Erin,
Alyson & Tara (best
friends) |
Kerron, Dwayne & Tyrone
(business partners) |
Round 1 ($100 per word): connect
DEAD with WAY. Tyrone, although you would've guessed otherwise, is
dead PAN. Kerron gets pan FRIED... like chicken. Tara gets fried
SHRIMP. Alyson gets shrimp TAIL, and Tara completes it with GATE
for the $300-$200 lead. Speed Chain: COLD - M - L - TAMER. It's
not "medicine lion". It's "mountain lion."
Round 2 ($200 per word): connect
DRIVEN with HAT. Dwayne gets driven SNOW. Alyson wears a PARTY
hat. Erin goes to an OFFICE party. Alyson gets snow STORM, while
Dwayne gets FRONT to complete the chain. They have $600 to the
girls' $900. Speed Chain: TABLE - T - S - CYCLE. "Top Spin."...
count it.
And you can't see it, but Tyrone's
grill will make Paul Wall jealous.
Round 3 ($300 per word): connect
EARLY with WRAP. Erin's an early MORNING girl. Kerron gets BUBBLE
wrap. Dwayne gets the lead with the morning PAPER. Kerron
gets paper THIN. Dwayne collects from AIR. That gives them the
$2000-$1200 lead. Final Speed Chain: FUNNY - B - C - FRIDAY. "Baby
crib"... don't make sense. It's "Business casual."
Round 4: connect
BELT with ROOM. Chain: BELT - BUCKLE - UNDER - CURRENT -
FASHION - EMERGENCY - ROOM. The guys win it, $2000 to
$300.
Bonus Round:
The brothers get amen, "Titanic", professor, picnic...
and that's it.

Felix
(Gabriel, Elizabeth, Ernie, Elvira, Gordon); $20,000 |
Davis
(Michael, Annie, Stacy, Keith, Sheila) |
Yesterday, we said that
Kristen won the Sudden Death face off. It was actually
Gordon. Our mistake.
Round 1: a way you might
know you are at a cheat wedding (6). Small cake
eliminates all the food for #1, but Michael gets
control. A cheap place, a cheap dress, cheap music, and
cheap booze are also up there. What's #3? The Felix try
with cheap decor... Nope. Davises get 72. Other answer:
paper/plastic.
Round 2: something your
kids don't seem to know how to turn off (5).
Elizabeth fires with the TV, number one. We try (and
fail) to turn off the lights and their mouths before we
go to the Davises. They go with water... And they're up
to 144. Other answer: computer.
Double: a food you think
should be chosen as the national food of America (full
board). Stacy's chicken is #4, but Ernie's hot dog is
#2. Elvira gets a burger for #1. The Davises try to
steal with French fries... Yes! They have 252. Other
answer: apple pie (also said).
Triple: something
associated with ancient Egypt (4). Keith gets the big
one, pyramids. Mummies are up there... Felixes need this
to force sudden death. They go with King Tut... And we
have overtime! Other answer: the Sphinx. Felix trail,
222 to 252 going into...
Sudden Death: something
you've been told you have a heart of. That's Sheila.
"Gold." That's the win, 519-222.
Keith is backstage, while
Stacy gets 58. Keith gets ... only up to 140 for $700.
In the nightcap, the
Suggs (Emma, Angelina, Steven, Mike, Gina; $675) take on
the Gomezes (Jasmin, Peter, Jessica, Billy, Roxy). You
can see the score after three, 279-88 in favor of the
Gomezes. Triple: something people get in and out of (4).
Billy fires with his car for #1. Bed and shower leave
only #3. We go to the Suggs... they go with elevators...
Not there! Gomezes win, 522-88. Other answer: trouble.
Billy and Jasmin take on
Fast Money, earning $980. So close... |

