronicles the unraveling of women
who are preparing for a wedding (stomping Tokyo is
better left to certain 100-foot-tall monsters). Mick
does continue to show off his knowledge along the way,
knowing that the Energizer Bunny is usually depicted
beating a drum, and that seltzer water is commonly added
to wine to make a wine spritzer. In fact, Mick makes it
to $16,000 without using any lifelines! Then, he sees
this $25,000 question...
What African nation's name comes from the Portuguese
word for "shrimp"?
A: Benin
B: Gabon
C: Senegal
D: Cameroon
This happens to be one bit of useless knowledge that
Mick doesn't know, so he asks the audience. 50% of the
studio audience says D, but the AIM poll is much closer.
There, 32% says D, 31% says B, and 29% says C.
Considering how close the AIM poll was, Mick then goes
with the 50:50, and that leaves A and D. Mick still
wants some sort of assurance, so he calls his
sister-in-law, Mary. She's not 100% sure, but she says
she'd go with D. With that, Mick finally goes with D...
and he has $25,000! Then, at the $50,000 level, Mick
isn't sure enough about how much a standard 7" x 3 5/8"
x 1 3/4" gold bar weighs (approx. 27.5 lbs.), so he
switches it out for this...
With over 20% of the world's forests, what nation has
more forestland than any other?
A: Canada
B: Russia
C: United States
D: Brazil
With nothing to lose, Mick goes with his first thought
and says A... but it's B! At least he has $25,000 to
show for his efforts.
And that's all for today. We'll see someone else in the
hot seat tomorrow. |
