Cash Cab by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time: 5p ET/4p & 5:30p/4:30 CT on Discovery
Host: Ben Bailey
First up, Jennifer, Amanda, Marc & Grady head to 55th between Park & Madison for some Swedish meatballs. They sweep the $25 tier and the $50 tier. They need a mobile shoutout on this: in 1987, United Airlines agreed to pay $500,000 to play what what revered Gershwin tune as its jingle? They go with "Rhapsody in Blue"... Right for $600! They need a street shoutout on this: recently razed to build a school, what iconic LA hotel was the site of the RFK assassination? They go with the Ambassador hotel... They win $900! But will they take the bonus? Yep. What is MRI an abbreviation for? Magnetic resonance imaging... is worth $1800!

Next, to Ninth & 50th to the Amish market. Our unnamed players strike out on a street shoutout.

Final destination: Third & A. Final passengers: George & Jaime. They sweep the $25 tier. Jaime needs to call out Hillary on this: in mystery novels, what term refers to a fishy clue meant to trick the reader into drawing a wrong conclusion. They miss out on red herring for strike one. They need a street shoutout on this: after fleeing the country to avoid tax-evasion charges, what billionaire did President Clinton pardon in 2001? We got nothing. George Soros? Strike two! It's Marc Rich. An enthusiastic vision in green, what is the mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies? They blank out on the Philly Fanatic. That's three strikes and sure enough, they're out.

We've got a celebrity edition of the Cash Cab in the nightcap. First up, from Spider-Man 3, Thomas Haden Church plays for the Red Cross as he rides to the W Hotel. He wins $350 and risks it on a video bonus: with open arms that reflect the warmth of the locals, "Christ the Redeemer" is located high above what South American metropolis? "Rio de Janeiro." Thomas takes $700, and Discovery will pitch in another $700 for $1400 total.

Next, two New York Rangers Jed Ortmeyer & Ryan Hollweg head to Madison Square Garden, playing for the Garden of Dreams. They risk $450 on this Video Bonus: what is BMX an abbreviation for? They go with bicycle motocross... That's $900 now, and another $900 from the network for $1800.

Finally, Harry Smith from the Early Show playing for the Harlem School of the Arts heads to 35th & Fifth. He risks $1000 on a Video Bonus: originally called McCoopteweep, it ares its name with a summit south of Jerusalem. What is this national treasure of the American Southwest? Harry... blanks on Zion. But he's still going to donate $1000 out of his pocket. And Discovery will still match it.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Air time:  Check local listings or millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira
Robert Martin (Morris Plains, NJ) starts this Friday episode with $16,000 and 1 lifeline available. Apparently, the last time he was at Disney World, he made a certain wish while throwing 3 coins in the fountain behind Cinderella's castle. That wish? To get the call to be on this show! And he got it 2 weeks later! Awesome! And so far, he's doing well, as the game continues...

[$25,000]
Of the nine Nobel Laureates honored with Nobel Prizes in 2006, eight were people and one was a what?
A: Church
B: Bank
C: University
D: Hospital

Having no clue, Robert calls an old colleague from a former job, Heather, but she doesn't know, either. So, he decides not to risk the $16,000 that he has, and walks with it. It's B.

Next in the hot seat is Barbara Dupree (Martin, LA), a retired teacher. She was nervous backstage, but she says she's calming down now. We'll see about that soon enough, as Barbara starts by knowing that the Lord is mentioned twice in the children's rhyme that starts with "Now I lay me down to sleep" (it would seem silly to mention Ted Koppel in such a rhyme). She does make it through the first 5 questions, and after some time, she faces this...

[$8,000]
Baking soda is made of a bicarbonate compound of what chemical element?
A: Calcium
B: Sodium
C: Magnesium
D: Zinc

Barbara says she heard about baking soda being referred to as "sodium bicarbonate", but she decides to ask the audience. 91% say B. She goes with that... and it's B!

[$16,000]
Which of these famous paintings has no people depicted in it?
A: Picasso's "Guernica"
B: Hopper's "Chop Suey"
C: Van Gogh's "The Starry Night"
D: Homer's "The Gulf Stream"

Barbara calls her cousin, Julie, and she says C, but she's only 20% sure. (I'd have thought 25% would be the minimum, since there's only 4 choices, but okay...) Barbara then decides to use the 50:50, to see if C stays there. It does, along with B. She takes the risk and goes with C... and it's 100% right!

[$25,000]
What state's capital is named after a Revolutionary War general who died attempting to capture Quebec?
A: Alabama
B: Kentucky
C: Pennsylvania
D: Delaware

Barbara won't take the risk this time; she takes the $16,000. She was thinking D, but that would have been wrong; it's A.

Getting the next shot is Brian Kaminski (Trafford, PA), a sports writer. He says his odds of winning the million are about 3-2. Sounds confident, doesn't he? Well, Brian does start by knowing that the expression "You snooze, you lose" stresses the importance of staying alert. And he does sweep the lower tier, with time running out for the day as he gets to $2,000. I guess we'll see if Brian's self-proclaimed odds hold up on Monday.