Eric Barela
Los Angeles
educational researcher
$68,802, three days |
Ray Sun
Lebanon, NH
college student |
Suzette Mariotti
Royal Oak, MI
milliner |
"Big Mo is on Eric's
side." We'll see for how long.
He starts with $200 Jackass--The Category. After an
initial brain fart, Eric moves into second at the TV
time out with $1600 against Suzette's $1000. But Ray is
the early aggressor with $6000.
Last category in play is
State Songs, as Ray finds the Daily Double under $800.
He bets $4000 on this: the title of this state song is
simply the name of the state with an exclamation point
after it. "Okay, well there are 50 possible answers to
this. Um... what is 'Oklahoma!'?" OK for $10,800. Ray
also picks up the final clue for $11,800, giving him a
$9000+ lead over Eric's $2400 and Suzette's $1800. Both
are going to need some serious momentum as Suzette
starts up Double Jeopardy!...
...
with $400 Edible Rhyme Time. Eric finds the Daily Double
under $1200 Prague. The wager if $4000. Jimmy, it's all
yours. "This novelist lives within the castle at #22
Golden Lane, a few years before he wrote his novel, 'The
Castle'." "Who is Kafka?" ... is right for $10,000! But
Ray finds the Daily Double under $800 Estimated Prophet.
He goes in for $6000 on this: the Hadith is a collection
of the words & deeds of this prophet. "Who is Mohammed?"
Right for $20,600. This could be an interesting final
with Ray leading, $19,800 to Eric's $14,400 and
Suzette pretty much out of it with $4600.
Final Jeopardy! in "Historical Terms": historians
refer to "the long 19th Century", the 125-year span
between these 2 events. Correct question: what are the
French Revolution and World War I?
Ray... is the only one with the right question, as he
knocks off Eric to win $28,801. Eric leaves with
$70,802, and something tells me that this isn't the last
we've heard of him. |

If you're playing along with
Gold Rush on AOL.com, you may want to pay attention to
this particular episode of TPIR, because the first IUFB...
four bars of gold. And Mary Van Pelt, Dorita Lewis,
Barbara Holloway, and Rosa Huelle will just have to pay
enough attention to know that the price of the bars at
the show's taping is $2840. Mary does as she gets to
take her gold... down the Golden Road. Today, a can of
mushrooms worth 81 cents at Ralphs can get Mary
dinnerware... or a floor clock... or an $86,000+ Dodge
Viper, the most expensive prize ever offered on the day
show! The dinnerware is $_75. Is that blank an 8 or a 1?
Mary goes with 8... Right! Next stop, a clock. It's
$3_70. Is that number an 8, or a 7, or a 5? She goes
with the 5... and we're going to the Viper! The price is
marked: $86,_43. It's either a 3, a 5, a 7, or a 0. She
goes with the 7.... SHE WINS THE VIPER! It's $86,743!
She'd be the season's big winner were it not for the DSW
on Show 35.1. It's
all yours, baby.
Kevin Bradel is down and
up thanks to an $808 trampoline. He's only off by eight
bucks, but he can win $1000 if he can watch the Clock...
Game, that is. The prizes are a pair of patio heaters
and a fridge/freezer. First up, the heaters... $599. He
gets them in 19 seconds. Kevin can't convert with the
$999 fridge, though.
Barbara wins a $1299
Encyclopedia Brittanica, as she gets to pick out the
Most Expensive out of a day bed with sleep set, four
girl guitars, and a riding lawn mower. She picks the
mower. The day bed is... $2894. The guitars are...
$1431. The lawn mower... $980. Darn. But don't feel too
bad for her. She wins her way into the Showcase.
Next up to begin the
second half, a Big Green Egg. John Keller wins it at
$900. On stage next, a home gym, Pilates machine, and an
air bike. The game is Secret X, as John wins a $10 mop
and a $19 Freecell game, as well as the two Xes to go
with them. He goes upper right and lower right. The free
X is upper left. Just hope we're not looking at an X on
the bottom. It is... Top! That's three in a row, and
that's a win!
Rosa wins a $1886 lounge
chair. Next up for her... a Ford Focus in That's Too
Much! She thinks $18,990 is Too Much! And That's... WAY
Too Much! She should've stopped one block prior,
$17,540.
Last chance for Dorita
with a table tennis package. Actual retail price: $578.
Winner... John Swidzinski. He gets a shot, literally, at
a jet ski in Bullseye. The products are... Uncle Ben's
brown rice, Pillsbury crescent rolls, Westbrae Natural
salad beans, O Cedar squeegee, and Birdola bird cake. He
starts with the beans, five of them. Each one... 99
cents. That gives him $4.95, but not the Bullseye. Next
is the rice... He takes six of them. Each one is $1.99.
$11.94, total equals a Bullseye! He also gets a shot at
more with a spot as the top winner in the Showcase.
First up, some ways to
save a few bucks involving a washer/dryer, an offroad
motorcycle, and a trip to China. John bids $15,000.
Barbara gets a Showcase with a view... we have a view of
Colorado via hot air balloon, a view of TPIR on an HDTV,
and a view of the horizon on a sailboat. Barbara bids
$30,000. Actual price: $40,386. Difference of $10,000
and change. Actual price of John's Showcase... $20,454!
He wins it with $30,130 in stuff, but you have to admit,
it pales in comparison to the $94,000 won by Mary won
earlier...
STATS: breakeven,
$133,804. |

The Herreras of Chicago
lead this match, 139-30 after three. Double: something a
doctor takes in his briefcase... (4). Natalia with the
premature buzz-in goes blank. The full question for
Elizabeth, name something a doctor takes in his
briefcase when he goes on house calls. She tries a
stethoscope. Which was what Natalia was pantomiming five
seconds ago. Elizabeth gets the word out, and the number
one. A thermometer and medicines are also up there. The
Herreras have a shot at it with a blood pressure cuff...
That's a steal for 224!
Triple: when people say
"I swear!", who do they swear on (4)? Jenny swears on
her mother for #2. Ricardo swears to God for #1. Kids
finish it for the win, 512-139.

