Butcher
(Heidi, Corie, Amie, Marcie, Kelli); $20,610 |
|
Bearie (Brian, Julie, Bonnie, Jeni, Kevin) |
We have very Bearie
challengers for our championship sisters today. Round 1:
past or present, a TV show set on an island (5). Heidi
gets #1, "Gilligan's Island". Rest of the girls get
"Survivor" and "Fantasy Island". Can the Bearies steal
with "Hawaii Five-0?" Yes! The Bearies have 87. Other
answer: "Lost".
Round 2: something you'd
expect to see at a psychiatrist's office (5). Corie
fires with "people in straitjackets". Those would be
patients, #2. Julie gets a couch, #1. Nothing else from
the family, but the Butchers can steal with the
psychiatrist himself. Up there? Nope. That gives the
Bearies 162. Other answers: diploma/degree, picture/ink
blots.
Double Round: something
that never works just when you need it the most (5).
Bonnie gets #1, the car. Rest of the family can only
come up with a cell phone. A pen and a flashlight are
possibles with the girls, but Heidi goes with
flashlight. #2, giving them 86. Other answers: pen, can
opener.
Triple Round: past or
present, a famous Joan (4). Marie gets #4, Joan Collins.
Kelli gets #1, Joan Rivers. Heidi gets Joan of Arc. And
that's it for the champs, as the challengers try to
steal with Joan Crawford. That'll do it for the win,
402-86. The Butcher sisters leave with $20,610.
But can Julie and Jeni
come up with $20,000? Julie only gets 61 thanks to two
goose-eggs, and Jeni gets one number one for "a part of
the mouth" (lips) for a total of 134, giving them $670
today. |

David Madden
(student orig. from Ridgewood, NJ, now living in
Berlin, Germany); $413,900, 18 days |
|
Eric Rosen (production assistant from Los
Angeles) |
|
Janet Kaufman (homemaker from Ijamsville, MD) |
"Okay, Alexth, I want
Mythellaneouth for eight hundreth." That's how the man
known as Mr. Madden starts this, his 19th game. And
after a while, all three are in negative numbers. Things
would soon change, as David leads $2200 to Eric's $600
at the break. Janet fought her way back to zero.
David unearthed a part
of his family history at the Isle of Wight... his
great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents. After
searching through "The King", Eric unearths the Daily
Double under $400 You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog. He
bets $1500 on the two hounds with the keenest sense of
smell according to the AKC. "What are bloodhound... and
blue?" Nope, it was a Basset hound, leaving Eric with
$500. That's where he ends the round as the blips sound.
Janet's at $1200 and David at $4800.
Eric opens up Double
Jeopardy! with with $400 Around the World. David finds
the first Daily Double under the $1200 level. He wagers
$4200 on the section of London that's home to Harrods.
"What is Knightsbridge?" Right on for $11,000. David
also finds the second Daily Double under $1600 Let's
Spice It Up a Bit. He bets $2600 on the spice that
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi used to isolate vitamin C. "What is
paprika?" Right for $18,000. The $2000 clue in
Physics will remain hidden as David makes it a blowout
with $24,000 to Janet's $8000 and Eric's $2900.
Remember, if you're
living in Seattle or Vancouver, you can register for J!
tryouts at the website above this recap. Now to
business...
Final Jeopardy! in
"20th Century Women": a group chaired by her
produced a system that President Bush says now needs
"wise and effective reform". Correct response: Who is
Frances Perkins?
All
three are wrong, and unless David does something
incredibly ballsy, which he won't, Janet's gonna take
it.
He doesn't. He only bets
enough to ensure that whatever Janet does won't affect
his title. End result, another $16,500 added onto his
total, now standing at $430,400. |

