Berry (Jessica, Frank, David, Sonja, Rachel) |
Bearie (Brian, Julie, Bonnie, Jeni, Kevin);
$670 |
Okay. This was set up.
We have the Bearies... versus the Berrys. Hope this
doesn't get Bearie Berry confusing. Round 1: soemthign
with the word "rocky" in it (5). Jessica likes rocky
road ice cream, #2. Brian likes the Rocky Horror Picture
Show, but only good for #4. Rocky movies is #1, thanks
Frank! Other Rockys: "Rocky & Bullwinkle" and Rocky
Mountains for the sweep. Berrys get 92.
Round 2: an activity
that might cause a man's toupee to fall off (7). Frank
drives with the top down for #5. Also on the Berry
mindset: making love. Can the Bearies steal with
swimming? Number one! The Bearies steal... 9! Other
answers: running/jogging, playing sports, bending over,
skydiving.
Double Round: something
that begins with "the real" (full board). Bonnie goes
with the real McCoy, #2. David gets the real deal, #3.
Number one goes to Jeni, a fan of "The Real World". The
family gets real life before they get three real
strikes. For the Berrys, ain't nothing like the real
thing for the steal and 256. Other answer: the real
story.
Triple Round: something
people do for someone who feels faint (4).Jeni gives a
glass of water for #1. The Berrys also sit, but can the
Bearies force sudden death with a cool cloth? Count it.
Other answer: fan them. The Berrys still lead, 256-192,
going into...
Sudden Death: which
college is the hardest to get into? That's Rachel...
"Harvard." It's right for the win, 460-192. The Bearies
leave with $670...
While the Berrys try for
$20,000. Spouses Jessica and Frank take on the Fast
Money Board. Frank gets high marks for "a famous monster
that only comes out at night" (Dracula, although our
friend Tim would argue for the Wolfman). He ends with
63. Jessica gets the family 152 for $760.

David Madden
(student orig. from Ridgewood, NJ, now living in
Berlin, Germany); $430,400, 19 days |
Steve Kaltenbaugh (sailor orig. from Columbia,
MD) |
Victoria Groce (musician orig. from Decatur, GA) |
Victoria says "Hi" to
mom, as David says hi to That's Just "Sad" for $800, but
it's Victoria who finds the Daily Double under $600 2005
Fiction Bestsellers. With the lead at $2800, Victoria
bets $2200 on a John Grisham tale with Joel Backman.
"What is 'The Spy'?" Nope. The Broker, as she is now
near broke, $600. But she breaks back into the game,
$5800 to David's $3400 at the half. Sailor Steve, with
two large, will start Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 "Y"s Up.
Time's Top 100 for $1200 is where Steve finds the first
Daily Double. Steve's leading this time with $8800
thanks to a rally back from third. He fronts $2500 on a
Dubliner who worked with Jeffrey Sachs on world debt
relief. "Who is Bono?" Right for $11,300. Sonnets for
$800 goes to... Victoria, as she goes all-in on this
Daily Double: "'When I consider how my light is spent'
begins his sonnet about his loss of sight." "Who is
Milton?" And Victoria has the lead with $15,600! Last
clue remains hidden, and it's anyone's game with David
in an unfamiliar position... third place. He has $7400
to Steve's $11,300 and Victoria's $13,200.
Remember, if you're
living in Seattle or Vancouver, you can register for J!
tryouts at the website above this recap. Now to
business...
Final Jeopardy! in
"Ranks & Titles": in 1950 Pius XII was Pontifex
Maximus; exactly 2,000 years earlier, this man held a
title of the same name. Correct response: Who was Julius
Caesar?
David
is right, but only bets enough to get past Victoria's
total, with $13,300. Steve... wrong with John the
Baptist, and it's HIS head. Victoria... is right. Did
she wager more than $100... As our good friend James
Dinan would say... Madden, meet TRASH. TRASH, Madden.
Victoria Groce, your new J! champion with $22,801.
Meanwhile, David Madden
literally waves goodbye with $432,400. Trust me, guys...
Video is forthcoming. |

