Hamilton
(John, Lynda, Noel, Toni, Jeff); three days |
|
Grunau (Launa,
Jeff, Danny, Megan, Victor) |
Five weeks into the new
season and we have our first bounce around on the Feud
schedule. Round 1: if the Bush family was on "Family
Feud", who would be the best player on the team? (6)
Launa gets #1, Barbara. George W. makes #4, George Sr.
is #3, Laura's #2, Jenna's #6, and (thanks to a steal),
Jeb is #5 The Hamiltons get the 95. What, no Billy Bush?
Round 2: something you
associated with Switzerland (7). Jeff gets #5, bank
accounts, but they pass. Noel gets the Alps for #1.
Skiing and chocolate also make the survey. Can the
Grunaus steal with Swiss cheese? Yes! The Grunaus get
64. Others: snow/cold, Swiss watch.
Double Round: an animal
that swims (5).
Danny's dolphin is #2, obviously. Megan gets #1, a fish.
Seal and whale also hit the board. The Hamiltons try out
beaver. Nope. The Grunaus go to 188. Other answer: dog.
Triple Round: 100 women,
something you bought because it was guaranteed to turn a
man on (4).
Megan's bra is on top of the board. A sexy dress and
perfume hit the board next. Can the champs do it with a
sexy movie? No! The Grunaus win, 461-95. Other answer:
sexy high heels.
Launa and Danny take the
Fast Money to the whole hog, $20,000. |

Jeopardy! by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
jeopardy.com
Host: Alex Trebek |
|
Melissa Prepster's going to
have to wait a week, because this week, the kids take
over. It's Back to School Week, and here are your
starting three...
|
Pranita Ramakrishnan
(future neurologist from Centerville, VA) |
|
Madeline Suchard
(future Supreme Court Justice from Placentia, CA) |
|
Andrew Vogl (amateur skier from Yonkers, NY) |
There is a reason that
one of the names sounds familiar. Madeline's mom writes
up "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart" for this site. And
while we pride ourselves on our impartiality here at the
'net, there's a reasonable chance that Jeff and Julie
are reading this. And since both are good friends of
ours, sock it to'em nice and proper, Maddie.
Pranita starts this show
off with $200 Let's Go To The Movies. Madeline finds the
Daily Double way early under $600 Kids in History. She
bets the max of $1000, please, on a Scotland-1747-born
cabin boy at age 12, an American Revolutionary hero
later on. "Who is John Paul Jones?" And just like that,
she's got $1600.
It should be noted that
today's players will receive an AOL prize pack with a
Vaio and printer in addition to all that Sony Pictures
money. And speaking of which, Madeline's got the most of
it, $7600 at the half to Andrew's $3400. Pranita, with
$200 on her board, gets to go first in Double
Jeopardy!...
... with $400
"B" In Science, finding the first of the two Daily
Doubles under the $1200 level. With $2200, she only bets
$1000 on the theory that the universe was created in a
cosmic explosion. "What is the Big Bang Theory?" Right
on for $3200. Madeline finds the second Daily Double
under $800 10-Letter Words. She bets $1400 of her lead
on the only continent to fit the category. "What is
Antarctica?" Got it for $15,000. She'll end in the lead
after a decent little run out with 19 large to Andrew's
$10,200. Good news for both of them: a big payday. Bad
news for Pranita: she can't be a part of it. With -$400,
she's out in third with $1000 and a new laptop.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Children's Literature": this one-word name is
derived from the fact that the character used to sit
among the ashes.
Correct response: What is Cinderella? (on DVD by the
time you read this)
Andrew's right, betting
all-but-one, giving him $20,399. Maddie needs to be
right and to bet at least $1400. She is... and she did.
She's a player, going home and taking $20,401 with her. |

Host: Chuck Woolery |

Friends Fay (sells
healthcare) & Lonny
(a bit of a handyman) |
|
Siblings Michael (electrician) & Leslie
(entrepreneur) |
We've got four wild
people on the show today. We're going to start with the
healer and the handyman. They get TIGHT. Michael &
Leslie steal their SWIRL for 25. Fay & Lonny return the
favor with PECAN. Michael & Leslie almost WAGED war over
a word choice, but they got it in the end. And that
gives them the Lingo and the lead, 100-50.
But they're not done yet. As soon
as Shandi remembers what her function on the show is, Michael &
Leslie get MAIDS. Fay gets goofy... and then gets GOOFY... and
then gets goofy again. All that... for a red stopper. The ends the
round, with 75 to the Reds' 125.
Round 2, and the Reds
steal JOCKS for 50. Leslie clearly stated, "No red."
What's wrong with you, drum? Oh well. Back to Fay &
Lonny. They miss it. Back to Michael & Leslie with
OTHER. And another red ball for Leslie. Fay & Lonny have
a chance with CHIEF. Not anymore... Michael & Leslie get
the TENTH word this match. And ten's all we have time
for, as Michael & Leslie win it, 275-125.
With two Bonus Lingo letters, Michael & Leslie get EDGED, DIVAS,
and KNELT for three bills and three balls. Lucky board up, and it's
$10,000 for 44. Not only that... Chuck will do the "Booty-bop".
Now I'm kinda torn. Michael gets 43... no, 34. Still not a Lingo.
Sorry. Last time this happened... we had $300. Tonight... it's
$5000. |