Couple Ryan
(writer) & Anna (USA student) |
|
Good
friends David (customer service rep at a
casino) & Anthony (contractor) |
Ryan & Anna get a J to
start, but Anna gives a G, and even if "genes" were
spelled correctly, it's still a foul. David & Anthony
get JOINT to steal 25. But David gets nothing but a red
ball, baby. Two low down players so crazy, GSN is the
network that pays me... okay, where was I? David &
Anthony get the draw back with PINCH, following with
FALSE, BUSES, and the Lingo for 150 to the Yellows'
zero. Ryan & Anna avoid the donut platter with CURVE.
But Anna draws red. Ryan gets the draw back with DOUGH,
ACHED, and... that's where the round ends, with the
score 150-75, Reds.
Round 2. We start it
with a stumper, but instead of revealing the word, we go
back to David & Anthony, since it's only guess 4. They
get THEME, but Ryan & Anna get MEALS and the Lingo,
giving them the lead, 225-200. David & Anthony take back
the lead with WHEEL, and the ice water with the ? ball
and the Lingo. Davis & Anthony win it, 350-225.
With three Bonus Lingo
letters, David & Anthony get CHEEK, LOWER, BLITZ, KNOWN,
TAPES, and WHISK, giving them six balls and six bills.
Anthony needs to draw 44 for $10,000.... He gets 2.
$10,000... gone. Now it's about the $5000. David gets
the 44 for that money. |

We got a dolly of a deal
for Manuel and Alma, a husband and wife team of dolls.
If they can get 7 bucks, they will win a Chrysler PT
Cruiser worth $15,995! All they have to do is to guess 4
products and they win the car. The first one is Elmer's
Glue, then Dawn dishwashing liquid, then Kaboom! Cleaner
and finally Hot Shot Fogger. They have to guess the glue
within 2 bucks. They say $1.95 and the glue is $1.67. No
problem there. Next - the Dawn, which they have to get
within $1.50. They say $2.56. The price is - $3.49. They
are off by 93 cents, but still within range. Because
they got the first two, this next product doesn't
matter. They have to get the Kaboom within a buck. They
say $3.99, but it's $5.99 and they are off by way too
much. It's ok, because they could afford to get it
wrong. They can't get the Fogger wrong though - and they
have to get it within 50 cents. Their guess - $7.00.
Guillermo says....that he can give them Curtain #2 if
they want to bail out. They decide to continue and give
up a small living room set with 3 mini sofas and 3
tables worth $2,481. Did they win the car? The Fogger
is...$5.47. No car. No living room. They get 3 bucks.
Awwwwwwww. We need
someone to do something right. Guillermo has a bone to
pick with
Hector, who is dressed as a skeleton. The skeleton can
have the small box - or curtain #3. Hector wants the
small box. Behind the curtain, we have a stuffed 60's
Hippie Cow (with shades, facial hair, and sunflowers)
and a frustrated bullfighter for a Chasco! Hector would
prefer the box, which has....Guillermo isn't going to
show him the small box yet. He's going to offer Hector
$300 to not take the box. Hector wants the box, and he
gets a trip to Pechanga Hotel and Casino and $600 worth
of gas for a total of $1,100! Buen Trato!
Speaking of Cows, we got Cowboy Jorge to play the Ball
game. Under one ball is $5, one is $500 and one has
nothing. While Guillermo is talking to Jorge, they are
switching the metallic shells around. When the shells
are done, Jorge selects #2. Guillermo offers Jorge the
small box to not bother with the game and Jorge picks
the small box. It's a good thing, because he selected
nothing. He gets instead a $300 certificate to Benihana,
which is better than a Chasco any time.
But it's not better than
the Gran Trato, worth over $5,000. Hector the skeleton
boy wants to go for it, as well as Benihana Jorge.
Hector wants Door #1 and Jorge wants #2. No one wants #3
- and that's what we see first, which has a new bedroom
group worth $2,361. Next is...#2, which gives Jorge a
boost from $300 to $850. The big one is for Hector, and
it is indeed behind Door #1. What is it? Carpeting and a
new kitchen, with a range, trash compactor, refrigerator
and a washer/dryer system. Everything is worth $5,061
total and that's a nice way to end the week - on a 3 win
roll. Tune in next time to see if they can keep it
rolling. |

