Balderdash by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 5pm ET/4pm CT on PAX
Host: Elayne Boosler |
|
|
Players: Sabina Bologna (virtual academy
teacher from San Pedro, CA) vs. Nancy Peterson (professional
clarinetist orig. from Illinois) |
|
Panel:
Carlos Alazraqui ("Reno 911!") and comics Cory Kahaney & Andy
Kindler |
What happens when Elayne and
company dance their way into the fourth round? John calls them the
Balderettes, of course! Sabina leads it, 2300-1478, going into
this judgment in Fabulous Fairs. We're going to the Ohio State
Fair (yay, Ohio), where we find paintings made by barnyard animals
(Carlos), the Baby Taft lookalike contest (Cory), or butter
sculptures (Andy). Correct: Andy. To prove it, we see a butter
John Glenn. Both go with Carlos, but Sabina wins it, 1150-632.
Sabina finds some time to forgive
Carlos before going to the Balderdash Barrage. Up for grabs
tonight: a home stereo (under nine letters) or a trip to New
Orleans (under one). They stretch, scream, and grunt their way...
but they only get eight. That only leaves the two Aces. Sabina
goes with the first... should've gone with the second. But a
stereo's not bad.. |

Champions:
Avery (Lori, Stephanie, Brandy, Shannon & Jay); $585 |
|
Challengers: Scharfman (Stephanie, Lola, Tina,
Jay & Mike) |
The Averys already proved that they can play the game, but can they parlay
that into the big money? First up: when you're on the road and you look at the
car next to you, what is the driver usually doing (6)? Talking on the cell phone
is number one for Stephanie S. Also on the survey: singing and eating. Averys
will try with smoking. Not there! Scharfmans get the 50. Other answers: looking
ahead, picking his nose, looking at you.
Round 2: someone who has to work Christmas Eve (5). Lola goes for the obvious
answer: Santa. It's number one. Also working Christmas Eve are police
officers and firefighters, but the Averys snipe 53 from "doctor". Other answer:
nurse.
Double round: which school subject do you think is most useful in real life
(5)? Brandy fires with math for the number one. English, history, reading, and
sciences round out the survey, giving the Averys a 235-50 advantage heading
to...
The triple round: something people let pile up (4). Dirty clothes are number
one for Jay S., as his family also comes up with mail, bills... and excuses?
Well, maybe not excuses. That's strike three. Averys need this to win. They go
with dishes... Up there! Averys win it, 448-50.
Lori sits out Fast Money as Stephanie and Jay take their turn.
1) Something that's considered a lucky charm.
2) Something a dog does to tell you how he feels.
3) Something you might find in your kid's lunchbox.
4) Something seen at bullfights.
5) An hour most people are in bed by.
It's looking good as Shannon gets 147, including three number ones (sandwich,
bull, and 10pm). Jay gets another one (barks) for the big money, giving them
$20,585 for two days' work. Good show!

Champion:
Bud Humphrey (editor from Park Ridge, IL); $37,800; two days |
|
Challengers:
Scott Johnson (radio announcer from Lexington, KY) and Rosann
O'Reilly (elementary school teacher orig. from The Bronx, NY) |
The last win belonged to his wife, who suggested that he learn something
about rulers, the subject of the last Final Jeopardy!. Now let's get a win for
ourselves, as Bud starts with $200 H.H. Going into the first TV time out,
something you don't see every day... all three players deadlocked at $2000.
Last category in play is Anatomy & Medicine with less than a minute to go.
The Daily Double under $800 goes to Rosann, as she wagers $1000 on the foot
bones corresponding to the carpals and metacarpals in the hand. "What are the
tarsals and the metatarsals?" That's good for $3600, where she ends the round,
in second place. Leading the pack is Bud, who was commanding the board early on
and now had $6200. Scott dips down to $1200 and will start Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 "Road" Show. Rosann finds the first Daily Double under $1600
From the Latin For... Now in the lead at $6400, she wagers $2000 on "Around" and
the natural acoustics of the room. "What is the ambience?" That's right for
$8400. From there, Bud and Rosann fight for the lead... but it's Scott with the
second Daily Double on $2000 Brit Lit. He goes $3000 for the author of "The
Human Factor" and "Our Man in Havana". "Who is Graham Greene? That's good to tie
Bud's $9400 against Rosann's $12,400 as we round out the game with...
Final Jeopardy! in "Brands": this brand's airtight seal, introduced
in 1946, was patterned after the inverted rim of a paint can. Correct
response: "What is Tupperware?"
Scott's right... Bud's right... Rosann's right... but wagers too little. Bud
keeps finding ways to pull victory out of the jaws of defeat, as he returns
tomorrow with $56,599.

