Blind Auditions Part 2
May 3

Last week, we were introduced to "The Voice", a competition only somewhat like no other. America embraced it, and now the audition process continues for the one person who will win a $100,000 recording contract and the title of... the Voice.

As a reminder, here are the coaches' picks from last week...

ADAM: Jeff Jenkins, Rebecca Loebe, Javier Colon
CEE-LO: Vicci Martinez, Kelsey Rey, Tje Austin
CHRISTINA: Tarralyn Ramsey, Frenchie Davis, Beverly McClellan
BLAKE: Elenowen, Xenia, Patrick Thomas

That leaves 20 spots remaining. When a coach wants to work with a contestant, they'll hit their button. If one coach does so, then coach meets contestant. If multiple coaches turn around, then it's up to the player to choose who he or she will fit. If no coach turns around, it's thanks-for-playing-parting-gifts time.

First up, background singer Cherie Oakley (29, Nashville), who's written and toured with country's elite. Now she thinks that it's time for her moment. She goes with Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & Lead". Blake is actually engaged to Miranda... Will that factor into his decision? ... Forget that, Christina pulls her trigger... and Blake never gets a chance. Choice is already made for her. Why didn't Blake hit it? He wanted her to "beat" Miranda... and she never did. So Cherie gets CHRISTINA.

Devon Barley (19, Mattapoisett, MA) is a med student whose doctor parents are apprehensive about his pop-star ambitions. He hopes this works out with Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours"... which is exactly what Cee-Lo says! And... almost on cue, Adam does likewise. He ends up with... ADAM. Just what the doctor ordered.

Joshua Scott Hand (29, West Palm Beach, FL) uses humor to diffuse his stress. Sorry, but "Last Comic Standing" is gone. Let's see how you sound with "Paparazzi" from Lady Gaga... stripped. ... and no one is buying. So Josh Hand... talk to the hand.

Next up comes Raquel Castro (16, Long Island, NY), who is the youngest in the competition. "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis is her choice... Blake and Adam are really talking about her... and while they hash it out, Christina takes a chance, a case of hero worship.

Next up, we meet Emily Valentine (23, Hollywood, CA)'s voice. She sings "Sober" by Pink. By voice alone, I wouldn't hit the button... Blake would, though. And so would Cee-Lo! Who will Emily pick? She goes with... CEE-LO! Also joining Team Cee-Lo: Niki Lawson. Sara Oromchi gets to work with Blake.

Tim Mahoney (39, Minneapolis) has had a lot of brushes with instant fame, but none of them seem to have petered out for him. He feels like this is his last shot. He serves up "Bring It On Home to Me" by Sam Cooke... and ADAM is fired up almost instantly. "It's gonna be weird for a moment... I thought you were a chick. I need a woman for my team... but sadly, you have a penis."

Julia Eason (18, Palos Verdes, CA) is a soccer player. Will she bend "Mercy" like Duffy and hit the back of the net? She does a lot of bending... GOOOOOOOOOOOL! Cee-Lo... and Christina. A two-fer, but who will she end up with? She picks... CHRISTINA!

Angela Wolff (25, Metter, GA) has her eyes set on Blake Shelton. She follows him on the Twitter, and she'll follow him with "The House That Built Me" by... yep, Miranda Lambert. Don't fangirl out, Angela. Just do the dern thang. .... NOBODY! So... Game rule #1... don't sing Miranda Lambert.

Next up... the Fifth Doctor. No, it's Tyler Robinson (20, Folsom, CA), who grew up a gay Mormon. His biggest fan... his mom. His father... isn't that supportive of his music. And if he didn't know that he was gay before this show, then he does now. He goes with Train's "Hey, Soul Sister". Blake's got a shot at it.... and he's all his. Blake thinks he's getting Thin Drew Carey.

We're running out of spaces... will one go to ... the Dude? Nakia (36, Austin, TX) will take a chance at Cee-Lo with "Forget You". He's doing this for his partner Robert, who's been his rock for the last nine years. But will the Dude abide? .... Yep. Cee-Lo hits it... But so does Blake. Now the question... why should he pick one coach over the other? "Because (Cee-Lo) dresses like a peacock." You're watching NBC... and CEE-LO gets the nod. Also joining Team Blake: preacher's daughter Serabee. Adam counters with Casey Desmond. Justin Grennan gets to join Christina's Team.

Dia Frampton (23, St. George, UT) is a children's author. With three more blind auditions remaining, will she find her happy ending with Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly"? Well that was quick, Blake. He and his (^_^)-eating grin are in for this artist... but Cee-Lo says NOT SO FAST, BUDDY. In the end, Dia goes with BLAKE!

And then there were two... Curtis Grimes had a college scholarship to play baseball, but gave it up for a girl. He'll try to go yard with a song from Blake... "Hillbilly Bone". Blake lets him stew for a bit... and CEE-LO goes for it! Sorry, Blake, you took too long.

Last audition up... and it belongs to Tori & Taylor Thompson (17 & 19, Santa Maria, CA). They are pig farmers... but if they look familiar, they were on the ill-fated Idol spinoff "American Juniors". They are competing TOGETHER this time out with "Stuck Like Glue" by Sugarland. They still sound like they're prepubescent... CEE-LO hits... and he gets. TEAM CEE-LO is complete!

... and so are the blind auditions. But three teams are still left in need of singers. It's then that Carson announces... that some acts will get a SECOND CHANCE! Eight predetermined artists will get that second shot, singing new songs, and coming in random order. And because he has a full boat, Cee-Lo gets to watch.

First up, Lily Elise (20, San Anselmo, CA) sings "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys. And CHRISTINA makes a move, filling out her roster of 8.

Next up, Sonia Rao gets her second shot at greatness with "Chasing Pavements" by Adele. ... and no. A move that Adam and Blake regret quickly.

Jared Blake ALMOST made them good girls go bad... He'll try again with "Not Ready to Make Nice" by Dixie Chicks. BLAKE HITS IT!

And that leaves Adam to pick two from the FIVE remaining. First up... Casey Weston (18, Naples, FL) with "Stupid Boy" by Keith Urban. It's a YES for Adam...

Then back to Angela Wolff... she'll be "Rolling in the Deep". And ADAM HAS EIGHT!

So to recap, the teams are...

ADAM: Jeff Jenkins, Rebecca Loebe, Javier Colon, Devon Barley, Tim Mahoney, Casey Desmond, Casey Weston, Angela Wolff
CEE-LO: Vicci Martinez, Kelsey Rey, Tje Austin, Emily Valentine, Niki Lawson, Nakia, Curtis Grimes, Tori & Taylor Thompson
CHRISTINA: Tarralyn Ramsey, Frenchie Davis, Beverly McClellan, Cherie Oakley, Raquel Castro, Julia Eason, Justin Grennan, Lily Elise
BLAKE: Elenowen, Xenia, Patrick Thomas, Sara Oromchi, Tyler Robinson, Serabee, Dia Frampton, Jared Blake

The coaches have made their choices. Now they're going to have to live with them as the competition moves to the Battle Rounds, at the end of which we'll have FOUR artists a team. Who will move one step closer to being the Voice... and who will have their voice silenced? Stay tuned...