Herrera (Rafael,
Nancy, Daysi, Natalia, Ricardo); $500 |

Rodriguez (Mercedes,
Magdalena, Margarita, Monica, Jorge); $5500; two
games |
The Rodriguez are giving
the challengers a run, leading 244-0 going into this
Double round: something money can't buy (3). Health is
#2, but the Beatles said it best. "Money can't buy me
love." Way to go, Natalia. Happiness gets the Herreras
on the board with 188.
Triple: a thing you you
see on a firetruck (4). Ricardo gets the top answer of
hoses. We also see ladders, sirens, and firefighters for
the sweep and the win, 485-244.
Dinero Rápido: Nancy and
Rafael are back again. Nancy draws $500. Together, she
and Rafael get... 183. At least they have $1500 for
today.

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire? by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
Gary DeAngelo (Holliston,
MA) reached $4,000 yesterday, and he still has all his
lifelines at his disposal going into today.
His wife and his mother are in the audience, as Gary
explains that he wants to use the money he wins on a
honeymoon for him and his wife. They haven't had one
yet, so it would really come in handy. So, with that,
the game resumes...
[$8,000]
What U.S. state has the longest coastline?
A: Florida
B: California
C: New York
D: Alaska
Gary decides to ask the audience, and 71% have chosen D.
He goes with D... and that's what it is! Next
question...
[$16,000]
In 2006, what religious leader made the dubious claim
that, when he was nearly 73, he could leg press 2,000
pounds?
A: Billy Graham
B: Jerry Falwell
C: Pat Robertson
D: Jimmy Swaggart
Gary has a feeling, and that feeling is that he needs to
use the 50:50. So he does, and it leaves B and C. He
then says C... and he's right! Moving on...
[$25,000]
Spoken by a character named Bonasera, the first line of
"The Godfather" is "I believe in" what?
A: Vengeance
B: America
C: Family
D: Honor
Gary calls his friend, Dave (whom he calls Spartacus,
and vice-versa), and he's sure that it's B. Spartacus
trusts Spartacus... and Spar- er, I mean, Gary has
$25,000! On to the upper tier...
[$50,000]
Sponsored by the Dept. of Defense, the 2005 DARPA Grand
Challenge was a 131-mile race for cars that do what?
A: Travel underwater
B: Run on oxygen
C: Hover above the ground
D: Drive themselves
He's not sure enough, so Gary switches it. He would have
guessed B, but it was D. Anyway, here's the replacement
question...
[$50,000] (Q)
Before he adopted the "J," what was Michael J. Fox's
middle name?
A: Francis
B: Stephen
C: Andrew
D: Richard
Gary decides to guess D... but it's C! Oh well; he had
nothing to lose on this question, so he leaves with
$25,000!
Next up is an excited Cynthia Robbins (San Diego, CA).
She read a horoscope that told her to wear something of
a coral colour for good luck, so she painted her nails
that colour, and is wearing a coral-coloured necklace.
Hopefully, that does give her good luck, as Cynthia
starts by knowing that a verb meaning "to give a student
a failing grade" is "flunk" (hey, at least it's not as
harsh as "you stunk"). She sweeps the lower tier, then
eventually faces this...
[$16,000]
What exiled leader's brief return to power is often
referred to by historians as the "Hundred Days"?
A: Julius Caesar
B: Napoleon
C: Alexander the Great
D: Joseph Stalin
The 50:50 leaves B and D. Cynthia then calls her friend,
Pete, who guarantees that it's B. Cynthia trusts him...
and he's right! She now goes on to see this...
[$25,000]
In honor of its longtime coach, what college's
basketball team plays its home games on "Coach K Court"?
A: UCLA
B: Stanford
C: Duke
D: Arizona State
Cynthia needs the audience's help, and 73% come through
with C. She goes with it... and she has $25,000!
(C-Note: Grrr...)
And time is up for today. Cynthia will attempt to climb
the upper tier tomorrow. |