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
|
Will this week be anything
like last week? Let's hope not. We start it with Jeffrey
West, who wins a Spaceball trampoline game system, and
then bounces on to try for a Pontiac Grand Prix. Now
while how to play Spaceball is sketchy at best, everyone
knows how to play Lucky Seven. What's important now is
that Jeffrey knows how to play it. He does. He scores
the $24,686 car with $2 gas money.
He'll face Betty Doily
in the Showcase final. The friend of Rosa Brooks (yay,
Rosa Brooks) wins a bed with mattress, but is only as
close as one can get to winning a Pontiac Sunfire
playing Cover-Up. Her guess: $17,843. The actual price:
$17,841.
After Bob helps her spin
to win in the Showcase Showdown, she is passed a
Showcase of the untold story of Excalibur. In it,
there's a magic set, a home gym, and a Ford F150. She
bids $24,500. Meanwhile, Jeffrey gets a dining room set
with dinnerware, CD jukebox, and a trip to Switzerland.
He tags it all at $16,350. The actual price: $19,053.
Not a bad bid. What's Betty's Showcase worth? $22,559.
The poor friend of Rosa Brooks is over, and Jeffrey is
driving home with $46,435 in cash and prizes. Not a bad
start to the week, I must say.
Others:
Tiffany Jones: team dual trike; $10,000 winning Grand
Game
Claudia Oros: electric guitar; fireplace & trip to
Carmel, CA winning Magic Number
Davina Matthews: tennis equipment; compact binoculars,
gumball lamp & home theatre with LCD TV playing Shell
Game
Coe Branch: tub & faucet set
Stats: 4/6, $74,248, and
one player (Claudia) to put Bob into hiding. |

Score by
Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 4:30p ET/3:30p CT on MTV
Host: Ryan Cabrera |
|
You have to like a show that explains
the premise in the opening montage. Two songwriters will hook up
with Ryan and his band to write and perform a song each in one
day. The "dream girl" will then decide who gets to date her based
on the songs. One of those things that works on paper. Let's see
it in practice...
|
Andrew (24;
Columbus, OH; tutor); describes music as acoustic
rock; apparently likes to play football on a golf
course |
|
Alex (20;
Scottsdale, AZ; former basketball player); quit
basketball to pursue a music career |
|
Allison (18;
Calabasas, CA; cover model); a fan of playing
country music really really loud |
Ryan describes Allison
as "ridonkeylous." Not sure if that'll fly in Scrabble,
but I can give it a shot. In Allison's intro tape, she
mentions that her song has to have these words: Allison,
cowgirl, trendy, positive. Are our two troubadours up to
it? A trip to Cabo San Lucas is on the line. Because
what's a dating game show without an actual date? You
have eight hours starting... now.
Ryan intro's Andrew and Alex to
the band, KC (bass), Taylor (guitar), Ethan (guitar), Josh
(keyboards), and Jordan (drums). With six hours to go, Alex is
left with the band, while Ryan helps Andrew with his song and with
remembering how to play a guitar. Alex, meanwhile, wants the band
to play country. Could help, but can pop country really exist
without being cheesy? Answer... no. They rock out instead. Ryan's
notes on Alex: good lyrically, but needs work making the song make
sense.
Time to switch! Alex envisions a
mix of pop and country, while Andrew doesn't really want to make a
ballad a ballad. The band suggests ending on a high note...
literally. He wants the chorus to project. Alex likes when Alison
wears "boots and not much more." Ryan: "You're a dirty man. I like
it." Ryan's note on Andrew: really confident, but may be cocky.
Performance time, and who comes on
stage first? Not Andrew... Not Alex... Not Ryan... but Allison.
Gotta know what you're playing for. Alex is up first,
singing "Allison". Seems like Alex just might have it sewn up from
the opening round. He is four for four on words. What might trip
him.... that "boots and not much more" line. Allison thought it
was amazing.
Next up, Alex. After talking the
smack, he sings a song called "I Want to Be With You." He is four
for four, but the thing is, the lyrics needed some definite polish
and it just sounds like we've heard it before (and this is
supposed to be something "different", mind you). Allison thought
both were good... but she chooses Andrew's song. Andrew & Allison
are off to Cabo, and that's it, game over... Oh wait, Ryan wants
to sing now. Pretentious, ain't he? |

