Lauren Hirs
(market research analyst orig. from Plano, TX);
$16,601 |
|
Timothy Benston
(program director from Brooklyn, NY) |
|
Nathalie Henderson
(housewife from Baton Rouge, LA) |
Yesterday, we forgot to
mention that Brad left with $18,400. Will Lauren leave
with more? Let's find out.
Lauren starts her game
with $200 Sports Records, finding the Daily Double early
under $600 Mary, Queen of Scots: Playmate of the Month.
She bets the max of $1000 on this: birth date: Dec. 8,
1542. Birthplace: Linlithgow Palace, built by this royal
house. "What is Stewart?" Got it for $1200.
Lauren holds onto her
lead with $6000 against Timothy's $4400. Nathalie, with
$3600, gets to go first in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Writers on
Film, where Lauren finds the first Daily Double under
$1200. She wagers $3000 on this: 1990's "Frankenstein
Unbound" had Michael Hutchence as this poet. "Who is
Percy Shelley?" Right for $9800!
Nathalie
finds the second under $2000 Historical Paintings. She
bets five large on this: Lucas Cranach the Elder was a
close friend of this clergyman, whom he painted in the
1533 portrait seen here. "Who is Martin Luther?" Correct
for the tie with $15,400 against Lauren. That's where
she'll end regulation, as Lauren has $16,200 against
Timothy's $11,200. A big payday in the making.
Final Jeopardy! in
"Americana": In June 2005, amid some controversy, a
statue of Elizabeth Montgomery was unveiled in this
city. Correct question: what is Salem, MA?
Nathalie remembers that
Elizabeth Montgomery was simply "bewitching", putting
two and two together and coming up with $30,400. Lauren
leaves with $17,601.

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire? by Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check local listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
Yesterday, Jason Vernier
(San Diego, CA) began his climb up the Millionaire
ladder, reaching the $8,000 level. With just the 50:50
remaining, how much more will he win?
This is Jason's first trip to New York City, and he was
a bit nervous for the subway trip before the show. And
he has a 6-year-old daughter who called him to ask if he
won the million yet. We'll see if he'll get there soon
enough, as the game continues. He gets through to
$16,000, then faces this...
[$25,000]
Potentially used to make nuclear weapons, processed
uranium ore produces a powder known by what nickname?
A: Yellowcake
B: Meringue
C: Tart
D: Sugarsnap
Jason is 90% sure that it's A. After some consideration,
as well as a brief chat as to who "they" are, he goes
with A... and he has $25,000! With Switch the Question
now available to him, and the 50:50 still there, he goes
on to the upper tier...
[$50,000]
Because it has only a 345-foot difference between its
highest and lowest points, what is the flattest state in
the country?
A: Mississippi
B: Rhode Island
C: New Jersey
D: Florida
After considering his options, Jason decides to switch
it out. After seeing that it was D, he now sees this...
[$50,000] (Q)
Though Tom Cruise's camp said it means "princess" in
Hebrew, his daughter's name "Suri" also means what in
Japanese?
A: Klutz
B: Pickpocket
C: Busybody
D: Slob
Jason did live in Japan for a bit, but he doesn't know
too much Japanese. He uses the 50:50, which leaves A and
B. He goes with A... but it's B! Well, it was a free
guess, so he leaves with $25,000!
In the hot seat now is Jim Daubner (Rochelle Park, NJ).
He says he has a little bit of an obsession with
tattoos. In fact, when he graduated, he got his first
one from his mother! And now, he has 7, and he hopes for
an 8th, with a dollar sign, if he wins. That would be
interesting to see. With that, Jim starts by knowing
that grunting, hooting, and chest-thumping are common
methods of communication for gorillas (I think some
would say that applies to NASCAR fans as well). He
sweeps the lower tier, then soon gets to this one...
[$4,000]
When the year "2006" is written in Roman numerals, what
letter is not used?
A: V
B: D
C: I
D: M
Jim decides to poll the audience, and 92% says B. He
trusts them... and they're right! (2006 in Roman
numerals is, of course, MMVI.) A couple more questions
later, and this pops up...
[$25,000]
The National Onion Association recommends that you do
what to onions before cutting them so you won't cry as
much?
A: Store them in sunlight
B: Chill them
C: Store them in brown bags
D: Soak them
The 50:50 leaves B and C. Jim had an answer in mind, but
it's gone now. So, he calls a friend's girlfriend,
Trish, but she doesn't give an answer in time. Jim then
pulls out his lucky coin, given to him by his
grandfather, before going for it. He says B... and he
has $25,000!
And there's the horn. Jim will return tomorrow, to face
the upper tier. |