Good friends Summer
(freelance typist) & Alex (handyman) |
College
roomates/best friends Rebecca (studio tour
guide) & Marisa (assistant) |
After the balls fall
into place, it's all about a P for Summer and Alex. That
P is for PRICK, as in the type you get on your finger if
you handle a 2x4. Rebecca & Marisa steal TOUGH. But
karma's another kind of prick, as Marisa comes up red.
Summer & Alex follow the RULES with ADOPT, and then Alex
gets stopped by a stopper. Summer & Alex get the draw
back with HUMID, and then Summer drops the red ball.
They get the draw back again with OUTER. And Alex pulls
the last stopper. Once again, the draw comes back with
IDEAS, and this time, the end result is Lingo for the
Yellows, giving them 200-25 going into the half.
Round 2 starts with
Summer & Alex getting a new board.. and FLOSS for 50.
Rebecca & Marisa get PATIO for the backsteal. Yes, I
just made that up. They follow with SALTY, but Rebecca
hurts her team with the red ball. Summer & Alex MOUNT an
offensive, giving them the game, 300-125.
With two Bonus Lingo
letters, Summer & Alex get STEAK, GRIPE, RODEO, FUNNY,
and PAGED, missing QUIRK, but still getting 5 in two
minutes. Taht $500 and five balls. Not a heck of a lot
you can do with those, but if you draw 12 on the first
pick, it's worth $10,00. Alex draws... 11. Nothing
added, and we're going for $5000 now. Last shot at it,
and it's more or less 50/50 with five out of nine
unlocked. And 39 is not one of them, so the good friends
take home $500. |

Ladies and gentlemen, here
we go for the 34th year! In true season premiere style,
Barker and his gang started the season off big. The
first item up for bids was a trip to Cancun, valued at
$3,046. Bobette Boggs, the third of the first four
contestants took that trip with a $3000 bid. Her game:
GOLDEN ROAD. Starting with a pack of pencil erasers
(81¢), she flew thru a 4 piece set of Pathfinder Luggage
($845) and a Beachcomber hot tub ($6495) before coming
to the end of the Golden Road. What Bob described as
"Cool, super, and awesome" certainly was. Valued at over
$85,000: a Dodge Viper SRT 10. The reveal was 8 5 _ 9 4.
Choice: 6.
how many are there in her family
?
how many
people would comfortably fit in that car
?
ITS THE
SIX! She won the Viper! One game into the 34th season,
and we already have a player challenging Amy Remple's
PRICE6000 record. Amy's total: $97,130; Bobette's total
to this point: $96,080.
Following GR in the first half: 1/2 Off (played to a
perfect win by Dustin Berkeheart, who also won tennis
equipment) and Push Over (played for a $7,039 folding
trailer and won by Zane Lertis, who won a lovely
treadmill). Perfect first half of the show, and we're
not a full day into the season. Because of her enormous
Golden Road take, Bobette had the privilege of spinning
last. Dustin and Zane spun to .85 and 1.30 respectively.
Bobette steps to the wheel, spins 20, then 80 for
another $1000 and a bonus spin. Unfortunately, the wheel
stopped one spot short of $5000, on 90 cents. Bobette is
thru to the Showcases, now standing $50 shy of Miss
Remple.
The second half kicked off just as well as the first
half. Natalie Sardia (the last of the First Four) won
her IUFB, a side by side refrigerator/freezer valued at
$1,349. Her game: SWITCH? for TWO CARS!! Car #1:
Chevrolet Cobalt, marked as $18,151. Car #2: Pontiac
Sunfire, marked as $16,110. Her decision: Switch the
prices. The crowd doesnt like her decision
The result:
4th winner in a row! Total winnings for Natalie:
$35,610. The final game, Pick A Pair, was also won for a
$14,645 game room, including a pool table, pinball
table, and soda fountain. Good haul for Sean Lovitz.
The show's only loss came with the fifth game, Dice
Game. Played for a Ford Focus ZX3SE, contestant Brock
Rose was given the first digit: "1". Brock rolled the
second digit: "6". Next three rolls: "3", wrong, called
higher; "5", wrong, called lower; "1", wrong, called
higher. In true Barker style, he revealed the last digit
first since it was guaranteed right. The painful
mistake: "3" called higher; correct number was 2.
Everything else was called correctly.
Then came the first two Showcases of the 34th year. Top
Winner: Bobette. Runner Up: Natalie. The first Showcase
was a celebration of the 34th year, consisting of a DVD
of "Miracle on 34th Street", a TV/DVD combo, a trip to
Washington D.C., and a "prize that holds exactly 34
gallons of fuel," a Dodge Ram 1500. Bobette passed,
Natalie bid $21,000. The second Showcase was all about
change, consisting of a jar of change valued at $1000, a
trip to Tahiti, and a Cadillac XLR convertible. After
some audience deliberation, Bobette's bid was $60,000.
Bobette was a far piece away from her Showcase, ARP
$91,426. Natalie won her Showcase, ARP $31,137, to end
up with a final total of $66,747.
STATS: 5/6; Total winnings = $200,260
For those of us who are Rich Fields fans out there and
wait till the very last second of the show before the
credit squeeze to see Rich, he was sporting a dark gray
suit today.
On a personal note, this is my first "Price" recap for
GSNN. Thank you, Gordon and Chico, for giving me this
opportunity to exercise my writing skills. I hope
everyone out there enjoys reading this as much as I
enjoyed writing it. |