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN

market)
Host: Bob Barker |

The first one on stage is the first
one in the Showcase. Aaron Shany is the proud owner of a
five-piece drum set with cymbals. But believe me, he's really in
it for the free Credit Card they're about to hand him. He can use
that card to purchase a carpet steamer, a chair and ottoman, a
coffee/tea service, an elliptical trainer, and some cookware. He
starts with a credit limit of $2000. Now as of late there's always
been one prize that would usually set a player over the limit with
one shot... and wouldn't you know it, that's the first prize that
Aaron picks. The chair and ottoman went for $2395.
His opponent in the Showcase would be
Kelsey Watts. The Chapman University student came on down to a
bookcase (actually, she came on down before the bookcase, but
that's what she won), and came on up to a Ford Focus as she shoots
for the Dice Game. She was one number off in her pricing, so no
car for her.
But maybe one in the Showcase.
First up, a dining room with dinnerware and German beer steins,
and what better to go with that than a trip to Germany? Aaron
passes it to Kelsey, who bids $10,000 even. For Aaron, we have
prizes that are filling - Krispy Kremes, a computer, and a Buick
LeSabre! Aaron bids $18,342 on his pack. Kelsey's only $5000 off,
while Aaron's off by $10,000, so Kelsey wins the day with $15,829
in prizes.
But today's big winner would be
Tawnda Davis. She came on down in round 2, and then won a sofa in
round 3, parlaying that into a Money Game win of a Pontiac Vibe
and $210 to spend on gas presumably. She leaves 33 with $18,704 in
cash and prizes.
Other winners:
Jared Bradshaw: wine refrigerator; bedroom group with sleep set
and gumball machine winning Secret X
Norah Cannine: patio heater; $4000 playing It's In the Bag
Darlene Beard: sunglasses |

Players: Tara (student from Valencia, CA) vs.
Josh (writer from Houston) |
|
Panel:
Katie (Chicago), Kevin (LA), and Dena (Diamond Bar, CA) |
Josh opened up by going three-for-three in the Who Knew It round, and ends it
in the lead, $1800-$900 going into the Wager of Death: John Steinbeck wrote a
famous novel called "Of Mice and" what? Correct: Men.
Both players go with Kevin for the final cut. He says... Men. Right answer is
a good bet. Tara goes wrong, losing all but $100. Josh also goes wrong,
losing... nothing, as he wins it with $1800... unless he decides to risk it for
a chance to play for $100,000. "I've got student loans to pay off. I'm going to
quit while I'm ahead." Good call, Josh.

Jackie Penn, a single mom from Brooklyn, hopes to keep a promise to her son
to go to Disney World. So far, she has $4000 and her PAF... who gets the call on
this question: What type of animal is an alewife? Quoth Dolores: "I'd go with
bird." She does... and Dolores was wrong. It was a fish, but $1000 can buy a
nice jaunt to the Magic Kingdom.
Next up, David Fairhurst, also from Brooklyn. The out-of-work-actor scores
his $1000, then $2000, then $4000... Then he needs the audience at $8000: Which
of these Biblical events is not depicted in the 2004 movie "The Passion of the
Christ"? Three-quarters of NYC go with the birth of Christ, while around half of
the AOLers agree. David goes for it... and scores the $8000. He goes to $16,000
leaving him with the $25,000 milestone: Bartleby.com, a reference Web site, is
named for an enigmatic character created by what famous author? a) Edgar Allan
Poe b) Washington Irving c) Herman Melville d) Nathaniel Hawthorne. He's ear to
ear, as he makes C his final answer for the secured $25,000!
For $50,000: In what Marilyn Monroe movie is her character referred to in the
credits simply as "The Girl"? a) Gentlemen Prefer Blondes b) The Seven Year Itch
c) All About Eve d) How to Marry a Millionaire. Time to call the PAF, another
David. "The Seven Year Itch," he says without hearing the choices. He's VERY
sure. David goes with it... and he's got $50,000.
For $100,000: In 1863, what became the last state east of the Mississippi
River to achieve statehood? a) Michigan b) Wisconsin c) Florida d) West
Virginia. David has no idea, and thinks that the 50/50 won't help, so he
switches. Correct answer... his initial inkling of D. That always hurts. New
question: Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy!" fame also hosted all of the following
lesser-known game shows except what? a) The $128,000 Question b) Pitfall c)
Gambit d) The Wizard of Odds. All together now, gang... GAMBIT! He plays out the
question with the 50/50, which leaves 128K? and ... GAMBIT! He could guess with
a 50/50 chance at $100,000... but he won't. He walks with $50,000... Correct
answer... well, you know. New player tomorrow.