Trato
Hecho by
Gordon Pepper, GSNN
Air time: 12p ET/11a CT on Univision
Host: Guillermo Huesca |
|
|
We start today with an
unusual sight - someone dressed as a businessman. We're
ready to do business though, as Guillermo gives Jose
$400. He gets weighted - and he weighs 190 pounds.
Yudith the Cat Lady says that he weighed 158, while
Elvira the clown says that he weighs 165. Yudith is
closer, so she wins $400 - which she can spend right
away on the small box. She decides to hold on to the
money and gives up a trip to Las Vegas and $600 worth of
gas for a total of $1,200. Does Jose want to spend his
money on Curtain #1? He doesn't, but he could have had a
nice lawn mower and a storage shelf worth $1,097!
We haven't seen a chasco
yet. Marisela, who is dressed as a giant pumpkin,
doesn't want to see one now. She gets not a Chasco, but
$100, which she can spend in one of two ways - either
buying Vitacilina and what's behind it, or Curtain #3.
Marisela wants some Vitacilina, so she buys that. Behind
the curtain - ah there's the first Chasco of the day, as
we see a stuffed donkey with an old man with a mop on
his head. Inside the Vitacilina - $1,000! A nice deal
for Marisela as she sits down happy.
We go to the jungle to
get Aida the cheetah woman. She gets a packet of money
with $20 on each side, which she can trade for Curtain
#2. She does and gets a nice refrigerator worth $1,095.
The money goes to Roger the sumo wrestler - and now we
add another packet with $100 on each side. He can keep
the money or trade it for Curtain #1. He keeps the money
and turns down a trip to the Chasco Barber Shop, where
the guy with a mop on his head is getting a trim. Total
of the money in the packets? $745, which is a nice deal
for Roger.
But who wants to go
after something nice - such as over $14,000 worth of
stuff? Cheetah woman Aida and Pumpkin lady Marisela both
do, and we have your two traders. Elizabeth wants Door
#1 and Marisela wants door #3. What we see first? Door
#2, where that person would have gotten a trip to
Mexico, a camera and some watches worth a total of
$5,110. That's usually the Gran Trato, but not on this
show. Next up is door #....1, where Aida will get
$1,000. It's Marisela which will get the Gran Trato -
which is a Ford worth $14,685! Marisela is thrilled as
we leave you on this Columbus Day weekend. |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by
Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
As we begin the 5th week of
the current season of Millionaire, Bill Euler (Deer
Park, NY) is at $4,000, with 2 lifelines available. Will
he make it to the million?
Bill's wife of 43 years could still use an engagement
ring, but that's second on his list if he gets the
million dollars. What is first on his list? "A sports
car to get to the jewelry store." Nice way to
prioritize. Anyway, they get things rolling with this
$8,000 question...
E for "Everyone," T for "Teen" and M for "Mature" are
standard ratings assigned to which of these modes of
entertainment?
A: Video games
B: Comic books
C: Pop music
D: Cable TV series
Bill decides to call his daughter, Laura, who is sure
that it's A. He trusts her... and it's A! After getting
through the next question, Bill is then asked, for
$25,000, what instrument plays a note that an orchestra
traditionally tunes itself to before a symphony concert.
Not bothering to use the 50:50, Bill takes a shot at it
and says it's the flute... but it's the oboe! That sends
Bill home with $1,000. Not enough money for a car, but
hey, he might still be able to get a decent ring for his
wife with that.
Next up is Cheryl Stokes (Raleigh, NC). She just had a
baby, and at the same time, she started a sandwich shop
business. She could probably use money for both, and a
million should be more than enough. Cheryl starts by
knowing that lovelorn singles are often reminded after a
breakup that "there are lots of other fish in the sea"
(I don't think saying "there are lots of other losers on
the Internet" would be too encouraging). She then moves
along, getting through questions such as one which asks
what dietary nutrient bran is a recommended source of
(fiber). Soon enough, she gets to this one, worth
$8,000...
In a 2004 guest appearance, Jon Stewart testily accused
what now-defunct show of engaging in "partisan hackery"?
A: Hannity & Colmes
B: Crossfire
C: Face the Nation
D: The Capital Gang
Cheryl asks the audience. But before they vote, Meredith
reads out the question and choices again, something that
we don't normally see her do at this point. Anyway, the
studio audience and AIM users vote, and we see that 48%
and 59% (respectively) are in favour of B. Cheryl goes
with B... and they're right! Then, at the $16,000 level,
she calls her nephew Jeff to find out that the femur is
the strongest bone in the human body. After that comes
this for $25,000...
As of 2005, what is the approximate population of planet
Earth?
A: 3.5 billion
B: 4.5 billion
C: 5.5 billion
D: 6.5 billion
Cheryl goes for it and says D... and she becomes the
first person since Sept. 26 to get to $25,000! As a
result, it's also been that long since we've seen the
Switch-the-Question lifeline become available to a
player! But at the $50,000 level, Cheryl doesn't know
what term refers to the chirping sound a cricket makes
when it rubs its wings together (stridulation). So, she
makes use of that lifeline and switches it out, then,
after a commercial break, this one is subbed in, for
$50,000...
After separating from his first wife in the 1980s, John
Kerry made the gossip pages by dating which of these
actresses?
A: Morgan Fairchild
B: Linda Evans
C: Kathleen Turner
D: Debra Winger
Cheryl uses the 50:50, leaving A and D. Since it's a
free guess at this point, she goes for it and says A...
and she's up to $50,000!
4 questions left. No lifelines left. Can Cheryl win a
million dollars? We'll have to wait until tomorrow to
find out. |