it's finally FINAL SPIN TIME...and it's $6,000! The
first time this season! Mike solves MIGHT MAKES RIGHT
for $12,000. He finishes in 2nd place with $22,148 in
cash and cruise to the Caribbean. April had some tough
luck... and she leaves with the new house minimum of
$1,000. But Laura wins with $25,500--all cash! A nice
college fund for her two sons.
We haven't had a bonus winner or a car winner yet for
the SPIN ID...will we have one tonight? Now if Laura
wins a car, you do too! We also have had a front game
giveaway of $47,648 in cash and cruise! Laura lands on
the *** wedge. Her category tonight is THING. With the
normal 6 of RSTLNE and her choices of DWCA (with no
help) we have:
_ _ R _ L _ _ T
She had no chance...and it was FORKLIFT. And she lost a
big chunk of change--$40,000! But she leaves with
$25,500 in cash...and let's see if we can win a bonus
round next week. And we look at "Rad Van Fortuin"--the
Belgian version of Wheel (C-Note: with SHOPPING!) as we
end the week. |

Who

As we near the end of the
first week of the new season, Jony Schwartz (San Mateo,
CA) is at the $25,000 milestone, and though she used the
first 3 lifelines yesterday, she does get Switch the
Question at this point.
And they show the same picture of Jony's twin boys from
yesterday. The game resumes with her going for $50,000,
but Jony does not know which of the listed states the
Cumberland Gap doesn't pass through (it passes through
Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee, but not North
Carolina). So, she switches the question, and this is
what comes up...
Before he became House majority leader, Tom DeLay had a
successful career as a what?
A: Bug exterminator
B: High school wrestling coach
C: Auto detailer
D: Home appliance technician
Jony has a feeling that it's B, and goes for it... but
it's A! I don't know if she forgot about the Millionaire
machine mantra from yesterday, but at least she's taking
home $25,000!
Up next is Brandi Conklin (West Lafayette, IN), who had
a rough couple of days before arriving, including a bout
of pinkeye from that morning! And this student also has
some loans to pay off, which should be enough motivation
to win as much as possible here. She starts by knowing
that each state is represented on the flag by a white
star. As Brandi moves along, she has to phone John, her
uncle, when going for $1,000 to find out that the "flash
point" of a substance is the temperature where its vapor
ignites. Then, with 2 lifelines left, Brandi gets this
for $2,000...
In the movie "Scarface," Al Pacino famously yells "Say
hello to my little friend!" while holding a what?
A: Stick of dynamite
B: Trophy
C: Machine gun
D: Credit card
Brandi didn't see the movie, so she asks the audience.
And she gets a big majority vote, as 91% of the studio
audience says C, and so does 86% of the AIM users. She
goes with them, and gets $2,000! That brings us to this
$4,000 question...
The Latin phrase "In vino veritas" makes the claim that
"In wine there is" what?
A: Treachery
B: Passion
C: Truth
D: History
Brandi uses the 50:50, and it leaves B and C. She starts
to go for B, but after some more thought, changes her
mind and goes with C... and the change was good! Then,
on the $8,000 question, she guesses that the federal
minimum wage per hour as of 2005 is $6.25.
Unfortunately, it's $5.15, but Brandi will leave with
more than the minimum wage; $1,000, to be exact.
Entering the hot seat now is Carol Forgione (Brewster,
MA), who is on the show simply because she wants a
mattress. Yeah, her old one is 18 years old, so she's
here to make some money to get a new one. Of course, she
can buy a whole lot more than that if she wins a million
dollars. With that in mind, Carol starts with a question
that asks what organizations that receive aid from the
Bush administration's faith-based initiatives focus on,
and she knows that it's religion (let's face it; George
Michael songs just aren't that important). Carol then
moves through some more questions before reaching this
one, worth $4,000...
In the competition known as the Ryder Cup, Europe and
the U.S. go head-to-head in what pro sport?
A: Sailing
B: Cycling
C: Soccer
D: Golf
Carol asks the audience, and 59% of the studio audience
picks D, but the AIM poll is much closer, with D at 30%
and A at 29%. Carol was originally thinking C, but she
goes with the studio audience and says D... and she's
right!
And the horns signal the end of the first week of this
new season. Carol will return on Monday, and though she
could probably afford a new mattress by now, she'll try
for even more money then.
[By the way, it seems that this week, 5 of the 6
questions that the 50:50 was used on left B & C. I just
thought I'd note that.] |