Air time: 12p ET/11a CT on Univision

We're not giving out Vipers
and Cadillacs on this show (sorry), but we'll hopefully
be giving out good stuff as Guillermo approaches Lesbia,
Laura and Martita and has them come down. Lesbia and
Laura each get $400, but Martita will get the money if
the women trade it away. For instance, Lesbia gives her
$400 to Martita in exchange for the curtain - which has
bicycles worth $1,030. Laura keeps the money and gives
up a Washer and Dryer system worth $1,098. Does she want
to give up her $400 for Curtain #3? No she doesn't, and
she gives up a Mad scientist dissecting an AlienChasco!
The show may not be going
to the dogs, but Octavio is dressed up like one.
Guillermo gives him $500 to get rid of the fleas -
unless he wants to give it back for Curtain #2. He
doesn't want the curtain and he turns down the
ChascoAlien having a picnic with his cardboard saucer
and his pig doll. Octavio barks for the camera as we go
to break. Here comes the bride (named Maria), while
Pablo (who is dressed like a slobby bachelor) will be
joining her on stage. We play Dominoes - one of them
leads to a living room set worth $2,181, one of them
leads to Patio Furniture, a lobster gram and a grill
worth $1,617, and one of them leads to nothing. Maria
takes tile #3. Pablo takes tile #2. Before we see what
they have, either of them can bail out and take some
Vaticilina and what goes with it. Maria decides to bail
out, and gets $500, which is a safe bet, while Pablo
sticks with his tile. Maria makes...a bad choice,
because her tile led to the living room set. Pablo also
maked a bad choice, because his tile led to nothing.
Ouch.
Will one of them make
the right choice and win the Gran Trato? Lesbia and
Octavio will be making the choices, as they give up what
they've won. Lesbia wants #3 and Octavio wants #1.
Neither of them wants #2, which has $700. Next up, door
#3 for Lesbia, which gives her a new bedroom set worth
$2,301. Octavio can now bark for joy, because he has the
Gran Trato, which today is a Mexican Vacation to
Acapulco, along with a digital camera and kitchen
appliances (refrigerator, trash compactor and stove)
which total for a value of $5,127!
That's now 4 wins in a
row. Tune in tomorrow to see if we can extend the
streak to 5. |

another round...
...which is FUN AND GAMES. It's FINAL SPIN TIME. $1,900
a letter tonight. And Mindy wins with TECHNICAL
KNOCKOUT. She has $7,600. And she has a huge total of
$33,250 in cash and trip. Monica is also travel bound to
Jamaica and cash too. She leaves with $12,800! Cory had
no luck, but we give him $1,000.
Can we add to the total of $46,000+ with the first bonus
round win of the season? Remember if Mindy wins a
car...so do you! She lands on the N in WIN. Her category
tonight is PHRASE. And with the choices of RTSLNE and
her choices of CHPO we have:
H _ L _ -
_ _ _ E _
She had no choice, because her guesses were HALF-BAKED.
And she lost her bonus round prize. We are 0 for Bonus
rounds so far. Don't feel too bad as she leaves with
$33,250 in cash and a trip to Waikiki! |

On Friday, we saw Carol
Forgione (Brewster, MA) make her way up to $4,000. How
much farther will she go?
Of course, you may also remember that she's just there
to win enough money to buy a new mattress, to replace
her old one. Meredith mentions that a king-size mattress
is worth $2,000, so Carol could just stop here. But
she'll continue anyway, and after resuming the game,
knowing that "French Women Don't Get Fat" (at least
according to the title of a 2005 bestseller), she uses
the 50:50 at the $16,000 level to help deduce that the
full first name of Secretary of State "Condi" Rice has
only 1 L (Condoleezza). And then, up comes this $25,000
question...
On TV's "The Muppet Show," what is the name of the
character who is fond of throwing boomerang fish?
A: Vinnie Zuela
B: Mel Salvador
C: Lew Zealand
D: Hugo Slavia
Carol decides to call her brother, Bill, but
unfortunately, he couldn't even come up with a guess.
So, without any further help, Carol calls it quits. The
answer turns out to be C, but at least now she can
afford a new mattress with some of the $16,000.
Next up is Don Wilson (New York, NY), and he's a tour
planner who has a 3-month-old boy at home. We'll see if
he can make a million dollars for his kid, as he starts
off by knowing the common saying "You scratch my back
and I'll scratch yours". Don brezzes through the next
few questions, including one that asks what Hot Wheels
is a brand of (miniature cars), before reaching this one
for $4,000...
Which of these TV network abbreviations can be typed
using only the bottom row of letters on a standard
keyboard?
A: ABC
B: CBS
C: NBC
D: PBS
Don asks the audience, and 83% of the studio audience
says C, while 85% of the AIM users agree. (I'd expect
this would be easy for AIM users like myself, since such
a keyboard would likely be right in front of us.) After
joking for a moment about going against the audience,
Don goes with them and says C... and it is! Another
question later, and at the $16,000 level, Don has to
phone John, a friend of someone he met on the show, to
find out that Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter
series was named Tom Riddle before becoming a villain.
Afterwards, he gets this $25,000 question...
What state's name was a code name for one of the beaches
stormed by U.S. forces during the D-Day invasion?
A: Oregon
B: Utah
C: Maine
D: Ohio
Even though he had a feeling it was B, Don uses the
50:50. Sure enough, B is still there, and so is A. Don
goes for it and says B... and he has $25,000! He gets
Switch the Question, but he has to use it right away,
because he doesn't know what was made from gopher wood
according to the Bible (Noah's Ark). So, that question
is switched with this one for $50,000...
Which of these classic novels begins and ends with the
title character's name?
A: David Copperfield
B: Tess of the D'Urbervilles
C: Mrs. Dalloway
D: Lolita
Since it's a free guess at this level, Don takes a shot
at it and says B... but it's D! That means he's heading
home with $25,000.
No time for the next contestant today, though, but there
will be plenty of time for him/her tommorrow. |
